At times, when im bored i think about death and what if there is no afterlife. Just the thought about being nothing for eternity is kinda scary. Anybody else have these thoughts?

If you think about it like that, it can be scary but only because you ARE. My belief is, that I honestly do not know. I don't believe in god, a god, or gods, but I believe in a possiblity. I also have a belief that dying is like shutting off a computer. As soon as it is shut down, it doesn't think, it doesn't act, it just ISN'T.

I believe that if there is nothing after you die, then so be it! You won't know, obviously, if there isn't, and if there is, then awesome, super, woohoo.

I choose to not preoccupy myself with issues such as this to simply avoid the fact. In all honesty, we all will die. Some sooner than later.

Enjoy what you have, and live every moment like it is your last. Do not hold grudges, or fuel hatred because that only leads to unhappiness. If you treat everyone like it is the last time you will see them, you will find more value in them than you ever did.

My two cents.

i'm a christian i believe in heaven and in hell...
very rarely i think about what if i don't go to heaven...and i guess the thought of going to hell is scary..
but as for thinking of dying...i'm not scared to die, i'm not scared of death and i have every confidence of going to heaven.

I believe that when you die thats it and you go six feet under or become ashes. Im not really scared of death, im more afraid of how ill die. I get flashes of seeing myself get hit head on in a car sometimes and that scares me. I also seem to think about my parents dying and what ill do without them :-(

That is not what I mean. I'll explain:

I believe that based on what evidence and basis we, the human race, have, there is no possible way for anyone to know let alone comprehend "god."
I believe that if there truly is something so vast and mighty that we are literally too stupid to understand it.
I also believe that if there is a "god," a god that is so forgiving and kind, I am safe in my beliefs of agnosticism.

Many believe that if you don't pray, if you don't have religion, then you go to hell. First off, I don't believe in a "hell."
Secondly, I go by what I said above. IF there is a god, then he will observe my actions during my life and not send me to hell.
I live a good life, I treat others kindly, I do my best to follow my morals. I do not do this for "god", I do this for myself.

I sorta said this earlier: Live each moment like you will never have it again, and live it for yourself and no one else.

I very much agree with the fact that just because I dont spend my days praising a god that if he really does exist then when it comes down to it he wont send me to hell because I was skeptical. He will see that im a good person and try to do the best. If there ends up being a hell and he sends me down there then im glad I never wasted my time.

wait i thought you were too stupid to understand god and couldn't comprehend it...so now your saying if there is you do understand and he/she/it will do "x"....
how do you know that he/she/it will do that...cause saying "will..." is comprehension and understanding if you can predict the actions?

and also you never answered my question of your conflicting statements (which the same problem reoccurred in your above quoted post)
we got you're agnostic....but do you not know what you believe or do you? cause you say both...

I'm going by the stereotypical understanding of god here. All religions believe their god is forgiving and great so I am saying that if there is one, then woohoo.

Currently, my beliefs are stated above. and I simply don't care if I go to "heaven" or "hell" 'cause I have other more important things to worry about laugh.gif

EDIT: If this answers your question, I believe that I don't know what to believe in. Take it or leave it. I really don't care.

laugh.gif my mistake. How about yours?

Does this really matter that much to you?

This is why I don't share my beliefs much, cause there are people in the world that will do everything and anything to push their opinions.

Does this kind of thing preoccupy your mind so much that you have to push it like this? I posted originally to answer the guy that began this topic that is all. If you want to have a religion war, go have one with someone who cares.

i'm not having a religion war, i'm merely trying to understand your belief better...sorry if asking questions gets you all uptight.

I kinda think that after you die... thats just kinda it... kindasad.gif

anyone ever been put under anesthesia before? Reason why I ask, is because when I was getting my wisdom teeth removed I had to be put under, and as I was breathing in the gas, everything just slowly faded out into a fuzzy darkness, and well... that was it. I was out cold. I know I wasn't dead, but in a way it kinda felt like I was about to be when everything went black and I couldn't breathe all that well (obviously b/c of the gas laugh.gif).

It was also weird waking up from anesthesia when it seemed like you were just receiving it because during that time period your body was just nothing it seems like, and then you suddenly come back.

after that experience it kinda made me feel that thats what dying might be like... You just kinda go and well... thats it, nothing happens... But keep in mind this is coming from a person who doesn't really believe in any afterlife or religion... so to me it felt like thats what happens. haha thats the best way I could explain it.

Say something pushes you in your sleep you'll wake up, right? haha not when your under anesthesia (haha I've had experience with this at work dealing with animals that have been put on the gas)... its like your dead! laugh.gif

maybe im just a baby but it felt like i was dying when it was happening to me laugh.gif

I once read something someone wrote. It goes something along the lines of, do you remember anything from when you did not exist, when you were still unborn? Well, when you die... you will just cease to exist and be nothing.

Death is like a forever sleep. When it happens its just that. Heaven and Hell comes into play with religion. Im partial to old school and Purgatory comes into play where I can repay my sins. I don't fear death, I just fear what it will do to others like my family members and very close friends. I also fear how I will die. I would like to have a painless and quick death. But we can choose how it will end.
