I think I am ready for a new job. I've been a cashier at a grocery store for almost 2 years. I make 8.14 an hour. I work about... get ready... 12 hours a week. It is hilarious.

I need a good part-time job that can get me through college.

I need 25-30 hours a week.

What should I do?

Those of you who are in college, what are you doing about this?

Those of you who have grad, what are you doing?

Insight please.

Thanks guys

i take 18 credit hours, so i just dont worry about a job.... thats what summer is for. depending how many hours and how hard your classes are, 20-30 hours may be way too many. 12-15 doesnt sound bad

i am not taking too many credits so i have a full time job. but if you want to take a lot of credits than 10-20 hrs is plenty and try to get student loans and government grants for college. scholarships are allways nice too.

a bunch of my friends deliver pizza. They get $7.50 an hour (minimum wage in california), plus about $3-5 in tips every delivery, and the shop gives them $1 for every delivery they make. They say, each delivery is only like 5 or 6 miles round trip, and, since they have imports, the $1 more than covers gas. They make like 1 or 2 deliveries an hour. so they are making like $11.50-13.50 an hour, sometimes more if they get good tips. the hours are only like 5pm til like 9:30 pm 3-5 days a week too.

me personally, I just quit my job as a grocery store bagger making $8.39/hour (topped out, that was the most I could make until I turned 18 and could get a promotion to a different department, and even then I would get .01 an hour more for another 4-5 months) so I got a job at america's tire co./discount tire making $9/hour to start. I'm taking 11 units and plan on working like 32 hours a week. one semester I took 12.5 units and worked 32-36 hours a week, and all the classes were hard with like 2-3 hours of homework a week for 3 of my 4 classes; that was a bad idea! I was so stressed all the time, it was no fun, I don't recommend it.

I work full time AND go to school... what now?!!

Telemarketing businesses are always looking to hire new blood.. I mean employees, I would look into that... I mean, you will probably hate your work and want to die, but money is money.

Congrats on the new job. 12 hours a week was ridiculous! I work at a supermarket called Publix in Miami. I roughly make 7.25/hr. 30 hours a week. I can barely pay my bills. Insurance is kind of high. I'm going to community college so it's not gonna be expensive. I hate the job, to much labor.

Exactly, too much work for the pay. I do and know enough at my job to make a couple bucks more but i don't cause they are all about saving money.

I pretty much sit in a camera room and watch people that come into the store. If they look sketchy, have stolen before, or I just don't trust them I follow them with the cameras. If I see them take something I then go after them. Its a fun job but sometimes we can get some people that are on drugs or that do not want to be caught at any cost. But Sears is a good company man they give good benefits, let you make your own hours, and you wear what you want (except shorts), because you have to fit in with the crowd you work with.

Wearing your brakes, I would assume. Why?

Also, I would be worried about using my own car to, since I have high mileage and I don't want to add excessive miles, I also applied at Autoparts and Papajohns. So I hope AAP comes through, or I'm going to be delivering pizzas in my car.

well, in those few seconds of starting your car, it puts more wear on the engine then several hundred miles of freeway driving. make sure you do your oil changes as if under "severe" conditions as the owner's manual calls it. Which, for our cars is ever 3750 miles, but I'd do it every 3000 just to be safe. other than that, you''ll be going through brakes, tires, sprark plugs, and practically everything faster than before.

thats alls well cause i need to do sparks and brakes soon enough.

besides im gettin around 50 in tips each shift, infact this week i will have made about 250 which is more than twce what i made in a week at my old job.

anyway, im comfortable at jasons deli right now, and when i go off to college in another city, ill probably get a more...serious job

I already change my oil every 3k wink.gif

oh just rememberd that when I start my car, the oil light stays on for about 5-10 seconds and then flickers off... just wondering if that was normal.

anyway, thanks for the input guys

yep, that's normal. the airbag light should do it too, though it might only do that after you have disconnected the battery, I can't remember.

Hey, how much miles are you adding per like week delivering?

I ask because I just applied at Papajohns and I'm going to consider using my car for the job.

So far, with two days of driving, i put about 100 each day i worked and that was a double.

So I guess a single, 4-6 hour shift would put around 50 on your car, and a double puts around 100... of course I am doing driving in downtown humble and i have to go on some deliveries 10 miles away.

I did a bunch of calculations and i should be making a net of 8k a year, which isn't bad for a freshman in college working 20-24 hours a week.

Not bad. If I get the job at AAP and Papajohns, I'll work all 3 jobs. Those two jobs and my current one so, I don't know. No days off but I really, reaaaally need cash.

I will probably be putting like 80 miles a day. going to each job and deliveries, since all 3 jobs are close to each other.
