First nice day in a few months, I'm on my way to work, in bumper to bumper traffic (no speeding) cop slowly comes across 3 lanes of traffic, and pulls me over.

Officer: Licsence and registration
me: ::hands over licsence and reg.::
officer: know why I pulled you over?
me: no idea officer.
officer: can you roll up your window a bit?
me: sure...::roll window a quarter of the way up::
officer: ::puts funny contraption on window:: can u see that read out?
me: yes.
officer: your tints are 14.4%, the legal limit is 70%

Here is the ticket:
IPB Image

I recieved a ticket for window tints.....nothing else......

cops in my town i guess have nothing better to do but pull me over for dark windows...lol

70 % is the lowest they go? Hell, whats the point of tinting your windows then? S***, why don't we take all our windows out, because the stock glass might be too dark for them.

i asked the officer what 70% looked like, and he asked if I had seen his cruiser. (stupid question) i said yes, and he said that his stock tint is 74%, so not much darker then what he has.

nice weather is when it starts here....(ny) tuners come out, and the police hit anyone with a fairly nice set of wheels. Not to mention red, tinted, and a driver under 30....its just sad.

That is not true.
You may legally tint your window I don't know where you got that info from but it's wrong.

According to Section 375 Subsection 12-a.(b)
" No person shal operate any motor vehivel upon any public highway, road or street : (1) that the front windsheild of which is composed of, covered by or treated with any material which has a light transmittance of less than seventy percent unless such materials are limited to the uppermost six inces of the windheild; or
(2) The sidewings or side windows of which on either side foward or adjacent to the operator;s seat are composed of, covered by or treated with any material which has a light transmittance of less than severny persent.
(3) If it is classified as a station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe, hatchback or convertable and any rear side window hsa a light trans, ittance of less than seventy percent ; or
(4)the rear window of which is composed of, covered by or treated with any material which has a light transmittance of less than severnty percent. A rear window may have a light tansmittance of less than severnty percent if the vehicle is ewuipp[ed with side mirrors on both sides of the vehicle so adjusted that the driver thereof shall have a clear and full view of the road and condition of traffic behind such vehicle. "

Thats all of the statute.

After reading this you will see that in the NYS Vehicle and Traffic law it is not stated anywhere that it is illegal to have a tint that is not from the factory. You may have tints, but the must be less than 70%. The ennnnd.

I hate police. I really do. Worthless pieces of crap. 9 out of 10 of them are just out there to piss you off. You can even pull the, "Yes sir, no sir" stuff, and they just smile and give you a ticket for something stupid. They are power hungry losers with not near the necessary training to do what they are doing.

i dont think they are power hungry as much as they just have a quota to fill. they need to generate X amount of revenue for the city each month.
