don't worry if someone else consider it rice or not, if you like it then go for it.

it's your car. build it to your taste.

Very true. Car is you. Make your car what you want to be.

However, it is pretty rice smile.gif And your car would some serious body kit to pull that decal off. That's my opinion, though, and as such worth exactly 2 cents.

Ricer is short for "Rice Burner" Implying that our little Japanese cars run on rice instead of gasoline.

Guy; I say you do what you want to your car. And if someone calls you any names (ex: Ricer) Then you call them a &$^#%er! wink.gif

joe's definition of rice:

An overly retrad looking import with upgrades such as a loud and obnoxious "fart can" a whale tail...such as a huge spoiler, crazy looking retarted decals (not sayin yours is crazy or retatred) 3 plastic spinners with 1 spoke broken off so it doesnt spin, a couple different colored body pannels, a head light out/and/or a tail light and an asshole behind the wheel that thinks its the greatest and fastest car and drives with his ego

now this brings up a WHOLE big debate on what is and is not rice....most people will say that my car is rice...because its an import...which i guess i can see why they would say that....now there is rice on this forum and there is not....in my oppinion i dont think my car is very ricey....a very clean(for instance) acura integra with jdm lips a nice clean paint job, a nice leather interior and some nice rims would not be classified in my book as rice....just like lagos's celica and pressure 2's and defgeph's celicas...most of the stuff on their cars is jdm and came from the factory/or were factory options offered in japan...such as the gt-4 front end conversion that everyone likes to do....i think that a clean honda hatch with jdm options on it is also not rice....now either way you can make your car more or less ricey...i think that there is a fine line between rice and a nice clean import.....another example would be the vdubs...i absoutly love them and with the factory options you can get for them you can make em look really nice...but then you have your muscle car guys as in (myself) who will call it rice as with any other import....so basically its a matter of looks...in my oppinon i just like to keep my cars either USDM or JDM with a few exceptions here and there...nothing to flashy or wetated lookin hangin off the back...i hope that gives you a better understanding of rice and clean imports.... thumbsup.gif

This is my old celica. I have never ever received one negative comment about my decal. As a matter of fact I would see people pause what they are doing and follow my car with their heads with admiration. I drove in around college for 4 years with people often telling me how cool it looked
IPB Image

edit: I am so happy with design that I am incorporating it into my ongoing celica project

Let me explain something. You can stack 25 cars with various modifications and invite 10000 people to vote on cars. There will be people who like original design, there will be people who like jdm look, there will be people who like old school look, there will be people who like exotic look. So there will never be one answer.

You are modifying your car to your liking and let me tell you something. Providing you do not make a wrong decision you should end up with a very successful design.
Do some photoshopping and or paintshopping.. match colors and find what dragon will look the best
Ie black with yellow looks crazy but yellow car with black decal looks too dark and does not stand out as much making it a blur. Toxic lime with grey would not be noticable but silver car with say.. a carbon fiber decal of same dragon or something brighter than black would look really really good.

i really like the Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement definition...it says it all !!! as for the styling i have 17" wheels, tires, springs, struts, subs, tint all coming when the weather gets warmer...April or May kindasad.gif . i am still just thinking about it and it's only a photochop. yarik the decal on your old celi gives me a real-world idea, thanks.

I'm going to repeat what everyone else is saying, cause it's the truth. Do what you think would look good. There's always going to be people that will like, and don't like your car. So the important thing is if you can step back, look at your car and smile and nod your head in approval. On my second car (a crx), this is what I did to the hood; mainly just for the experience of painting custom designs on my own, but I thought it came out pretty well (crappy pic, and it's not washed. Trust me, it did look better than that) wink.gif :

i also like the Racing Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements definition.

If it looks fast and isnt, its rice.
If its trying to be something its not, its rice.

thats subtle enough to not be too ricey in my opinion.

i like it!

front needs a lip, or some splitters though if your going to do decals... maybe even get some rear extensions, have to keep the body of the car in tune with the paint/visual

like putting alot of graphics and crazy paint on a stocked out car, it looks bad and ricey. add some subtle and clean mods - front lip/splitters + rear extensions, gives your car a more aggressive stance so to say, and therefore works with the graphics.

I voted, yes it is too ricey. But if you like it then get it. That's what I say. I must be into rice too, because in my opinion, anything other than the lips and gt4 looks rice to me. People on here make exceptions or don't say anything regarding the invader front ends and such, but those look just as rice as a blitz front end would look. But you know what? OH well. Do what you want. Some of us are rice, and cannot be helped.

I agree... Some subtle body mods (and some nice rims) would make that decal look great.

The question i will have to myself is, would i get mad if somebody says a bad comment about my car.

I really like it. i would not put it in my car, because sometimes i am sensitive to comments.

I would really aprecciate if people will keep these kind of comments to themselves. but this is not how the world goes.

If you like it, want it and dont care what others say, and some people will talk (human nature) I would put it on.

My problem is i dont qualify to tolerate. i would say go for it. Its your style. Your personal signature.

Can I just ask a questions?--why blue? I think a gun-metal grey would look nicer and match the silver better.
Also, will that be a decal, you should see if you can find someone to airbrush it on your car.
Personally, I think it's pretty neat and it does match the theme of Celica (dragon) although, I wouldn't do it for my car, it'll make your car stand out more though.
Hope all goes well man, can't wait to see it at the Sherbrooke meet!

blue, 'cus the interior and the lighting (courtesy lights, instrument panel bulbs, sub box lights is/will be blue). i would no doubt look to have it airbrushed and top-coated. it will not be done for this summer. i may do it when i get the car re-painted professionally next summer('09). it has a DIY paintjob on it now that i did in '06.

thanks for all the replies and the comments. that is why i post here...honest, simple and fair. i may have skewed the results by using the word RICE in my post. i realize i shouldn't pre-judge my own work. i have come to think that decals or air brushing is best left for professionals-- people who compete in shows, body shop reps and heavy modders with more talent and money than me. you are all great "friends" to have and i consider 6gc.net a well mannered "family".

X2 this is exactly what i was going to say. Everyone is different and you cant please everyone, there is always something on our cars that someones not going to like or flame, and if you try to please everyone its not going to work. Your car is your way of expressing yourself, not what everyone thinks it should look like.. IMO I would rather small decals (like 6gc) on my windows to represent, or have a body image airbrushed, but not all of us have that kind of cash, so go for the decal if thats what YOU WANT, dont worry if some ppl dont like it, cause its only our oppinions, not yours. Let us know what you do, and if you do choose to do so, pics and what you choose to put on.

Cheers, Feen

I don't think it really matches your car color. Mind you this is coming from someone with a vinyl dragon on his own car. My car is yellow so a black dragon seemed like a simple choice for me. I'm liking it for now but not sure if I will get tired of it or not in the future. Can't find a pic but i'll post one soon.
