Ok this some ricer $hit I know but I have no choice. I need to pic up my GT4 hood from Ngofcukingway butit's approx. 60miles away through the city of Houston and I have no truck. Just the Celica. If you've seen my Audio/Video thread you know I have no room in the hatch for anything.
In order to pick up my hood I have but one option - Take off my stock hood and drive to his place and instal the GT4 hood and then drive back in style.
Anybody know of any reason why this would not be ok? Minus the obvious freak rainstorm, bird dodo in the wrong place or something flying off another car and landing in my engine bay.

Hood got dented and was interfering with the engine - Im on my way right now to pick up a new one.
Think that will work?
Knowing Houston's finest and their hatred for fixed up imports I'll be receiving a big ass ticket.

Really what I was wondering is driving without a hood gonna cause anything mechanical or electrical to come loose. etc. I have a pic of my engine bay in my profile.
IDK - I'm just overly worried about my baby.

no, it wouldn't be muck louder with a gt4 good. My 'vader hood with its vent didn't make my car louder.

You should be fine w/out the hood. Just check your local weather channel before you go.

Take plenty of pics when you get it!

LOL. Now that i think about it. If I still had T-Spoon, i could've dropped the GT-4 on the car, drop off the hood with you, borrow your stock hood to put back on T-spoon, go back to get my old blue, then scratch our heads trying to figure out how to get your old stocker back home. lol

Thanks ya'll. I'm gonna wait till dark and then go for it. Wish I could just tarp it or something to keep the cops off me and my peace of mind but my headers will def set that on fire. They almost have burned through the underhood fire retardent blanket looking thing.
On the subject - do you think the GT4 middle vent which will be directly over the header will melt because of the header? If you look at the engine pic in my profile I have thermal wrapped the #1 pipe near the alt to keep the heat off the alt but I really don't like the look of a wrapped header. Then again Jeff @ Toyota world says that vent is on back order so if i fcuk that one up I'll be screwed for a while. Anybody on here with header and GT4 hood? Think I'll smoke it?

While your on my profile please feel free to leave me any comments. I've been on here for a long time and I have almost no comments.

He break his windshield with his $700 hood? That sux.
Yeah I'll be modding a stock latch from a junkyard for this hood. Anybody got any pics or dimensions for how much longer and which part needs to be lengthened? That part is on back order at Toyota world and I can't see buying one when I have a CNC machineshop at my disposal. If some one provides me with the right info I can make a production drawing for all of us so that we can have them done professionally. Also I'd be willing to do it for free if anyone needs theirs lengthened.
Check the TRD quickshifter thread for an example of a spacer I drafted for that. I can provide drawings in scanned or .DXF formats.
As always I will help anyone with this stuff for free or materials. I can't see charging you guys. the way I see it we are all in this together.

I think it needs to be lengthened half an inch.

Won't be able to meet up tonight. Dinner with gf and her 'rents probably.

I just remembered that my dad has a truck, but I don't know if he'll let me borrow it for a day. What we can do is like what someone just said previously: go down with your stock hood, swap out, then I can bring you your stocker back when I can get my hands on a truck. The hood latched close on T-Spoon, but I'm not sure about Elis@beth. Let me know when you're free. I can go tomorrow at 1 with you if you're free, if not, then it'll have to be Sunday morning or something.

the main latch is perfect. all you need to do is lengthen the safety latch hook by about a half inch or so. that is only really necessary though if you have the gt4 bumper. the stock safety latch works but it is tight. also, if you do buy a gt4 hood latch, make sure it is lhd.

Just a hard way to learn that tie wraps aren't made to hold a hood closed.

was actually thinking of doing just that LOL. Just to double check the hood.
An old member on here used a whole pack of tie wrapps to act as a rear tranny mount when he swapped his car using the MR2 tranny. Just to get from his shop to mine driving slowly, shifting easy and not hitting boost. When we got to my shop [about 20 miles away] only like 5 of them were still holding on. Funny story

oh i remember it... wink.gif
and btw, while we're on this topic. you can use your oem hood latch temporarily. just be sure it's 'shut all the way' and not hanging off the safety latch because the hood (since it's bulged up a little) will make it look like it's property closed. while you still have the stock bumper, you're good to keep using the stock latch since you can get your fingers in the gap between the hood and bumper.. once you get the gt4 bumper on, you'll have to do something about that latch. i simply cut my safety latch for the time being until i order a lhd gt4 latch this spring.

