the intercooler was cheap inexpensive. bar and plate from ebay, under 250. its 24x12x3. Ive already driven with it with its been installed for over a couple months, really noticed a gain.
5k loan :x ill post pics of the parts i ordered when they come in smile.gif. i know your not bagging, its not easy or cheap getting over the 300whp hurtle.

haha traction ftl. ill address that after i feel what driving it is like. i was thinking of wider tires and checking where they WOULD hit. then make stops on the steering unit so my tires wouldnt hit but it would take a out a few feet maybe from pulling a U turn. you know? i dont make u turns often and im use to a trucks turning radius, ill just have to drive the celica like a truck... iunno lol.

i have the turbo mounted on the L bracket like that so i can measure the radius bend im gunna need to make the adapter. cool stuff.

lookin good, didnt catch that u were doing the oil cooler. very nice setup. did you look into the disc for the feed/return lines that only opens once oil has reached operating temps? just curious.

yeah i saw that. well thing is have been running oil cooler before this one. just it was less efficient. i had no problems getting the car to operating temps at all with it and the ct26. im thinking the added efficiency will kinda cancel out on the holset since its only oil cooled and you how hot turbos get lol. so thats something i can always add on if theres a problem but i dont think there will be any.

check out what i finally got in today. all thats left to purchase really is. everything else is either in the mail or i have hanging around here.

ive done alot of research on the two. at first i wanted nemesis. but after doing looking around. its really not up to me which one i get, its really up to the tuner. and there are ALOT more tuners for aem. even if they aren't specialized in the 3sgte they know how an internal combustion engine works. so really its for tuneability. aem supplies you with new version firmware u can download free at their site, where whatever version of nemesis you buy your basically stuck with it. aem has a forum where if u can figure something out you can get help. also with aem eventually i plan to play with it myself. and the software they supply ive been playing with at work and it pretty cool i like it.
they a both the same price with the same options pretty much. aem is like 200 more for the options i would have to pay extra to get with the nemesis. so they are really close in price.

they aren't exposed tongue.gif i made a plexi glass window to fill the hole and its siliconed/some crazy glued in. we can shoot the timing light easy on the cam gears on the dyno or w/e iunno i was bored. biggrin.gif

as for headwork, its basiclly ATS Eagle springs, with hks 264 exhaust, 272 intake cams.
if my stock shims are fine for lash after i install the shims and buckets ill keep em. but if they need to be reshimmed ill think about going shimless, it would be nice but well see if i have the cash :x lol i still need to get this thing tuned later tongue.gif

well, beeing working on the Wastegate and exhaust setup, got it mocked with rusty old pipe from my dads old exhaust lol. now i need to purchase some nice piping to make the final fit.

Polished up the RMR, holset comp side, and apexi bov with some jewelers polish i picked up at a world of wheels car show. they look pretty shinny now smile.gif

Started pinning the wiring harness and painted the hard plastic covers on the wires.

This week should be pretty productive im hoping. time is catching up with me now :x

got the fuel line all set. but as a whole im still far from done id like to say i was closer but you forget about all the small things when i generalize and say its close lol.
like re wiring the harness and re-pinning it. or setting up vacuum lines, water lines attaching crap to the firewall. slower but surely, something about a turtle winning a race.

sure thing ill post pics when i get home. i was suckered into buying some metal polish at a car show, this guy polished the dome on the underside of a soda can and it looked like a mirror so needless to say i was amazed and ended up buying some. so i went on a polishing excursion lol. it came with a sealer polish also that when he put water on the dome it didn't want to stick at all, says the sealer um... seals it for up to a year and thats against most chemicals, water even anti freeze. but we'll see if it can take the temps of the engine bay. well see what happens.

What ive been up to
IPB Image
IPB Image
IPB Image
IPB Image
downpipe is almost complete still waiting on the top and bottom vband flanges to welt to it.
thats why it was ghetto held up in the pics.
added some ebay bolt kit for the valve cover and other stuff.
got a 4" silicone coupler for the filter
painted the engine bay and started to tuck things like the air bag controller box and random brackets or w/e
not going crazy with it just trying to clean it up some.
oh and that bracket going to the turbo from the head will have another bracket along side it going to the ring along the exhaust side coming from the other ear on the head.
so it will be kinda symmetrical lol

nice work john!
good idea for the turbo stay, like dan said. i like it!
is the DP stainless? or are you planning on having it coated or somthing?

yeah i saw a similar bracket on mr2oc. I wanna support that thing any way i can.
we are also bracket that goes from the block to the underside of the turbo.
oh and the DP is stainless along with the v-band hardware, ceramic coated would be nice biggrin.gif know any one local?

You're going to run and EMS and keep the dist?
Out of curiosity, why?

i havent really looked into what i would need to run coil over plug setup.
i realize the stock ignition isnt the best setup, but im hoping it will perform satisfactory.
if not id have no choice it seems.

iunno why the 2.5" IC piping, but ok
if you run race gas for a pull
i think you will hit >500 @~24psi, granted the pistons/rods are a-ok

i'm guessing that turbo is like the GT35.
and since all the evos and stis seem to be ~500 w/ their gt35's, figure u'll be there too...of course unless those others are stroked, which i doubt the scoobies were, but i could see the dsm doin is easily.

as for my guess.
415 @18psi tongue.gif
(assuming you tune for 18psi w/ pump)

Go Cams!!!

