I think they do. People have way to much pride... they hate on other gen Celica's... Honda's... etc. They're all good cars. What should really matter is if the owner driving the car is cool, or if he/she is an idiot. |

One- I love my 6gen celica and would never swap it for anything, apart from a Porsche 911 Turbo (993) ocean-jade with black leather int. As if that would happen.
Second- Me personally I like the 5th gens, the others seems to be similar to other types like a copy of other brands. 1st was a reply to the US Mustang. And 2 - 4 look too close to other models. Thirdly- I consider them heritage which we are now apart off. Lastly- The 7th gen is more of a cencept car to me and standard ain't that good. Drop in a good engine and a body kit then I'll take a peek at em. |

Good engine? The 7th gen's have great engines. How can you say that they aren't good? Especially when you compare them to the 7A and 5S... I think the 7th gen's, just like the previous gens, are awesome. |

I have no idea why everyone hates 7th gens here. Is it because there are so many of them or something? They're a perfectly fine car. I thought about getting one myself, just because I wanted a new car.

I didnt like the 7th when it first came out, but it has grown on me, i like the styling of it, and regardless of what people say, they do have pretty good engines.

The only reason i dont like the newer celica's is because they're everywhere, like the Civic.

if toyota makes the engine, i have no problems with it.
i would drive a 7th gen and a 5th gen. the other gens are just too old for me. i like the 6th gen best for the way it looks. then i like the 5th gen because it is roundish like the 6th gen and because of the alltrac!! the 7th gens look ok. the only thing i dont like about their engines is that (the gts anyways) has too little low end torque. i understand that the new celicas are a lot faster than mine and that gives them a plus and while there are a lot of 7th gen celicas, there are still much more civics, integras, and rsx's out there. i like all cars. all cars require a lot of engineering to be made. its the owners that make me mad. people buy cars for the wrong reasons in this day, and too many people are ill informed on what performance parts do for an engine. i originally wanted a 3000gt, but i changed my mind when i learned more about the problems they tend to have. i turned to a 6th gen celica because i wanted something easy to drive and good on gas and they look great and are pretty rare. -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

That shouldn't be a reason for you not to like it. It's everywhere because it's a good car. I agree that it can be rather annoying seeing the same car all over the road, but it's still a good car in terms of its sleak design and performance. |

The 7th is a good car overall, but I don't care for the style. As for the 1st-5th hating us, I know that a lot of 1st-3rd gen owners don't consider 4th+ in the same category because they are RWD while we are FWD.

I couldn't agree more! Obviously, everybody has different reasons for choosing the car they have and here are mine: 1) a GOOD, reliable car 2) a car that was sporty 3) a car that got decent gas mileage - NOT a gas guzzler 4) something affordable - under 15 grand Lastly, I wanted a car that wasn't ubiquitous( how ya like that word?) I've always liked having something that not many people have. Yes, it's true that the good cars are everywhere for a reason - they're good cars! My mom drives a Civic and both of my sisters drive Accords and they're both GREAT cars but I wouldn't trade my Celi for all of them. I certainly wouldn't buy a piece of crap just because it was unique but the trick is to find that car that's reliable but also turns heads. I think we're lucky that we all drive the best kept secret in the auto industry. ![]() |

i dont have a problem with the 7th gens, my friend has one and its not that bad, ill tell you what, if they had an engine with more potential id like them a lot more (3s-gte) but yeah the 2002gts in carbon blue with a cf hood and high wing was gorgeous on celica.net...i forget his user name, im sure you know of him if you frequent there...his sig is taken on top of a building..

I like all of the generations of celica's, my favorite is the 5th gen all trac (would be 6th gen gt4 but i dont think its fair to count it since its not available in north america) then 6th gen.

i really like the first gen celi.... it just looks like so sweet... they only body style celi i'm not feeling is the 4th gen... it just looks to me like something is missing off of it...as for the 7th gen I will be getting one.... the gts has a great engine... that keeps up with the RSX Type S ...... and a few companies make a tubo kit for it, and it has a lot of other aftermarket support...I love my celica an i'm going to have it till the wheels fall off.....

i luv my 6th gen and for the money to buy a 7th gen... i think i'll buy something else wif a lil more money. however... i like the 7th gen engine. it's juss complicated like all~~~~ toyota engines. therefore hard to squeeze out power. but i saw 7th gens jumpin from 160 to 190 hp from a supercharger. i dun think anthing can get any better than that. however. 6TH GEN FO LIFE~~~~~~~~~.

When it comes to earlier generations I'll agree with whoever said 1st, 2nd and 3rd gens consider themselves in a different cat because for their RWD config! They are great cars, and whenever I see enthusiasts we still give one and other props.
The only Celi-owners that have "hated" on my car would have to be the 5th and 7th gens! I'm not sure why, but if ever I try to give "props" to any of them, they're like "Whatever.. your car sucks.." and then they'll try to race.. but I've never had an issues with their cars. Albeit bulky and underpowered (even the Alltrac was ultra heavy that gen) the styling is still great, especially on the GT-S models.. mmm 93 GT-S in black or white or red.. mmmm.. And 7th gen owners!!! 7th gen owners, seem to be a whole new breed of Celi drivers -- many of which are Honda Fan Boy converts, so they carry the same ideals. There's something about the 7th gens that I haven't quite figured out yet, but I know it's there and I don't like it. Maybe it's that made in Taiwan-cheap feel that they have, or maybe it's the fact that they're more popular than Pokemon cards! Maybe it's because it never had a rally presence. Maybe it's lack of class or prestige? I don't know. But there's some strange about it. To be honest, I don't even consider the 7th gen to be a Celica. It's more of the Toyota Civic Coupe. I'm hoping Toyota can come out with something good for the 8th gen, but I'm guessing they'll sell out again, maybe add an Echo back end or something! If we're luck maybe we'll see a Toyota Celica Type-S .. complete with every Civic add-on you could imagine.. Shaun |

