I emailed colt cams for the 294 grind...they don't do it but offered this instead...

256° .330 Lift – the cost for this one is $350.00
260° .345 Lift – The cost for this one is $400.00

What can this do for me?

this is for a 3sge im assuming.

they dont run much lift, 8.76mm not much over stock, if any.
the HKS 264 deg run 10mm lift from memory, thats what im running and they are good.
strong boost in power from 4k upwards

did you order your hks 264 for strictly the celica or universal? Intake and exhaust cams?

I emailed colt also, but so far no response. What regrinds would be good from colt though? I know we can get the 294 regrinds from webcams, and obviously the gains are there. But if we plan on running stock internals, but on a boosted application, what can Colt offer?

with these prices you're better off with webcams 650 for the pair.

same as with any car with cams tongue.gif

expect (with say the 264 deg sticks, both intake and exhaust):

loss in low rpm performance, under say 1800 rpm **** all pull, quite rough. under 2300 not too bad

around 4000 expect a big jump in performance, anyone been in a 2zz-ge equipped car when they come onto lift, its like that.

maybe a tiny ammount of gain in spool.

expext your exhaust note to be louder.

rough (read much tougher) idle, a bit lumpy.

you can run these cams on stock ecu (i ran my car in on stock ecu with these cams)

how much change also depends on your cam gear settings(if you have adjustable cam gears), I also have adjustable cam gears and have 2 deg advance on the intake and 4 deg retard on the exhaust, ill be playing with these settings more to get the optimum settings, the more you adjust the cam timing the rougher you get down low and the lumpier the idle, no big dramas though, if your car is your daily you could live with it so dont stress. 264 are generally regarded as the biggest cams you should have in a car regulary street driven.

yea but then you have to get bigger injectors, fp, afpr, some sort of piggy back to the ecu and then tune...plus stiffer springs?? Then Tune..

Well I had hks cams 264 intake and 272 exhaust for a turbo eagle talon I had and those cams gave me more power all through the powerband but mostly noticeable around 6500+ rpm. They more like dragging cams...I found out the stock cams were more low-end aggressive. It was an expensive mistake. Cams takes a lot of researching and studying I've been learning.

what do you need to get the response and pull at a lower RPM level, let's say at 1500 or 2000 RPM? i want the boost to kick in at the lower part of the RPM and yet have it drag to higher RPM for the redline...hope this hasn't confused anyone...kindasad.gif

want power low and high? buy a car with vvtl-i otherwise you cant really have it.
stock cams are the best for low to mid rpm performance.

if you want power up top you have to sacrifice down low, just the way it is. If you want low rpm boost (as in less then 2200) dont expect any power after 5000, the turbo will not flow anywhere near enough.
sequential turbos would fix this proble, but who is going to fcuk around with two turbos on a 4 banger.

as an example think about the stock ct26 found on gen 2 3sgtes, fine low rpm, reasonable spool times (say full boost buy early 3000) but they badly run out of puff after 6k. (there is other factors too but im not going to go into them)

fast spool means you need a small rear housing
small rear housing means restriction
restriction means at higher rpms (say 5k and above) your not going anywhere fast, infact your acceleration is dropping off)

you are in the rough part for bugger all of your driving, and its not hard to drive smoothly at all and keep in the meaty part of your rev range so dont let it put you off. Buy some reasonable cams, feel the benifits and you will never look back.

sorry for the essay chaps

just FYI, the "294 grind" is not the duration of the webcams...its kind of confusing the way they word it.
i would expect the 256's to look somthing similar to dustins dyno for the webcams. like this:

IPB Image

however, i have talked to geoff @ coltcams, and from what he told me, he machines the cams so that it should retain more low end, while still keeping the large gain on the top end.

the 260's would gain you a bit more up top, and a bit less power down low.

Geoff gave me the same pricing for the cams. Now I am a little confused. Is it $350 for one cam or is the pricing for the set?

I think that $350 is for one cam, Bccentaur3.

So the 256's...I should get a 256 intake and 260 exhaust? I want to keep as much low end power as possible and gain some upper end power "if" possible. Point being I want more torque basically and I want it all from the lowest possible rpms to about 5K. Anything gained "after" that is a plus but not too important to me.
