My buddy's got a 94 celica GT. After driving his car for about 15 minutes or so, he'll stop at a light or whatever and at idle, his car lopes high then low (like it's struggling to stay on) then high again and low again. It's not all the time. Plus he has a very tiny amount of white residue in his oil fill cap (I'm thinking possible HG leak?). What's the deal with the loping? I thougt IAC or MAF, but could it be the HG? Oh yeah, the altenator is fine and the battery is new.

high as in higher than idle, or high as in normal idle, but when it goes low it drops under idle?

if its overheating and idling weird, i would check the ignition timing. it may have gotten retarded and your burning a lot of fuel in your exhuast

It idles high but upto normal idle. So it will idle at like a 1000 rpm then drop down to 500-600 rpm then up to 1100 rpm and keep doing it.
