I don't hate you, you must have got a really good deal on that mustang to pass up some of the cars on here for sale right now.

Well stock for stock it's hard for me to say. Back in 99 my freind had a new Mustang v6 and we had about the same done mods wise, I was slightly quicker on the start but he gained on me, but we ended up running to 100 pretty much side by side.

speed wise, they are about the same, the celi looks better both inside and out, and more reliable if you get a good one.

k, thanks for the replies! i did get a real good deal on the stang.. its a 1999 v6 5 speed 69k mi for 4300$, so i couldn't pass it up. im in new york and the closest celi's i found were in PA, i drove to look at 2 of them, one was leaking oil like crazy, and the other deal kinda fell through when i saw the mustang.(my dad bought the stang before we closed the deal on the celica) but i loved how both of them drove. if they were the same price, and same mileage, id go for the celica, because of reliability, and rarity, and practicality. thanks, erich

Hey guy, I live in Rochester also. My cousin has a 2001 Mustang V6 with some mods. My Celica is completely stock. We are close in the 1/4 mile. I win on the rare occasion, he wins most, but not by much. The difference shows on back roads such as Lake Road out near Webster Park or Kings Highway near Durand Park. If I let him start ahead, it doesn't take me long to pass him. If I lead off, it's all over. He looses sight of my tail lights after the first 1/2 mile. The Mustang can't handle the curves as well as the Celica. The REAL difference is not in acceleration, it's in handling. Best of luck with the Mustang.

not sure what you meant by "are the person i saw in a video where you hit your brothers car or he hit you..or something like that." and who are you talking to? id like to give a try against that celica in rochester. you'll know its me. its an electric green 99' and key marks down the side. can't stand people that are jealous. right now the stang is in the shop. something is wrong with the clutch or seomthing. i think the guy i bought it from beat on it real bad. i know he did a motor swap. i think he should've replaced the clutch also. whereabout are you located in rochester? you can PM me if ya want.
off topic: how hard is it to do a tranny swap? or clutch swap yourself?

it's unfortunate you couldn't have gotten a celi, I'd sooner take one over a mustang anyday, especially a v6... but that's just me.

And I'm completely sure a 108hp ST Celica can beat a 190hp V6 stang.

STFU. Please.

Are you guys f**king serious? I tried to stay out of this thread because it looked like it was asking to be shut down but my god...
My Mom owns a '99 V6 Auto Mustang. That thing is easily the slowest car I have ever driven. My brother drives it to my house for maintenance once a month and we race often. That car couldn't begin to hang with me when I was stock. Now? Forget it - Im not even gonna set myself up to be flamed. That car may have 190Hp (never bothered to look it up) but it drives slow as hell. Also I fix that car constantly as it is consantly having stupid minor problems and now my Mom called me the other day and said she thinks the tranny is going at 90K. And she drives it like a grandma (which I guess she is). POS.
End of story - end of rant
geez.

Oh just so it's not all bad - that car handles better than any other domestic that I have driven. Seems really well balanced. No where near the Celica but still handles good.

okay thanks everyone.. for your opinions...and the smack. i know the stang isn't as reliable as the celica, but hey, im 18, i've loved the stangs since i was born, and i just couldn't afford a low mileage celica. it may have been a decision that will come back to bite me in the ass but w/e.. i probably will get a celica gt if i can't get a v8 stang next. celica will be the winter car. (FWD.) anyway. we can end this article now.

No smack intended to your car bro. Sorry if I came accross that way. Just sharing my opinion based on fact of my moms car - perhaps she got a lemon?
To you who think they can't beat a v6 mustang: Maybe you should learn how to drive your car better [supersprint not included - you got a swapped car and can undoubtedly drive it].

well i must have the slowest celica gt ever built because i have a budy with a 2000 mustang v6 and i get him off the line but as soon as i hit third i just watch him drive past me so unless your only racing to like 50 my celica must have just been sold to me slower (thats sarcasm)

I Agree that the v6 mustang is not fast and not very well built. Its bulky, heavy, and whiney(motor/tranny wise). Maybe its just the ones ive driven but you need to sink s**t loads of money into that car to make it a monster.

1999 Ford Mustang Convertible V6 8.6 16.50

1994 Toyota Celica GT Coupe 8.5 16.40

keep in mind, the first stat is for the convertible model, so the coupe could easily do 0-60 .2 sec faster or so.

http://www.ssmoparmuscle.com/speedcomp.htm

also, keep in mind, these results are subjective. Results may differ from other sites.

from these stats, it seems to be a toss up. However, the st statistically should not win. So, if you're an st and your winning, it's because the mustang is either an auto or a terrible driver. I think it would be hard for me to **** up a race with an st if I'm in a 99-04 stang. even if it's a v6.

and Migga, turn off the caps, you know that's ****ing annoying.

well, consumerguide.com says that 1994-2004 mustang V6's had 145-190 hp... it doesn't say which ones had 145 and which had 190, but if I were to guess, I'd say that they had 145 before they were given a bit of a facelift (2000?) and 190 after. and the car weighs like 600 punds more (even more for a convertible)

So I think it's fair to say a GT could beat a pre-facelift mustang V6 fairly easily. as for ST... maybe not...

YES A 5-speed ST CAN beat a v6 mustang!!

yes, I never ruled it out. especially if the celi was manual and the stang was auto.

The only reason i'd ever buy a V8 stang is : the noise it makes. It purrs, you don't find that on most cars, at all. my buddies camaro sounds raspy & loud, but every decent modified GT or Cobra mustang i've heard sounded great.

It's a shame the majority of the owners drive with their balls instead of their brains.

this is one of the stupidest threads of all time. I wish there was a 0-60 stat website that ruled out every single variable in a drag race and could adequately state whether or not a certain car could out run another. We do this all the time. We never come to a solid conclusion and we never benefit from the conversation unless the two cars in question are obviously out matched (f1 vs celica gt). In which case it's a pointless discussion anyway.

my celica could beat an F1... tongue.gif

that's kinda like how my friend tried to race a ferrari with his 1980's chevy silverado... yeah... from what he says, the ferrari kinda let him get ahead, then a couple seconds later they flew past him at somewhere around 120... wink.gif

What's pointless is not factoring in the fact that some people don't know how to drive their car and others do. That can have a big factor on the outcome. BTW - Raced a modded '98 Mustang GT Auto with brand new engine purring like mad just to prove the point and spanked his monkey a$$. He's willing to come on here and back me up (friend of mine) as well as 2 members from MR2oc where there to witness and can back me up too.
Learn how to drive your Celica people. Intelligently modded our cars are not that slow. At the track with their $hitty FF traction - now that's another story.
So you need proof - I got it.
