I have friday free from going anywhere until i leave saturday morning for the meet and I want to paint my Rusty a$$ drums, I need ur opinion. The new pics of the car are below, no side shots but you see my color. Two of my friends mentioned dark red for my drums and calipers this evening but i want any of your opinions!!! Should i go with a color that offsets or blends?

^x2. rear drums aren't exactly something you'd wanna show off. when i had them, i painted them flat black. and my front calipers were gloss black so they still matched but looked a lil nicer.

So a black color to blend away is so far the idea i'm going to go, but if anyone is good at photoshop could you gold/bronze my front caliper as a visual aid? Maybe a black rear drum with a bronze painted front calipers?

The fogs look cool man - don't listen to them. It does look rally-ish and the "Celica" sorta finishes it nicely.
Is the Car dark green or is it black? It's hard to tell. I'm not sure if you can find High-temp bronze/gold paint but that would look sweet. No shame in painting your drums but a rear caliper upgrade is not that expensive and would be best. Prob can't get it done before the meet tho. Just junkyard all the brackets and get rebuilt calipers from the parts store unless you can afford new stuff from the dealer.

The car is "toyota grey" as the dealer calls it. So black paint for the drums and IF i can find a high temp bronze then paint the front calipers? I think that would look pretty good.

If I had the power, I'd have disc's in the back but I don't need that kind of stopping power with how i drive. Imo my car would look ALOT better with disc's and from what i hear here, its not too hard to do the conversion but since i have knee sugery in a couple weeks, my focus is on other things at the moment. Maybe next summer.

In reply to the lights, they are what seperate me from everyone else in the celica community but also in my state. I don't take ur comments as mean jabs at all, I just know how to take feedback. But the only alternative that i consider possible is whether to put a nice black grill where they are and hide them in the back, because they are way to bright and great to have in bad weather in vermont that I'm not ready to take them off. So come next summer when I'm making money again and I'm 100% from surgery I'll possibly be tackling the rear disc conv. doing bodywork to remove all the rust and taking a look at grilling the front and hiding the lights. The celicas a never ending project smile.gif

Paint drums to hide them (black) and paint calipers to show them (whatever colour you want!) I'm going for red on my calipers.

The tC grill fits almost perfectly on the face-lift front. No cutting just a few zipties to the little bars in the mouth and put the covers back over and you can't even tell it wasn't stock. wink.gif

i was mainly making a joke, i do not personally care for the 4 fog lights, but if you do, thats all that matters cause its your car.

you should look in to getting the ssIII grill, i think theres one on ebay right now

little pricey, but oem smile.gif

if you can afford it, buy some POR15 in black.
it will look good, and the drums will NEVER rust thru.

just get some normal metallic gold/bronze spray paint and put like 5 coats of high temp clear coat spray paint over it. i did that to my bro's calipers a while ago and they still look good.

I'm with devilsden97,

If you've got inferior brakes, you don't want to advertise the fact by painting them any colour other than black. Paint your front calipers any colour you like, Red might look good but might be a bit predictable.

Yeah, come to mention it, those fogs do look pretty sweet! Nice idea! No offence intended with my comments about "inferior" brakes either, I'll choose my words more carefully in future. Black always looks best when you've got rear brake drums instead of discs/calipers.

No worries on the "inferior" brakes, i know they are drums and drums are thumbsdown.gif . I have a non-stop smile bc migga loves my car so much smile.gif Oh and ur welcome on the radar detector idea. I'm still thinking about what color for my calipers though, bronze? dark blue? red/maroon?

Is your car a dark green/grey metallic? If so, maybe bronze would look best? I wouldn't worry too much about doing a rear disc conversion either for the time being. Nobody's gonna notice your drums if you've painted them black anyhow. I don't know what kind of power your car is putting out but if you don't feel its enough to justify getting a disc conversion at the moment, then don't.

You mentioned in a previous post that you were doing some bodywork on your car, getting rid of the rust? maybe that should be your priority, although I have to admit, I can't see any rough bodywork anywhere in your pics!

Anyway, enough of my BS, hope your knee surgery goes well!

Yeah next summer I'll be tackling the body rust. Its hard to see in my pics but it's eating my driverside door, front pass fender, and rear drivers fender. The car color is toyota grey, at the CSP meet this weekend several of the guys circled my car and checked the paintcode bc they didn't think it was an oem color smile.gif

I have acl surgery june 11th, and since i've decided to have a fun summer till then and not work I have plenty of time on my hands to get the small things on my car done. I'll take a look into the bronze caliper paint next time I'm out which should be today. Thanks for the input!

use that POR15 stuff Manny was talking about. I've seen what can happen to those doors if you let it go too far and it scares me, I'll be putting some on my doors just to prevent it entirely... and you're in VT so by this time next year you won't have doors anymore haha

just do the rear disc conversion. its easy, looks good, and you'd be able to paint it right since they'll be off the car. I think red is a classic color for calipers and looks really good. I don't know if you saw my rear calipers but hey are high temp "Ford Red" (so are Dustin's)

I went to autozone and went with your "ford red" suggestion steph. After looking at blue and another color red I found the "ford red" in the high temp engine paint section. I will post up pics of my rear drum painting as well as the calipers once I finish. I'll save the rear disc conversion for next summer smile.gif

I'll also look into that POR15 stuff but my door is beyond saving at this point.

UPDATES! So I finally have pics of the rear drum painting process and the calipers, it took me 3 hours to do the calipers bc I bounced around the house and my bros car and talking to the family..oh and I forgot to lift both sides at the same time and do them together and I ended up doing one side at a time. Should take anyone around an hour and a half to do. (calipers)
