can u use it to purchase stuff online and like buy food at restraunts? |

atm stands for automatic teller machine, you can only use it to take money out of your checking account from the atm. not untill u get your debit card (u will probably have to be 18) can you make purchases. dont you get something that describes what it is when you open the account?

New law. that cant be true, where did you hear that. as far as i know it varies from bank to bank and the oldest i have seen is 18, but they usually can give you student checking account w/ atm card at 16. edit: didnt catch the sarcasm lol im an idiot

There is no need to be so harsh guys...
mrgrape an ATM card can only be used to take cash out of an ATM machine. If you have a checking account you can get a "debit card" a debit card can be used just like a credit card. When you use it the money will come directly from your checking account.
