this was my first manual car so i've never really had any tranny problems to deal with and so i have no idea what im dealing with.

up until about 3 days ago my 94 celica st was driving beautifully. moderate pull from a stop and it flied when you put the gas down at any speed. that is until suddenly i wasnt getting any power from the motor to the wheels. it basically goes really really slow from a stop and revs higher than normal after i shift and eventually comes back down to regular engine speed all while getting very little 'forward push.' feels like clutch isn't all the way engaged.

doesn't have this problem until after the engine warms up a bit( about 8 blocks after starting from cold.)

what do i need to fix, replace, buy? to remedy this???

ask any questions you need to and i'll elaborate on everything you want to know.

thanks,

Your clutch is slipping. Buy a clutch kit which includes clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and alighnment tool. Throw that in and you should be good. Or just take it to a shop and have them replace it for you.

the oem clutch is pretty instant and should work fine. cheaper than an aftermarket one too. since it's your first manual..you're probably riding the clutch too much.

I had the exact same problem.
If you're looking to spend some money, I got the ACT Street clutch with heavy duty pressure plate and the shifting is much faster since the engagement is almost right off the floor. So far I've enjoyed it greatly.

Every clutch is going to engage differently, regardless of brand. Even throughout the life of the clutch. After install it may let out near the floor, after it's broken in it may let out near the top and vice-versa.

Just put in a new clutch in my son's car, got it from here;
He's just learning how to drive a manual also so I bought this instead of a high perf one.