Negative officially has the hood now and was able to travel 40 miles back up to the northside of town safely at ~65MPH (or so he claims) without any problems. tongue.gif Now, quick question to anyone with the GT-4 hood, do you guys know what the 4 li'l holes are that are at the back of the hood sitting in that li'l dip? Not really sure how to explain their locations, but they're there. Didn't notice them until tonight when I saw the hood on his car.

they are for mounting the wrc hood spoiler, a very hard to find part. he is either going to have to fill those holes or try and source a hood spoiler.

I'm not sure how much it would cost you to import but you can still get the WRC bonnet spoiler from Toyota UK for £46. I was about to buy one but managed to find someone today who was throwing one out so I had it laugh.gif

Hell Yeah! Got and installed the hood. Plus we ended the "can I drive with no hood" question in style - a '06 TRD Tacoma!
Here are some pics [crappy cell-phone pics]:
IPB Image
IPB Image
The Taco:
IPB Image
And the look I've been waiting for.....
IPB Image
So now all that's left is to extend the latch and paint the hood. Think I'm gonna leave the vents black since they are already clearcaoted and look nice. Not sure though - taking opinions. I'm not gonna paint anything untill I get my OEM exstensions from doggy here in the next couple of weeks.
BTW - I drove around all weekend and even drove halfway to Austin and back with no issues. When I got there I popped the hood for my GFs Dad [he's into cars too] and I actually had to use the release inside the car and the Hood popped right up? I haven't opened it again yet but IDK why that happened. Everytime before that the release was useless and I could just open the hood from the front using the gap. The catches work just fine - I believe that as long as you make sure you close the hood securely the stock hood latch is fine until you go GT4 bumper - which I won't be doing. For any of you who may share my opinion that the GT4 bumper is just too busy and squares out the lines of the car - the gap caused by the GT4 hood looks totally intentional. It actually makes a useable scoop that vents right over the turbo and out the big main vent. I'm happy with the results. It's exactly the way I wanted it to look. Makes me crave the OEM exstensions though so Doggy - I got money comin your way very soon.
Then it's paint time!

you still have to disengage the main latch in the car but the hood wont pop up. if you used the release and it popped right up, then the safety hook wasnt engaged. make sure the safety hook engages when you close it. look through the gap and double check. its very tight. im sure you noticed you have to press down on the hood to unlatch the safety hook. i loosened the bolts on the latch and shifted it up as much as i could and i also took the bumper seal off when i had my hood on. helped alot. i also dropped the hood from a bit higher to make sure it engaged. but i agree, the gap looks very intentional. my friend with a firebird thought it was supposed to be like that. by the way, plan on getting the wrc spoiler?

im still thinking of maybe getting a 404 lip instead of a gtfour bumper

Yeah. I shouldn't have said "popped up" - it still doesn't pop up but the first 2 days with the new hood the release inside the car didn't do anything. Now [I just checked it again], I have to hit the release inside before I let the manual release on the front just like the stock hood except it doesn't pop up. That's even better - I have my alarm hooked up to the hood but I feel extra safe knowing a theif will have to get inside the car before he can get inside the hood.
Still wish I had gotten your hood but black doesn't look bad at all in the meantime. Makes me wanna paint my whole car flat black.
Only downside - my header is getting uglier because it rained to day.

ya after having the gtfour hood on for awhile, it got my engine bay a lot dirtier than it was. you can also unhook the safety latch first and then pop the hood and it will pop up. ya at first i thought anybody could open my hood too until i figured it out tongue.gif

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

And if you thought the GT4 hood didn't look good with the stock USDM bumper - I beg to differ. I always thought/hoped it would look like this. I couldn't be happier.

QUOTE(celicaST @ Mar 10, 2007 - 1:49 AM)

they are for mounting the wrc hood spoiler, a very hard to find part. he is either going to have to fill those holes or try and source a hood spoiler.

they are 85 cents each and so you'll need 4 of them. check this pic:

Thanks azian_advanced for that. Anybody got a picture of the spoiler installed on a WRC GT4? I'm thinking I don't want it but who knows it may look good.
I used to have fun with people at meets defending my friends 7th Gen GTS with TRD bodykit cause she had those little wings in the front by the windshield. The domestic guys would say it was stupid, useless and rice and I would always point to the Huge TRD wing on the back, call them stupid and say that that was the useless rice. If anything the front spoilers are somewhat functional - FWD car. In all actuality they were both probably useless but it's funny to watch those guys scratch their heads and walk off. laugh.gif

Oh $hit that's nice. Great now I need another part. Anybody know how much the OEM one costs and how to get it? I saw the aftermarket replica but I prefer Genuine Toyota Parts.
