So today i was on my way home from work when I heard a loud tapping sound coming from the engine and I think I've got a valve tapping kindasad.gif . . Its a tapping sound that is only present when accelerating and right at start up. I'm going to drop it off at my mechanic tomorrow to get his opinion on it.

...So, what will I likely be looking at as far as fixing this issue? Am i correct in assuming that the head will have to come off? Damnt this sucks, all I want to do is go for a drive frown.gif

Mech. thinks it might be a connecting rod bearing kindasad.gif . How hard is a job like this, i know you would have to drop the oil pan etc..? or what should i expect to pay a mechanic to do it? ballpark figures OK wink.gif

If it is rod knock then you would be better off getting an entire rebuild. Chances are that if one is knocking then you have crank damage and will have to remove the engine from the car. Might be cheaper to get a rebuilt or low mileage engine instead.

frown.gif . Right now im in college, and this year I think im going to be leaving my car at home for the school year. Would it be OK to drive around like this for a couple thousand miles, basically just until summer is over? I know thats a pretty hard question to answer since you can't physically see/hear the sound, but it does it periodically throughout the rpm range. Its kinda weird that it doesn't do it "all" the time. Thanks in advance wink.gif
