when i start my car i hear a grinding noise and it goes away like a second after, and then i start going and thats when it gets horrible, its grinding louder than my exhaust, even with my system turned up you can still hear it, im thinking the axles but i already replaced the passenger side and it didnt do anything, and after awhile the noise goes away, know whats up?

axles are a bad start if it does it at idle like that
i'd check the starter, and umm...iunno maybe pulleys, but if it's that loud... :\
i'm a little stumped if the car seems to be normally functioning with this.

its most likely your water pump. ive had this happen to me before. the bearing inside the waterpump errr disintergrates i think. get the water pump checked out if u can,

also a good tale tale way of knowing if it is the waterpump is that your car will run slighlty hotter then usual. that is until the waterpump dies alltogether....

my guess is a starter aswell, it it only grinding when ur turning the engine over then my guess is the starter smile.gif but if its not... it woulndt be the axles because the car isnt actually moving... the tranny isnt even connected yet because its not engaged. quite possibly water pump... starter.. just like the last too said smile.gif

the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.

dood im going through your same situation. I check my mounts, brakes, and crossmember, just because i recently put a new tranny on my 5s. But i think its the cv axle that are making that noise. I had my car lift and let it run up in the air at 60mph. Looking at my axle i see it vibrating real bad at the outer. I dont think im installing my axle right cause this is my 4th time replacing it.

Ive worked alot on cars and the noise you seem to be hearing is 99% from a bearing/idler, it could be from any pulley alternator idler, power steering aircon. ect the part will not cost much, to find it is more of the hassle smile.gif let us no how it goes wink.gif
