Sorry to all you die-hard celi fans but i have to get rid of my celica, an ~80whp car that looks fast around my area gets me no where.

I want to sacrifice the looks of a celica and go with an integra, or del sol. The aftermarket support for those "ricers" is amazing and fairly cheap. Not to mention they are honda which in my opinion can last longer than a yota, actually its probably equal.

So i went on the hunt and found the gsr or type r integra has a bite, my friend has a 4dr gs version (gs< gsr< type r) that doesnt look fast but his $1500 turbo eats most stock v6's and v8's at my school.

Im 17 and im on a pretty tight budget, but after selling my celi (if i even can) i think i can round up $4,000-$5,000. I know i could buy an integra or del sol with this but i dont wanna jump into things without getting opinions from people who know cars.

what would u do with 4-5k if u needed an import with some looks and substantial performance? No civics either laugh.gif lol (ug i could never steep that low)

pros and cons of integras would also be much appreciated.

Thanks!

p.s. when i bought my celi i was 15 and i knew nothing of performance or handling, just that it ran and it wasnt a pos. Please dont flame me for disliking their performance.

I'll tell you what I did with that amount of money...

Bought the Yelli Celi.

Seriously, why not save up some cash and pull a swap? Drop in a 4AGE 20V. They pack a serious punch. People target Hondas. They are the most commonly stolen cars and cost more to insure because of it.

Really? my friend had a stick obviously (turbo), i just guessed on the gs cause he said at the crank it makes about 140 stock, which translates to the gs or ls or soething else.

I don't think he is selling the Yelli Celi, but saying the 4age 20v would be a great swap which I would highly agree on.

Yeah, I'm confused as well. You can't spend the time or money on the celi, but you can if you get a honda? Or are you trying to find one that already has a lot of someone else's time and money dumped into it?

I would honestly like to see a honda last as long as a celi... But anyways if your spending 4-5k to find a new car. The celi would be that new car with that money put into it. I mean a 2nd gen swap could cost around 3-4k. And still have 1k to spend on other parts. Hope you get what your looking for.

I'd assume he's going to SELL the Celica...then buy a car with that money. Which is not money he'd have to do a swap.

lawl @ you all. The 20v 4AGE Silvertop is a joke, anyway. Xpander's dyno'd a whopping 114whp. Who knows what the conditions where, but that's still no where near worth it. Maybe if you pour an inordinate amount money into it, such as Coomer, it might get a few ponies.

GSR Teg would be the hands down choice if you are contemplating it. Stock for stock, and mod for mod would blow the doors off a 6th gen.

<inside joke>And Dan, at least an ITR would run again one of these days.</inside joke>

i test drove a gsr b4 i got my celica (i think it was a 99 or 00 or sumthin)

it's not bad. faster n all.. but i couldn't stand the interior... looked like it was from the 80s... but then i kind of care more about looks than speed anyway...

or u could just get a celica GT?... but then my family has never owned a car with more than 200hp... so...

cheap, fast... sounds like a dsm... laugh.gif keep the celica, save up a grand or two and you can buy a descent 2nd gen project car n go from there, while still having the good looking celica for a dd i got a semi built 95 tsi for my first dsm for 1500 and went from there, all in all spent 3k total to buy & mod the car, hit in the 12's and i had an 89 acclaim for a dd. imo, dont blow money into a car unless you are secure enough to do so (have another car, have alot of money) doesnt quite seem like your there yet, save your money and buy something nice that you will like, like a type r in great condition n go from there, seems like you like your teg's, but also seems like you prefer them due to their price for the performance, any serious aftermarket mods usually kills a cars reliability -or- drivability, have power, but only 2 throttle positions SUCK for normal driving and is only good at a strip

yea just to clear things up mynzeyes was right, AFTER i sell the celica i will have 4-5 grand.

The celica gt has a mere .2 liter difference over the st and my friends got one with a CAI and catback that runs equally with my lil st with a SRI. So thats out of the picture.

Thanks for the del sol warning tho, i didnt think it was possible to get slower than the ST.

Finaly whats a dsm and tsi?

thanks

DSM is Diamond Star Motors (Mitsubishi, Eagle, Plymouth). The Mitsubishi Eclipse is also badged as an Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser (1st Gen)

the TSi is the turbo AWD version of the Eagle Talon. Basically a cheaper Eclipse GSX.

Intergras are a good choice GSR is par to the Celica GTS stock per stock. and the GTS runs Low 15s/High 14s [great drivers] Stock. With the common mods you can get to mid 14s [good launch is a must.]

Honda = cheap parts left and right. Your choice. Me personally. Im a Toyota guy, Were finally getting rid of the only NON Toyota car in our driveway.. that damn 84 200SX.. now thats undepowered!

