make sure you do A LOT of prep work before you take it there...remove your headlights, bumper markers, tails ect.. cause they won't do it.
If you know how to sand prep your car I'd suggest that as well.

X2 I'd like tpo know the price you're paying. Not trying to thread jack or anything but I sanded my entire car by hand, is that okay for prep?

cool
so your getting the basecoat clearcoat 1300$ paintjob?
for the silver, that would definetly be your best bet.
if not, your wasting money on anything but the cheapest paint job they sell. all the other single stage paint jobs are the same, just a matter of adding clear to it.
like dan said, remove your tails when you get to the shop, pull off the mudgaruds, ect.
if you dont know how to sand a car properly, your prolly better off leaving it, to be honest.
INSIST your car is painted "bumper off"
its the only way to do it, and get proper coverage.
good luck.

You don't have to but maaco saves time and money by masking everything that's not supposed to be painted (sidemarkers, trim, ect..) instead of removing it. The main reason that they get a bad rep is a lack of prep work so the more you do yourself the better off you'll be.

NOOOOOO
dont go to new bedford.
they are THE WORSE maaco in the NE area. (trust me, we have been re-painting all the NB cabs that the NB store originally did.
drive the extra 15 min to fall river, and i will take care of your car.
wink.gif
better yet, call maaco in fall river, and speak with tim (the owner) or butch (shop manager) tell them manny sent you, and i personally will paint your car.
check out dustins (batman722)car for my work wink.gif

ok so we have a few progress pics.
smile.gif
once we took the paint off this area, (i dont know if kevin did this bodywork or not, but it wasnt the greatest)we found some "bondo" style brand bondo, over an inproperly preped surface, so our shop manager butch worked his magic on this and a few other areas that needed a bit of work. (we have been down a bodyman due to the flu the past couple days..lol luckily our shop manager has 25+ yrs bodywork experience. wink.gif )

IPB Image
old filler stripped of, and preped.

IPB Image
after a coat of filler, a bit of shaping and a coat of evercoat (finishing putty) its ready to be blocked and primed.

bumper off is the only way to paint the 6gc. this is a spot where you can normally save a little bit of money by removing and reinstalling this kind of stuff, doorhandles, lights ect yourself, keith decided to let us do it.

IPB Image
IPB Image

welded center post wing hole

IPB Image

filled, ready to block and prime

IPB Image

tails out and wing holes:

IPB Image

overall, other than the passanger side damage, and small dent up on the passanger fender, the car is in pretty clean shape, a few small door dings on the passanger side, i could only find one on the drivers side.

IPB Image

we finished sanding the car in the afternoon (pics of that tommorow)
tommorow, it will be finish preped, masked, and painted.
more pics to come!

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

the car has been painted!
I taped the car up first thing this AM, and we had our resident pro, billy-bob (AKA ernie) shoot the paint. he's been painting FOREVER, and can lay it down smooth and shiney.
smile.gif

first a couple pics of it masked:

IPB Image

IPB Image

then, once its in the booth, and given a final blow down, prep wash, and tacking, a nice even coat of sealer:

IPB Image

IPB Image

then a few coats of some sherman williams "ultra 7000" toyota paint code 199 alpine silver metallic basecoat:

then, once that setup up a bit, the clear:

IPB Image

IPB Image

this is a close up of the hood. if you look close, you can see the reflection of ernies guns in the rack, kinda gives you an idea of how flat it is.

a few others:

we'll let it sit over the weekend and finish curing, and monday we'll reassemble it.

I'm so jealous... it looks great! To know, my car could look like that too... it gives me hopes, dreams, aspirations...

which paint job is that? I know there are a few different levels... and why do you remove the door handles? Mine are silver, do you paint them separately or just skip them altogether? And for that matter, how do you remove them? My driver's one is kinda loose and I'd love to tighten it.

you have to take the door panel off and there should be one or two bolts that hold it on

this is maacos best paint job they sell.
the doorhandles were taken out because if you look at them on your car, you'll notice they have a little black plastic trim around it, we dont want to paint that.
99% of maaco customers dont want to pay for all the extra work to have a car done like this.

thanks guys!

Not to be a b*tch but its called a door trim, not a panel (panel is on the outside of the car), I know i get technical but its just one of those things , same thing when ppl call it BONDO even if thats not the brand they use. Its Fill ppl lol, not bondo.

Other than that, thats the first paint job i've ever seen from Macco that looked that good. Congratz on the new clothes for the gal wink.gif and i like the color!

the car didnt have a drivers side marker light in when he brought it in, so thats why its not in the pics.

I read a member talkin about using a "armour coat" or something like that this way the paint wno't chip when you're going higher speeds for example doing 70 on the freeway. Did you guys do anything like that to?

i havent heard of what your talking about.
if your talking about "chipgaurd" along the bottoms of the car, then no, there was none, other than the factory undercoating, and he did not request us to chipgaurd the bottoms of the rockers, like you see on a lot of stock cars, so we didnt do it.
for those wondering what "chipgaurd" is, you can find more info on it here:
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...read&st=100

and yes, it does work. very well actually. i still have no chips in my wheelwells, or on the lower section of the skirts and extensions.

thats a "supra style" wing.

Thanks Manny, thats what I thought, I couldn't tell for sure because of the angle. I have actually always liked the look of the supra wing, and if you check out my profile, you'll see that I plan on getting one someday.

i actually have one sitting in the garage if your interested... wink.gif

I'm tempted to take you up on your offer, but I'm just not in a position financially to buy anything right now (unless you're willing to give me one heck of a deal rolleyes.gif ).

oh man thats beautiful!!!
my car needs some paint and probably could use a reduction in dent count haha.
i'd take mine to maaco but knowing manny isn't working in phoenix i doubt i will.
now i just have to go through the task of weeding through shady shops for quality craftsmen and find one that has good business morales. (not some kid named Morales) laugh.gif

great work Manny!!
