To be honest 200.00 will get you a descent primer gun ... A all around good starter gun that is good for both base and clear are the devilbiss plus, devilbiss CVI(my favorite ), and the SATA RP.....
now I use a seperate gun for everything my line up is a SATA jet 90 for primer , a SATA RP digital for sealer a SATA NR2000 for Base(HVLP) and its awsome for metalics and pearls, and a DEVILBISS CVI for my clear, all with a 1.3 cap.... ALL Of those guns except the SATA NR2000 operate nicely at 40-45psi and the SATA NR2000 between 10PSI and 20 PSI The SATA's run between 500-700 and the devilbiss run between 4-500. Sometimes by looking at a pawn shop you can find them USED but just make sure the tips arent scared in any way and the fluid needles arent bent. I picked up my JET 90 that I use for primer for 30.00

Well i'm no pro, i've never even painted a whole car before. Just various panels and body kits, wings, ect... Plus, i've always went to Home-Depot and rented one. I've used several different brands, but the one that sticks out in my head was a JET-###. i think it said 130-135 or something... this was a few years ago, dont hold me to it... i just remember that i couldnt get the braston (CHEAP-O) so they upgraded me for free. biggrin.gif

But this guy right up here ^Marbledpearlcelica^ he's got it all figured out!! i'd PM him and unload a line of querys until your satisfied and buy something, lol.

But that's if i was buying something. I like to get more one on one with people before i take their advice. Whatever~

Good luck, and post some pics; maybe then i wont be scared to do a *Whole* car for once. lol tongue.gif

also look into iwata paint guns. i prefer them over sata base guns....sata clear guns are really nice though, but as far as price, comfort and performance i would go with iwata for an all around gun

keep something else in mind though, prep work is about 90% of paint work, then the rest is buffing and polishing.....if the prep is not good, no matter how good your gun technique it won't cover up the prep and you can help out a mediocre paint job with some good buffing and polishing...and no matter how expensive the gun is it won't compensate fro poor technique

I have used SATA and Devilbiss HVLP (high velocity low pressure).

My fave was the devilbiss. And one for primer, base and then clear is best. Marbledpearlcelica got it right biggrin.gif

Devilbiss

i like the fact devilbiss came out with the disposable cups, less cleaning and you can get lids for them so you dont need to constantly use containers to store your extra paint, so that tomorrow you dont need to make a new batch lol

the prep work isnt a problem we took some harbor freight guns which sprayed like garbage and still we got the paint to lay flat and with out runs so im not worried about that im just wanting to give my self an easier time of painting since it took us a bit longer to do the paint cause the gun kept sputtering but the outcome was awsome. im going to hopefully be buying my kybs and tiens this weekend and then i save up for my gun and then finally pick my grey i want and start work once i my wings made and sent over from chrisc i really need to start doing an inventory thread so i dont loose any of my parts laying around.