I would keep the Celica, but if you have to move on to something other than a Toyota get a 240SX or something. I would just do a swap though. You could do a 3sgte swap for $5k, so why buy another STOCK slow car for that $5k when you get still have something that looks hot as hell? Not to mention for someone your age, that's good experience tearing stuff apart. That's how I first learned about cars.

(Wait, you said your 17 right?)

yea 17 and the only way i can really get 5k is by selling my celi. So a swap is not any where in my future, not to mention i have an auto which wouldnt hold up at all to a 3sgte.

ah....take it manual conversion is out of the question for you? Well, the Del Sol is slow but easy as hell to do swaps on, and TARGA TOP! smile.gif Integras are the same....you could probably get a FC RX7 for under $5k (if you don't mind rotary).

kindasad.gif you really believe that? an R?

also, i fail to understand why everyone believes the 3sgte swapped celica is the end all of fwd cars. its good for 14's at best, jeff's hit the 13's but his mod list is pretty expensive, including good tires. I don't think the swap is in his budget. If he's looking for a car to mod cheaply, by all means a Honda is probably the more practical choice.

personally i agree with playr. i haven't ever seen a jdm type r and i don't think i would own a teg without doing the front end conversion. but i would still rather have a 6gc over the teg. i just see way too many suped up hondas. that is one of the things that i love about our cars. its diff. i get head turns all the time in mine and i don't have any exterior mods done to it. it just looks amazing. you wouldn't ever really get that from any honda unless it is like a s2k or nsx.
ya it is slow and also even with the swap it isn't "lightning Fast" but who cares? if you want a really quick car then go drop a buttload of money for one. i don't care if my car can be smoked by a teg. mine looks better and much more original.
to me all tegs and civics all look alike. i like to stand out.

Answer: buy some OEM side skirts and install them and buy a nice set of wheels. You'll probably want new springs and shocks as well.

Its not that bad having a 6gc. You make it seem like you walked into something that you wish you hadn't. Embrace what this community has to offer and take advantage of good deals in the B/S forum and you'll be set.

I guess it all comes down to where your priorities are. If you want a fast car first, and make it look nice later then save up for an engine swap. It doesn't matter if you have an auto (aside from having to install a clutch pedal) because if you were to buy a 3S, 4A 20V, etc. you would be getting (hopefully) a manual transmission with it.

Likewise, if you want to have a nice looking car before fast then start with the basics. Start off with some wheels and tires. Then invest in some springs and shocks. Just hit things up one by one.

Don't look at the whole picture right now. Just pick a spot to start and take it step by step. smile.gif

My celi just gets hated on alot, i won slowest and worst car at school, and its not cause people hate me, its just cause celicas have a terrible rep around here for being bug eyed raised versions of a civc, except the civic can beat it.

IMO they are wrong because civics have less displacement and are boxy but i cant change the minds of 3/4 of my school...

I still love my car but until i get rims and a lip kit im really discouraged with it.

Buy a GT4 Front end conversion. you will impress the people in school.

"aww the hood is soo cool"
"Is that a real GT4?"
"No, just a look alike, but the vents really do cool my engine bay"

Why are you getting a car to impress your school? Your 17 right? Which means your only there for another year about. I think if you like your Celica that is all that matters, and you shouldn't change what you drive just to make other people happy.

so you may have an auto and sure it may be slow. but does everyone else at your school have an interior that looks like that? hell i'd love to have that in my car. I'm only 18 by the way. but trust me. down the road you're gonna appreciate the reliability and dependability of the celi. I'm keeping my ST until it runs into the ground. then i'm gonna swap it and do it all over again. lol.

Dude take it from me..Everybody at my school loved the look of my car.Dont worry about the outside of your car.Especially in high school my car got beat to hell. I even parked across the street some times to keep the kids in cars away from me. Save your cash. and tell your freinds to suck it. My best freind in school had a 550 horsepower Grand National complete domestic kid ad when i told him i was thinking about selling it. He said I would never find a nicer looking car body style wise And he would start calling me a ricer. All hondas got on us are that they can Start there on fads because there are so many of them. Arounds here rattle can spray jobs and colored wheels are the ****...I think it just looks like there driving around some car i drew and colored in the 2nd grade. Dont fall into the honda craze. All the cleanlooking tegs and civics look the same just differnt paint and wheels(somtimes) To me JDM is the new rice.

