Its actually my friends 98 celica GT, but since he doesnt know anything about it or much about cars in general, i joined on here because his car shares the same engine as my camry does so i know a few things...

its in need of some real professional help... he bought the car for less than 5k, has dropped cut factory springs, factory shocks... the brakes master cylinder sounds like its failing and biting the dust, cheap exhaust tipped muffler with the factory intake cut in half with a crappy cone filter stuck on there with big fuel injectors, no idea what size but bigger than factory.

what does everyone think of it?

Granted i wouldn't have that paint on MY car tongue.gif , lol. But Most of you would roll with my paint job on your cars. Nor vice versa.

Looks... Really Interesting Madawg0, Really interesting... Different, but uh- ....... Interesting......

Why would he upgrade his injectors? It doesnt sound like he's controlling them with anything. And yeah, the paint is horrendous.

He is already considering getting rid of that paint job.

How rare are the vert's? I have only ever seen one here in NZ and we have a lot of 6 g celicas around here.

well, make sure that the clutch is fine..it is a decently old car n you dont know what kinda person was driving the celi..check for leaks, broken/failing pumps, belts, timing belt, gaskets, (leak down test for headgasket, visual expection of valve cover gasket) brakes!, (check pads/rotors for wear)

doesnt really have to check the headgasket, just what i would do cuz i have bad luck with em..people charge alot for these things sometimes :\

just check everything, make sure its running fine, and then he can see what he can do to upgrade n modify.

smile.gif

if he's fine with the paint, he can wait, or he can just sand it down and flat black that baby biggrin.gif

is he on the forums yet?

Since it's a 98, it should have a metal head gasket, so really it should be fine. He really should join the forum if he wants to know about his car. 9 times out of 10, the convertible top wont work anymore electronically. It's a common problem on the convertibles, but has an easy fix. The previous owner seemed to have no idea what they were doing with the car, but it seems like nothing terribly unreversible was done to the car, so that's a good sign. So tell your friend good luck with the car and hope it has a better life with him.

ah hah, I thought so... the neighborhood looks like Cazadero Heights

anyway, there are different theories on this. Some people say that the thicker wires will hold a better load resistance. I asked around about this before I replaced my wires, including a few Toyota Techs. The general consensus was that Toyotas like factory specs, and as such there was no benefit to increasing the wire gauge (on a stock engine). OEM brand for our wires is Denso - you can get them, but they'll run you more than NGK, which is actually the exact same manufacturer.

I found my NGK wires on Amazon for $23 less than Autozone or Checkers/Schuck's/K-(something). Here's a link to them http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C5M27..._rev_prod_title

Opt for the free delivery (if they still offer it). I did and mine still came the next day.

This has been covered on here SO SO many times... simply put, it's been the experience of MANY others on here, and the advice of the two Toyota techs I spoke with personally, to go with the 5mm NGK or Denso wires and NGK or Denso plugs.

Lots of people get the iridium plugs, it's my understanding they'll last longer but there's no performance boost. If you wanna spend the money, then more power to you. Otherwise you're best best is to go with the Platinum plugs. Just stay with the NGK ones either way. Or spend the extra money for the label and get Denso. Whatever floats your boat. But stay away from Bosch. And use the search engine on here.

i think getting those springs taken care of would be the #1 priority on my list. those are an accident waiting to happen. once you cut the springs you lose all the strength of the spring. but that's just my .02 cents. safety is my priority.
