okay so liek 2 weeks ago i installed my new sound system:
Alpine Headunit 15' Type R' sub Hifonics Brutus Amp 1,200 rms....supposedly it freking pounds the **** out of my car! its jsut pure vibrations and thumps. however its not a friendly fit in the coupe. i had to remove the spare tire to create...liek a divit for it to fit. but anyway it pounds..alot and how its set up now, i finally got it turned around so its sitting how most ppl have their subs positioned ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() so it pretty much takes up the whole trunk. and like i said, its no longer positioned like that anymore ![]() This post has been edited by KB-2: Jan 10, 2007 - 8:28 PM -------------------- ![]() KB |

yea...the box was a lil bigger than i visualized....
right now i have it pointing towards the front seats, so it gets pretty darn loud, especially with the seats down ![]() -------------------- ![]() KB |

If you point it towards the licence plate, it'll be louder. It should anyway. I haven't had experience with the acoustics of a celica yet, but in theory that's where it'll be loudest.

really?
i thought it would be louder facing the front cause it ahs more airspace and more air to move or wahtever? -------------------- ![]() KB |

^face it to rear because the sound waves bouce off the back and produce a stonger sound. you face it towards the front and more airspace=less defined sound/weaker response.

In theory, it's because no matter what direction you point the box, the soundwaves are going to radiate from every direction, incuding the direction opposite to where the cone is facing. By putting the cone facing to the rear, your sound waves bounce back almost immediately and are in much closer phase with the waves radiating from the back of the box. Otherwise, they are not quite in phase and cancel each other out a bit resulting in lower apparent sound levels.
I'll try to find the article where I read that (been a couple years). -------------------- One o'dem crazy Canadian freaks, eh?

I believe, and you can correct me if I'm wrong, that the actual sound from a subwoofer actually comes out the back, and not the front. which is why facing it away from the driver makes it louder. also the reason why the box itself affects the sound/volume of it.

Actually, the best setup(tested by a guy with published results) is a subwoofer positioned against the rear . Here for details: http://www.teamrocs.com/technical/pages/aiming.htm As for subwoofer sound. Any speaker will have a sound wave behind and in front of it. After all, it is just a cone(paper etc) vibrating away. The box air volume acts sort of like a car shock, it "controls" cone movement which is why many people say that you can easily blow subs(not designed for freeair) if you run it free air because it doesnt have the resisting force from the air volume in the box anymore. This also brings about the use of thick mdf for box construction(18mm>), not only is it vital to have a non flexing box.... it also helps prevent the backwave of the sub from destructively interfering with the front waves which will cause cancellation.(same theory applies to door speakers) and yea I have nothing better to do now ![]() This post has been edited by soven: Jan 12, 2007 - 2:38 AM |

![]() my friend also jsut got a new system recently in his jeep, hes got 2 12' kickers....i think crv's?? or anyway they are jsut the basic ones....and they were...wow crazy bass, i was very suprised. i think for my next set up...which wont be for a while...will be some type of kickers...im feeling L7's or whatever they are called..get 2 12's......but my only questions is.....can i use One Mono Amp to power 2 subs? or even better can i sue Two Mono amps to power two subs (one amp per sub?) if the subs are in the same box..... -------------------- ![]() KB |

You can use one mono to power as many subs as you want as long as the resistance presented to the amplifier does not drop below what the amp can handle. Can also use two monos for two subs in the same box as long as the subs and amp are the same model.

alrihgt, i turend the woofer around earlier today...took some custom fabrication....consisting of a pillow..and a piece of wood
![]() due to i ahd ot remove the spare tire ot make it fit how it is.....obviously there was a large dip i nfloor, so the woofer would be bashing up againts the wall if i dint support it somehow, so i jammed a big pillow in the crater to fill it up, and then locked it in place with a piece or 2 of solid wood....dont woordy its not visible. didnt get a chance to test the sound diffrence yet however... -------------------- ![]() KB |
