Its pretty much MORE difficult then swapping in a 3sgte. You have to make sure you have the head and block combo that work along with a entire wire harness settup allowing everything to read properly. A 5sgte is a good build but isnt a plug and play settup. It requires alot of time/effort and planning, as much if not more so then a direct 3sgte swap.

See above incase you ment 5sge also.

Yes you can swap the head onto a 5sfe block. Like I said in the first comment, it will cost you as much if not more to do the swap. Its pretty much a 3sgte swap excluding a 3sgte block.

(not trying to pop your bubble)

Don't do it just for a coolness factor (not saying that you are), but like 1bwilson said, it's gonna require some very special attention, hard work, and cash.

This type of build would benifit better if it has a lot of cash backing it up.

Plenty of people have done (more camrys/ mr2s than celica folk)

If you REALLY_REALLY want to do it then research-research-research before you buy-buy-buy. It's an awesome build and a labor of love. Just have it all planned out with facts backing it up and good-luck.

If it starts to make your head hurt, jst swap a 3s in! biggrin.gif

Good luck with your desicion!

Hey rickycillo

Just checked out your profile, do you have a 5s-fte?

Let me ask something. I about to swap my 5sf to the 3s.
Once the swap is complete, lets say I blow the motor, like crack the block or something like that.
How much more work would it be to replace the 3s block with the 5f.
Cause in that case I would not get rid of the 5sfe.

Only some 5sfe blocks match up to 3sgte heads. You would have to do some research to ensure you have the right combo. With that said, if you try to toss in a 5sfe block after you have already worked the kinks out of a 3s swap and wireing I would say you should have less headaches then someone w/o already doing the 3sgte swap before hand. The 5s block built for boost is like a stroked 3sgte block. You just have to make sure you have valve clearence and all the water jackets match up. There is much more to it then those 2 examples but they are a good idea of what kinds of things youll deal with.

Im buiding/built a 5sfe to run boost on, block is built for boost with 8.5:1 pistons with 3sgte rods already. If I run into issues with the 5sfe head I plan on going the 5sgte route also.

I would keep the 5sfe period, so that just in case (heaven forbid) you blow up the entire 3s you would have a back up.

When you do the swap, compare the 3s head gasket to the 5s block. Everything should match, the only thing that might mot would be the water jackets, and that's a simple thing to fix.

What transmission are you gonna use? if you stick with your 5s's tranny then no problem if you have to swap the blocks in the future. If you're gonna use the 3s's then you will have to swap back to the 5s's if you swap blocks. (unless you fabricate an adapter, don't know yet if that would work though, just rambling abit)

In other words, just keep the 5s. It looks cool sitting in a garage biggrin.gif
