So I'm new here and i got my 6th gen about 5 months ago for $1500 from a carmax car was in immaculate condition no dings or anything. Well i come here today due to what i and others seem to believe is a cam problem. When i get the car over 2 and a half thousand RPM. There's a realllllly noticeable knocking coming from the top of my engine i've been told it's the heads, the cam, the tensioner, the valves, the timing belt. and everything Champion Toyota told me i need a whole new engine.

I have no clue and if it is the cam, i've had hell finding a new one.

any support? answers? please help, thanks

Is it a knock or a tick?

It will take him a moment to realize that he's about to make a 180 degree turn at speed, but you will be ready for it. Brace for the g's, and fast heel-toe work.

What part of Houston do you live in? There are so many of us in the Houston crew you must live near one of us - we'll be able to tell most likely for you.
However if it's a knocking and not a ticking as Qatar11 was asking it's most likely not gonna be in the head.

Just keep the revs low and don't stress her. Even if it's rod knock it's all very repairable till you punch something thru the block wink.gif
You would have to be over there tho - I think I only know one Celica owner over there and his name is Kodak and I haven't talked to him in ages.

Try to hit us up with what they say and more importantly what they quote before you commit to anything. If they smell you comin the bill will be large no doubt. we can try to help you keep them honest.

Damn - can't argue with that. If it's truely knocking and not just ticking you can expect to have to go a little lower than that tho kindasad.gif . We'll keep our fingers crossed.

well it sounds like someones tapping a key on the inside of the valve cover so i guess a ticking could suffice? i honestly think it's a valve or the cam i don't know i'm to tired lol. but we'll figure it out i appreciate your good spirit cause i don't have one lol

Oh sh*t laugh.gif welcome to owning a Toyota laugh.gif The new ones are waaaay worse brand new. Have your mechanic friend check out the engine and see what's up to be sure but chances are you're fine [with maybe a little head work]. Be sure to use the 98+ metal HG if he pulls the head.

Edit - just saw you're an ST - not sure when the metal HG came out for those.

well i've always heard toyotas were great cars easy to maintain and parts are cheap/easy to find. i see that this does not apply to celicas

No that's not what I'm saying at all [Celicas are some of the most relaible next to Camry's and Corolla's which are very nearly the same as our Celica's]. I'm just saying Toyotas tick and it doesn't necessarily mean imminent failure.