From my experiences, older Celica owners are generally pretty cool and don't really hate on my car. I've run into serveral people with older Celicas who liked my car and complimented me on it.
![]() As far as seventh generation Celica people go though, I've found that they're generally much more snobbish and much more un-informed and much less respectful. I've talked to a couple seventh gen. people only to find that my car sucks in their opinion because it isn't a sixth generation Celica GT-S. ![]() Even though seventh gen. people don't seem to like me, I do like seventh generation Celicas, as well as older Celicas as well. All Celicas are great cars, but I love sixth generation Celicas the most. ![]() -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

I agree with Coomer about the attitude of some gen 7 owners. They don't respect the gen 6, where as most of us would respect the older gen celicas.
It's a controversial opion maybe, but I reckon Toyota sold out with the gen 7. For the first time(?) they gave the job of styling to a company outside of Japan, who have just copied the current fashion for sharp edged angular cars. No offense, but I reckon the Japanese designers should have been used to create a true Celica and retain it's Oriental design influences. The new celica now looks too similar to cars that all the common manufacturers like Ford and GM make. Thats why there are so many gen 7s about. That said, it still has all the strengths of the gen 6, like build quality, reliability etc so it is still a 'good car' . ![]() -------------------- Facelift bumper-foglights-clear indicators, clear side repeaters, 16in O.Z alloys, stainless steel grill. When 7ths came out, i wasnt too impressed with the looks....but its grown on me alot since then. They look really unique when you think about it, and its a good car with a nice balance between fuel economy and power. Although i would rather have a nice 6th gen, i would be equally as proud to own a 7th gen, im sure.

I have no problem with the 7th gen celica's or any generation
of Celica. I have to admit I do get the occasional snooty look from a 7th gen owner ( the kind of look that says what are you still doing with a Celica that has ceased production). These are the kind of people who buy cars for status, and haven't a clue or interest in what makes their car tick and how to improve it (no car is perfect). For me I won't rubbish anyones car off if I can see that they have the same enthusiasm in their car and are not afraid to get their hands dirty when necessary. A true enthusiast lives by this rule and will only break it with those who are the exception |

Good post! I can totally feel you when you were describing the diminished characteristic of the 7th gen. When you said that you don't know what it is about the 7th gen that disappoints you, I highly agree with you in regards to the lack of class or prestige. Since the advent of the GT-FOUR, we've seen the Celica pushed to its limits on the tracks and in the rally world. However, the 7th gen lacks that characteristic. Fun to drive? Maybe. Does it uphold the reputation that it once had? Not any longer. I don't take into how people complain that the 7th gens are all over the road nowadays; but I do agree with how a lot of the 7th gen owners (mostly kids) are ignorant about their own cars, as well as previous gens. But you know, we were all at that stage at some point in our lives. I'm 25 now. I can still remember joining my first racing team and was still learning about the whole seen. I can honestly say that I was ignorant in high school and thought that I could just run down to any local tuner shop and purchase a turbo kit. But times have changed; I've grown and learned a lot since then and I'm sure that those young ignorant 7th gen owners will eventually (I hope) become more educated as they grow older. -Ray This post has been edited by kuya1284: Jul 5, 2003 - 3:37 PM |

Hey Ray! I whole-heartedly agree! There is a definite lack of prestige in the 7th gen. There's no flair to it since it's become one of those Dodge Stratus cookie cutter styled cars! I was actually looking at one today and you can tell -- it's just not a finished product in terms of styling. I've even driven a couple of them, and there's none of that genuine Toyota feel. It had the feel of a Civic or Integra.. but whatever. It's clear the prestige is gone! But I will say these final two comments : (1) Many many many people tell me they LOVED the 6th gens hands down over the new Celica. Our cars are finished products, and you can tell whatever team designed it paid extreme attention to every detail! (2) My girlfriend and I stayed at a fancy hotel up here in Toronto a few weeks ago because of some theatre-dinner-show package we had bought. Anyhow. I called the valley from the room before we headed down stairs and asked for the person to bring the car up. Anyway the front driveway is a huge covered roundabout with thousands of lightbulbs on the ceiling. Gives cars that are parked under it this "dazzling" effect. So when I looked out at my car it was parked along side three other cars. A Ferrari 360 Modena, an 99 (or so) E-Class, and a 7th gen celica. The only thing I could think of was "one of these things just don't belong" (and I'm not talking about the Ferrari either! lol) |

God man I know the headlights are so sad and the cars as$ is stuck up in the air way to much like a girl going doggy. I think they should have refined the round headlights like mercedes and porsche have been doing, would have look much nicer. I saw some pictures of what is supposidly (but doubtfuly) the 8th gen with rounded headlights and looks tight.

My bro has a 7th generation and I keep telling him that he has a good quality car, but the only thing bad about it is that it's UGLY. Our cars have all the nice curves in the body style while the newer cellis have too many angles. Now about older generations..............I personally like 5th generations. I think they look good and this one guy that lives around town here that has one, beeps and gives me the thumbs up often and I do the same to him.