A Honda isn't really gonna rid you of negative attention...a modified one anyway. Thieves tend to target modded Hondas, as do cops. With my Del Sol, I spent a good 20 hours installing a crazy alarm setup, but I still worry about it getting stolen with a tow truck or something everytime I leave it somewhere (like in my locked garage). kindasad.gif

As far as negative attention from haters, don't worry about them. Build your car for you. If you're really set on turning heads, the cheaper route is probably a drop, wheels, and sideskirts. The Celica is pretty unique compared to Civics and Integras...especially a modded Celica...and it looks great IMO. I bought a Honda, and I miss having a really nice looking car. Everyone I knew loved my car, and couldn't believe I sold it for a "ugly" and "girly" Del Sol. wink.gif

Oh and by the way, most Honda swaps aren't really cheap either if you're thinking of buying a Honda and then building it. wink.gif

Red, I know what your problem is power-wise. From 94 and earlier, the 7AFE engine had little on it to restrict it's true power which is about 115 hp. However from 95 and later, they dumbed down the 7AFE engine for emissions reasons. Which leaves it around 100 hp or so. Since you have a 95 you will probably feel a little slower than someone with an earlier model. Just some facts for ya.

i think you should do what i am going to do. first just worry about the looks of the car. right now i'm focusing on making my car stand out by it's looks. front lip, spoiler, soon i will add the rear splitters, tint, new rims. than after you have paid off your car (or sooner if you can) take out another loan for a swap. personally i want to stay n/a so i want a 3sge. still has plenty of guts and it's a little less money if you go to the right place. you can get a 5th gen 3sgte for a decent price as well. personally your car stands out more than any civic and honda. the looks of our car is amazing and you don't hardly ever see them.
do what you want but i think that you will be happier with the celi in the long run.

stick with the 6g. i love my car because its more unique than most cars on the road and because its not a tuner car. speed is overrated. i have an auto st too, and im at a mile in elevation. trust me, i wish it was faster, but its not something i cant deal with. i work at a dealership and have driven many different kinds of cars and i can safely say the 6g feels better built and has an interior that is miles ahead (in terms of design and materials) of lots of cars, hell even more expensive, newer ones. i have yet to find a car in the same price range i would trade it for. its made me appreciate my car. not to mention, with wheels and a drop, it will turn heads like no other car in its class. another reason i love the 6g is the gtfour. obviously, we cant get them, but you can make it look like one relatively easily. i mean, you can buy jdms, projectors, gtfour exterior and you have a completely different looking car that people have no idea what it is. most cars dont have that clean OEM option that dramatically changes the look of the car like the 6g does. most have to resort to aftermarket altezza tails and gaudy body kits. not to mention, if you want speed, its just a swap away, and there are many engines that work.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

sounds like you're wanting to get rid of it for all the wrong reasons. other people dont think its cool...so you wanna get rid of it????PLEASE, seriously, there is more out there than what the other people at your HIGH SCHOOL think. you say they don;t research anything and yet you want to impress them......get some new friends and stay with the celica for a DD, if you want power get an old chevy v8 muscle car, those are CHEAP and easy to find parts for..........seriously, be original, and don't do things because other people think its cool, do it because YOU think it's cool. BUT if you well it and get something else do it because its a better vehicle, not because your buddys want you too. I have a friend with a boosted 240sx that breaks all the time. he wants me to get one when my car has had normal probs with it and i get better milege, and it still turns heads because i dont have big dumb chrome wheels like everyone else in my town

get headers and a exhaust system, that will hide the noise of the lifters and your engine will sound like is high performance ( won't perform like that )

what tick are you guys talking about? I got alike 100000000000000000 of them....commin out of everywhere (might be a personal problem)

But yea, no matter what kinda car you get for 4k people are gonna be raggin on ya, and you live in NY...state known for their ****TY cab drivers....man, just stick with celli and save up buy new gear...dont worry about the look of it, worry about the brains....I personally dont mind a slow car...i want it to look clean and nice...thats why i spent 200 on new interior parts (used, new for me and not cracked) and it looks 100 times better.... but start slow (unlike me, that started 10 different projects at once) there is no rush...

ive never even been in a cab lol, i live in albany not the big city. NY is a ***tty state for tuning and respectable cars. most cars up here are just rust buckets with snow tires mounted on all the time.

No celicas here either, only one other 6th gen at my school and he went to another state to buy it. Ive never seen one on the road, only one parked at a local golf course once and it was a yellow st that was highly not cared for.

Please dont flame me for disliking their performance.

were in albany are you? i went to U.Albany.

regardless of the path you choose, think about it first. if you sell your celica, don't spend your cash on a del sol or an integra. put a down payment on something nicer. if you don't sell your celica, save up some cash and work the motor. the celica engine bay is really easy to work on, it's not tight and cramped like a honda. there is alot of potential with a 6gc.
