Should i turbo or get a 3sgte Options

Im in highschool and money isnt flowing wild but should i turbo my 5s with 115k or just get a 3sgte? thanks

Honestly, 3sgte

the cost would be about the same (if you do it right for a 5sfte) but the 3s is made for the turbo and would handle it better.

just my opinion though..

I turboed my dads toyotal paseo some years back, and it didnt come att all bad, but even when it comes to the work that is envolved I belive it is much more convienient to just put the 3SGTE beast in, I just finished mine and came really good if I say so myself, so the 3SGTE swap is a must

You should save your money, then do a 3sgte swap a little down the road. Save enough to do it right the first time.

what you really need to do, is sit down, and determine what your goals for the car are (REALISTICLY)
then make your decision based on that.

Im going to agree with them on the 3s-gte, i am also in highschool and also have a 94 hatch, i thought about turboing my 5s but realistically if u have a 94' chances are your going to have a substantial amout of wear already on ur engine, and if your anything like me u drive the hell out of it. if you turbo ur 5s your prolly gna need a new 5s engine to start with, also finding stronger interanals that will hold the boost, not to mention re-flashing ur cpu and upgrade a few more things. i knew a guy at a import company that will give you the AWD conversion, 2nd or 3rd gen 3sgte, and the RHD conversion all for 2400....so just be realistic when u decide....although turboing a 5s would be a neat acomplishment...hope that helped.

i knew a guy at a import company that will give you the AWD conversion, 2nd or 3rd gen 3sgte, and the RHD conversion all for 2400

i wanna know more.

im assuming thats labor only, no way that cost includes labor and parts

i think that's just for parts. labor for an awd conversion will cost something like 10 grand.

a lot depends on where you live also and if you want to sell the car later , a 3s is not going to pass any state title inspection as it was not offered in the celica , i think the only loop hole is if you have a 92-95 celica and use a mr2 motor i think ,but i could be wrong . i know in ohio if you swap and then sell to someone out of state you will have to replace the motor with the stock one and there is a big fine for it.

My car passed state inspection (safety and emissions < not sure if thats diff than title inspec)

It passed a month ago and i have a 3s

I also got lucky and they never popped the hood

safty and emmisions are differant then a title inspection , title inspection is where they check the vin numbers and make sure everything matches what the title tells them ,and to make sure you are using legal parts and motors , i got this inspection done 2 times all ready one i needed to get the title redone as i have a salvage title and the second time was at a car show i went to the cops went thru and looked under the hood and vins on all cars.

is that even legal for a cop to do? they have no right to search your car (or your engine bay) without probable cause or your consent. even if they find out that your vins dont match, you could have legally bought a motor from a junk yard and swapped it into your own car.

Don't try that attitude in CA... you will get your car impounded. Something as simple as an aftermarket muffler or lights is enough cause to force you to pop your hood...

Inspections, smog requirements and all that kind of stuff is different in each state. In CA, you can have all the busted up lights, non-working seatbelts and everything and still get your car registered. But if the seal on your gas cap leaks, boom - no registration...

It might have been stipulated in the car show regulations to let the police check the engine.

The only thing a cop can search with probable cause is your glove compartment and center console. anything other than that he needs a warrant. but as a licensed driver you do waive alot of your rights.

the entire st205 or st215 conversion for 2400 is just the parts...they dont install anything, just sell

hey man let me tell you what all the experienced people told me,........i am currently in high school and have no certificate to ase whatsoever............but back to the point, they told me dont touch anything under the hood unless you got your self a reliable job,...............believe me you need it but i got one since i was 16 so with a lot of patience, 1 year later and $8k+ later i have a fully built 3sgte haltech tuned in the celica hatch, my plans are to hit 11's this summer on drag radials,......................and another thing,. never let people tell you youre too young and your another wannabe "fast and the furious" boy, believe me people like that just make me wanna finish faster to prove them wrong, cops , and people on forums usually think cuz youre young you dont know much but hey just prove em wrong, look at me 17 no diploma saying i can do mechanics,.......or havent gone to school for it but taught my self by GETTING DIRTY!!!!!! and thats how you gain experience,.........from mistakes! PATIENCE!! ...............and MONEY! lots and lots of this green stuff called MONEY!

this is true with the junk yard motor but you are asked to prove that you have a receipt to show the purchase and what car it came out of like for example you can not swap a ford 2.3l turbo motor from a 87 stang into a 95 stang ,the motor will fit and work but it was not offered in that year or model. and as far as legal all they have to do is say you were not wearing a seatbelt or that they think you may have been street racing or speeding then they have the right to sereach the car , they open the hood and see a blue vacuum line or a big filter and they then have the right to title sereach as long as you can prove everything is legal and nothing stolen ,or pass any emmissions test or sound test (exhaust noise or radio setup) then you are good to go it is a real pain

i agree and if he plans on keeping the celica than do a swap and use it to race ,but if you want a real challenage build up a 5s the right, and legal way , dont think i am trying to dis you or anthing i would love to have a 3s in my 6 gen but the law issue is just to much of a gamble for me so i turboed my 7a now my 5 gen i just got i will be putting in a 3s as it was offered in that model and good luck with your goal for 11's i would love to see a 3s 6 gen hit that
