I just read this whole thing on CelicaTech about replacing the stock TB w/a larger one for increased airflow. It seemed to make sense, but I know nothing about this stuff. Here's the link for anyone interested in the thread.

Have any of you done this, and does it really make any little difference at all? Or is it just stupid?

Edit: I should specify, I'm inquiring about this for an n/a engine, not a turbo

hmm from what i've seen (i've been here a long time) no one here has swapped out the 7afe throttle body for another one.

From my opinion about the 7afe throttle swap is kinda pointless. you might beable to get 1hp more and a better throttle response but its alot of work. There is no direct swap that i know of. Even if you manage to get a adapter to work you still have to deal with the throttle position sensor/ throttle cable/ vacuum lines/ and coolant lines. To be more specific the coolant lines are used to keep the throttle warm so it doesnt freeze open/closed during winter driving.

The reason why you wont get much HP out of a throttle swap in the 7afe is because the 7afe does not flow enough air to need a bigger throttle. The narrow head design and economy camshafts are the biggest restrictions in the 7afe.

I'd just find(or get made) some individual throttle bodies if i was to go that route with my car personally.... kinda like Hanyo was saying, really only gonna gain throttle response without changing out some other things as well which, will make it kind of a P.I.T.A.

I have done custom ITBs on a B16B, and I can say for sure... it will be almost impossible to tune on the stock computer.

My opinion of throttle bodies, unless the engine is running out of breath (you can tell on a dyno), opening up the intake won't do very much. I think it's more hassle than it's worth. Unless you throw in some cams, open up the intake ports, throw in come bigger valves, it won't do very much.
