Searched and couldn't find what i needed.. (swap related so i posted here, sorry if it should be in the interior/elec)

I'm installing an oil pressure gauge and a water temp gauge..

they are both electric and were made by prosport.

My questions are... do i need to tap into things for the probes/senders or are there stock places i can bolt these into? Or..... should i tap the wires off of the stock sensors?

both i'd suggest getting somethign to tap with

oil, i'm guessing searching will get u the part to get.

and for coolant, Greddy makes a nifty little piece w/ threading. it's a little pricey though, i'm guessing there is a cheaper route for the coolant, but that's the way i'd do it tongue.gif

I just finished the fuel pressure one, that was real simple

ok for the oil pressure you have 2 options...you can use the gauge to replace your stock oil pressure switch (then your low oil light on the dash would remain off) or you can get an adapter like this and use both

adapter from tunertoys

stock ^^

for the water temp...maybe defgeph or nightryder will be around soon to drop some knowledge wink.gif

for the oil gauge.... you dont NEED the tee. you can just ditch the factory sender and screw in the one for the oil gauge. you just have to make sure the thread is metric on the prosport sender. if its not, then youll need to buy a bag of metric adapters that sunpro makes. you can find them in most car parts stores.

if it doesn't want to screw in, dont force it, cause you could damage the threads in the head and end up with a nice oil leak.

i found this thread on MR2OC, but i don't want to replace the stock sensor, because then i will loose that gauge in my cluster... and it will look stupid on the C all day.. lol

I'm guessing i can just tap the neck somewhere, but im still searching so i tap it in the right spot and don't F anything up.

nice nice thanks,

did you need any special adapters to transfer from metric to standard, etc.?

My only concern with the water temp being hooked in like that is i have read somewhere that the temp probe needs to be in the path of the coolant to get a more accurate reading..?

thats the way to go for a clean install for the temp gauge. you just cut your upper rad hose, put the apropriate sized adapter in there, and screw your sender into that.
for the oil pressure, if you wanna use your stock dummy light, get teh adapter dustin posted from tunertoys.

what do you think of the prosport gauges so far? hows the quality? i keep hearing good things about them, and they are priced very low.

well i love the styling, they are exactly what i was looking for in that aspect, the directions for installation could be better, but thats not a huge issue.. one thing that is becoming a problem is how deep they are.. they barely fit into the triple pod and im afraid i will have issues with the DCW single.. i may have to cut my dash which is the last thing i want to do.

There new series of Pro gauges or what not with warning lights and the peak light seems like they would be an awesome buy.

My opinion, so far i couldn't be happier with them smile.gif tongue.gif

Manny,

I was thinking about doing that with the temp sensor, i was reading about that on a miata forum, is there an easy place to buy one of those?

I plan on ditching the stock oil pressure sensor so that one is easy

EDIT:

http://www.splparts.com/

It almost costs the same as the gauge to get that adapter!!!

yea, those are pretty common too, only problem with that is clearance issues with a aftermarket DP on the 3s.

x1000 I love this thing... the block adaptor made life waaay easy to install my gauges. I hooked up both oil temp and oil pressure using this thing. I also think it could double as a source of oil for a turbo for those boosting NA motors. I also seen similar products for people who have LS motors in their integra who want to run a b16 head, for LS Vtec otherwise you would tap into the head for oil... greddy FTW!

if you use a K&N oil filter you will have no problem. It is REALLY tight but there is just enough room to remove and replace the oil filter back on. wink.gif

Why are the prosport gauges or twosrus so cheap? cheap money wise. They look bad ass though. I'm getting them.

I love them, have been using them for a week now.. beware though, they are pretty deep so mounting in certain pods could be difficult.

But i love them so far biggrin.gif

ok so i thought it was too xpensive to buy one of the radiator hose pieces to mount my temp sensor for the water temp gauge. So i went to home depot, bought a 3 inch long peice of 1inch pipe from the plumbing department. Its the kind that is threaded on both ends. Then i went home and found out what size tap i needed and borrowed a friends taps and drilled a hole and tapped the correct threads in.

Then i screwed my temp gauge in, and inserted the whole thing into my top radiator hose smile.gif

total cost: 94 cents
total time: 30 minutes give or take

For the oil pressure gauge im just going to suck it up and buy the tuner toy piece, unless i can get clever and figure out some cheap effective way..

whatever gets the job done. wink.gif
for the oil pressure gauge, DO NOT cheap out and use some cheap brass fitting. brass is soft, and will crack and split over time...spraying oil all over your engine...and if your not lucky..while your driving...BOOM wink.gif

mind showing some pics?..

ive gotten the greddy oil filter block/water temp adapter..both didnt fit my obx guages which i think is ricey but now im thinking twice about these "china* deals...now i have to go get some more fittings to install these cheap gauges...and sand down the water sensor from the guage.....(its too big to fit in the water temp sensor)...*sigh*
