Does anybody know what color wires are the horn wires in the steering column? Specifically the (+) that actually runs to the horn and powers it?

On http://www.toyotacelicaonline.com/stereo.htm it says "Horn (Relay)-GRN (-)AT STEERING COLUMN" if that helps any?
Also see http://www.toyotacelicas.com/forums/index....showtopic=12599 which also says for 6th gen, juice is green wire in steering column. Maybe look for black wiring that connects from a brass ring to horn switch pads. (3rd gen though) This post has been edited by GriffGirl: Feb 8, 2008 - 12:47 PM -------------------- ![]() |

Just green? Not green with some line or dash or anything?
That first link was for a 5th gen but the the second link shows several gens and the 6th gen apears to be green also. Also it says horn (-) relay - can anybody shed any further light on this ? I'm sorta newbish about horn wiring and I'm scared I'm gonna blow the airbag. ![]() Thanks Griffgirl - you rock. can't you disconnect the airbag relay under the hood so that doesn't happen?

Funny that you should say that - Take a look at the pics below and you will see that the yellow cable connection is completely disconnected. Now I'm obviously no expert in Steering Column wiring but everytime I have seen a yellow cable or wires wrapped in yellow wire loom - that means airbag wiring. I first noticed this when I was installing various short shifter in various Celica's and MR2's. No matter what gen/model it was - yellow always means air bag [which to me means "DON'T TOUCH!!!"]. Further evidence of this can be found in the yellow cable behind the pass side low beams and high beams - that comes from the collisions sensors in the front bumper area [BTW - WTF is with all these people - overseas mainly - calling bumpers "bumbers"? - is some kind of inside joke?]. I think we've all seen the ones running past the shifter assembly, safely tucked in their own plastic guide/armour.
A little more history - when I got this car it had no pass airbag [which I'm cool with cause I have a killer idea what I'm gonna mount there - but that's a story for another day], no rear seat belts and no 5MPH crash bar so obviously safety was not a factor with one of the two previous owners [not talking smack on you guys - we all had our dream for this car]. And now I'm 99% sure the drivers side bag is disconnected as well. W/e - I can deal with it [they never go off anyway - I've had my last '99 spin off the road, fly over a 4' deep ditch and nosedive into the crest of the ditch on the other side causing 6K in damages to the front end and 3 of the knuckels - basically ripped the front two off and my drivers side rear had so much negative camber a drifter would say that's a little superfluous] Anywho - here are the pics: Underneath the naked steering column: ![]() from Pass side [Note the disconnected yellow plugs]: ![]() and from drivers side: ![]() And here is a view down into the space between the front bumper and the radiator upper support. To the right you can see the freon canister and all of this is directly behind the Drivers side high beam: ![]() see that loose connector? i suspect it was meant to hook up to another connector that had wires to the stock horn. This was were the connector was for my '99 except it had another one on the pass side cause it had dual horns. Does anyone know for sure if that what that is? It appears to have only a red wire and a red/white wire with grey dashes but I can ony see about an inch of it. Would this be the horn out put after the relay? And to let you know what I'm doing - I wired the new horn directly to the battery to a switch underneath the steering column and back to the front to the horn. I want to eliminate as much wiring as possible and I for sure don't want a ghetto setup where I gotta hit a switch to honk my horn. the horn switch works cause I can hear it click [my volts meter is at the casa so I want to get as many informed answers before get there and get stuck with no 6GC.net support. -------------------- ![]() ENGINE: '93 RC 3S-GTE/WRC CT-20b [18-20PSI] PERF: TRD/HKS/ARP/NGK/MSD/ACT/Blitz/STRI/APEX'i/TwosRus/GReddy/Magnaflo/KOYO SUSP: Tein/Bilstein/SusTech/ INT: SS-III SEATS/Toyota Hyper Sports EXT: WRC/TRD/404 Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them. QUOTE(DEATH @ Feb 11, 2008 - 7:42 AM) [snapback]640247[/snapback] Out of all the experts on here - no one can help me out? Humm... Just ran out to my car... And i have one of those pluged into my highbeam, but not the same wire colors... HOWEVER!! remember i drive a wrecked special... Now that i've looked at it... My horn is grounded and there are at least 3 segments of wire electrical taped together inline leading into my firewall... WITH the one hooked to the horn being the same color red you've got there and a piece of (blue) *speaker* wire grounding it... So i'm guessing red may be positive for the horn; with the 'red white and black dashed' one being the ground for the horn. Or maby my schett is just all screwed up... Looks like someone's been jerry rigging my car up before they sold it to me...... Looks like i'm doing an electrical inspection this weekend... (would explain why the hazards & power mirrors don't work) This post has been edited by D-Man: Feb 11, 2008 - 10:00 AM -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! for under the column, use the green wire from the grey connector. The loose plug, I don't know. I'll try to look under my hood today.

Thanks guys. The green wire shows constant voltage tho so that is (+) in to the switch [and every other control on the steering column] and IDK if it's cause it's swapped but I can not find the green with red wire the Chilton's manual says it should be. I did find a red with green stripe but it shows constant 12v too so that can't be it.
Does anyone know for sure if the wiring diagram says g/r would that def be a green wire with red stripe or could it also be a red wire with green stripe? Also can I power the horn without the relay or should I really be looking for the wire after the #1 fuse panel under the hood where the relay is? This was an early swap so the wiring is barely functional and almost none of the accessories worked when I got her. I rebuilt the engine and for the last month or so I've just been going over every bolt and wire trying to make her as stock as poss. After that, and I'm sure she runs right, then I'll worry about cranking the boost up to stock [want to upgrade the engine safety stuff first - wideband o2, EGT, Oil Pressure, new knock sensor etc.] I want this car to be treated like she deserves. -------------------- ![]() ENGINE: '93 RC 3S-GTE/WRC CT-20b [18-20PSI] PERF: TRD/HKS/ARP/NGK/MSD/ACT/Blitz/STRI/APEX'i/TwosRus/GReddy/Magnaflo/KOYO SUSP: Tein/Bilstein/SusTech/ INT: SS-III SEATS/Toyota Hyper Sports EXT: WRC/TRD/404 Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them.
