So here's the background story:
I just got my job i've been waiting for about 2 years. I may be shipped overseas for 6 months subbing in for another empolyee (that means I get to go to the UK...again!!).

And here's the question:
I'll be there for roughly 6 months and i'll need to toss my crap in storage, including my car. Now, does anyone know of anything I can do or anything i'll need to do in reference to storing a car for a long period of time in a garage/ storage unit? Does anyone have anything like a horror story or what to look out for? I'm new to this storage unit thing so any help is much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Sweet deal, that actually helps out a lot. The only thing is, I won't have access to it for 6 months b/c i'll be overseas. Has anyone left their car for that long before?

What's "seafoam?"

its an additive/cleaner that you can buy at any auto parts store. Honestly i love the stuff. It does work but you cant use too much (like 3 or 4 bottles within a month). Just add a can to your fuel tank.

Not to scare you... but my friend came back and couldn't start his car after a 2-month vacation.. He popped the hood to see most of the wires in the bay were bitten by rats and stuff...

So I guess you might want to put something in your engine bay to shoo the insects, animals away...

i dun think it's seafoam u need to put in. but some type of fuel stabilizer... and after putting it in i think u should drive it for couple min to get all the un stabilized fuel out of the system... unless seafoam acts as a stabilizer too????

yes, add fuel stabilizer and then drive for about 30-50 min at highway speeds to get it all hot and the stabilizer throughout the system.

What is it's purpose? Why would I not just be able to leave it the way it is?

...And you put it into your gas tank? Would there be anything i'd need to put into my oil/engine?

well, i had my car sitting for an entire year (through harsh winters and hot summer), then we put the battery back in and started up no problem.. then did a complete tune up soon after.

another good idea is to have it sit on jack stands while in storage and don't cover it with a car cover cuz you'll need the airflow or rust might just start forming..

i think carcovers let air in. or @ least mine says it breathable. ur cars rust if theres no air?

It looks like it will be in a storage unit (non-climate controlled) outside. So car jacks are a good idea? If so, then would I jack up the car onto it's jack points underneath the car or like the cars in my neighborhood (B-More) and on cinderblocks? Lol...no seriously

One of my show cars o own has been off road for 4 years & only started every 6 months if that. I always make sure i use loads of WD40 water displacement on most parts of the engine & brakes & leave it with tyre blocks rather than leave the handbrake on.