I did the 2.5" from the turbo to the intercooler. I kept the pipe coming out if the turbo the same diameter as the turbo outlet so id have less pressure drop, at least thats the plan. the i did 3" from the outlet to the TB, kept the piping the same size as the TB inlet so theres less turbulence. again at least thats the plan biggrin.gif
oh, and for the race gas thing that would be pretty intense lol.
yeah i want to do 18-20 psi on pump if allowed.

Are you running a GT trans with your 3s swap?

Like everyone else, I've been following this thread and would love to see it work without a hitch but with all that extra power..I'm somewhat skeptical of you ever being able to top this motor out, that is putting all that power on the 2 front wheels. Let alone what the handling will be like.I wish you the best tho and I'll be waiting for the results.

As for my guess...355hp..341lbft tq.

Well i'm hoping it it wont be too bad. on slicks i should hook right up. i hope.
i really have no idea what to expect. accept i keep on envisioning me having my foot in it for a good couple seconds before i start to boost lol. I'll be sure to let you guys know how it is. biggrin.gif

oh, yeah its an S54 tranny, for this year atleast.
I heard its a pretty durable tranny from a couple mr2 guys. well see.

Two-step is awesome.
boosting sounds like a jet engine.
didnt get to go to dyno because my cars no registered so i borrowed my grandfathers dealer plates and we road tuned it for a couple hours.
its incredible at only 14 psi. it hits full boost around between 4.5k and 5k, the power is great. Both my efi certified tuner friend and i were shocked at how responsive the turbo is. its no ct26 but we expected worse. traction is going to be a problem, i'm forced to go buy new wider wheels and tires. but we mad a nice map for driving around in very safe full boost conditions. its not optimal for power, but great for knowing nothing is on the edge of breaking. were gunna try to get it to a dyno to really tune it asap once the registry is open.

Im sorry to inform you guys... but ill be the poster child of to much power on dinky axles. Yep just popped my drivers axle... so much for tuning this week. it was bound to happen. now what lol. who makes strong 5sfte axles. maybe these were just old since i did beat them up with both 5sfte setups and the 3sgte. damn.....

i have some vids. you can hear the clunking and me saying to a buddy "i hope thats my axel" and it is.

Hmm i didn't realize axles were that cheap i can get new ones for under $100 bucks. not bad.
i guess i'll go pick some "life time warranty" ones from auto zone.
ill just be accustom to breaking them every week.

This Holset HX-35 is the only turbocharger available with a "Map Width Enhancement" groove. This groove is machined into the inlet of the compressor housing to allow air to be fed to the second set of blades on the compressor wheel. This increases efficiency and overall air flow by more than 10%. All Holset turbochargers come standard with a 360 degree thrust bearing.

It being very easy to come by, (dodge cumins diesel trucks) durable, after market support (rebuild kits, parts)
and pretty inexpensive used.

actually, right now the turbo is off the car along with the manifold and dp, im ceramic coating them and putting them back on. also i bought a large inline muffler because it was just way to loud for street use. once thats done ill try to get it up to DSG dent sport garage in Boston. hes been busy the last couple weekends with rally racing. soon though I cant wait to get it on the rollers. biggrin.gif

Any pictures of your exhaust setup as of now?

I <3 side exit wink.gif

right now i dont. i'm pulling down the exhaust to take out one resonator and replace it with a big muffler. but ill still be rocking the side exhaust. ill take a few pics of everything when im done. Sick of having to shut the car off at stop signs when i see a cop, or throwing it into neutral when i'm driving around and spot a cop lol.

when you made your turbo adapter bracket, where did you get the flange for the manifold side?

I cut it off my old SSAC tubular manifold.

i get the torque steer in higher gears. i think that was just a little of 1st and 2nd lol. 3rd - 5th is were its ges fun because the turbo has more load on it to spool faster. like doing 60mph punch it and it to pass someone on the highway and it wants to pull you into them lol.

once you get it tuned... i think it will get more responsive and pull even harder.

i know what you mean about it wanting to pull you to the next lane. had that happen before..lol.

word, and bump the boost up to were the turbo really shines.
haha Dan thanks buddy rolleyes.gif

Two step is just a lowered rev limiter. but I have it cutting ignition like 400 rpm sooner than its cuts the fuel. so at 4200 rpm it basically misfires because of lack of spark all that fuel is dumped into a very hot manifold and ignites then spools the turbo. Sorta like anti lag but it doesn't retard timing.

I have it so its active only under 15mph for launching at the track or just for fun smile.gif

asap, but before the dyno i need to put my new muffler in place of one of my resonators. the exhaust it just to loud and screams pull me over. so i dont wanna drive the car to Boston with an exhaust like that. this weekend i should get the exhaust done. and any time after that im down for dyno-ing.

unfortunately my friend who was gunna help tune the car, crashed his bike and broke all the bones in his right leg, collar bone, and i think a few ribs.
I was also going to use his lift to do my exhaust but i guess ill just have to use 4 jack stands again to do the exhaust frown.gif

they don't call it the heart breaker dyno for no reason tongue.gif

It's tuned really well now. we stayed at 1 bar though, we think its best to keep it there for now until pistons. then he said just raising the boost 5lbs will bring the turbo into its prime and would easily make 400whp on his dyno. never mind a mustang dyno.
hopefully the 14th we can get to number bragging dyno biggrin.gif

he thinks i might have alittle to much excessive blow by to risk raising the boost.
Im not sure though, no oil vapor is in the blow by, there just alot of crank case pressure. nothing a vacuum pump cant bandage for now though.
so now i might have to add a few piston and rod install pics into the mix.
now its tuned for everything, not just WOT.
