what would you do if he took your car out for a spin with out asking. Your car maybe slower then his and you may ask why would he ever take my car out.

Any car is fun to drive when taking out trash cans, mail boxes, running down a dirt road seeing how high he can get the tires off the ground. You can see were someone might be motivated to take your car out. You wouldnt like that would you?

Not saying you would do that, just pointing out that why you might want to ask him first before taking it out.

You're doing him a FAVOR by ensuring proper maintenance of his car by pushin 140's. thumbsup.gif

Simply just ask him before he leaves, just say "hey, would you mind if I took your car for a spin around the block?" more than likely he will say yes and accompany you. Worst comes to worst he says "maybe when I get back" and you continue your life like normal.

p.s.
if you do take other peoples advice, make sure you bring your digital camera along and take a pic of the speedo and tack maxed out.

1. ask him if you can take it out.
2. evo9's are fast. Especially lightly modded. The grip and power that car has in 1st and 2nd gear is insane. My buddy has one, and even on the highway hes always inching away from me. With exhaust/boost controller and a tune, those cars can run high 11s.
3. Be careful. Most (not all) evo owners are dusche bags.

yeah, don't do it. if he never let you drive it with him then don't even think about it without him.

not 1 other soul has driven my car since the build. i'd be pissed if someone took it for a joy ride.
my friends don't even ask anymore, to me its like them asking if they can **** my girlfriend.

x1000 some things wash off - the taint of someone having driven my baby will never go away. Plus, look at it this way - If it were my car and you took her out and wrecked her [you not being used to the power etc etc] I would hunt you down, torture then kill you. Not a joke, not a threat. I value 3 things in my life: My car, my kids and my girl. If you test drive any of them you will pay. mad.gif
D-man knows what's up [and dude i don't even remember those drinks - glad I waited to sober up before driving]
great - I'm gonna have Bone Thugs stuck in my head the rest of the day rolleyes.gif Pop pop, pop pop, pop pop...

Once my friend left his car at my house with his keys and he was a close buddy if mine, I didnt touch his car knowing that even if I did he wouldnt say anything. I guess if you're really into cars (maybe its more like common sense) you wouldnt touch other people car no matter how tempted you are, I think that its just the respect that we, car enthusiasts have for each others.

Oh and my buddy's car is an bright yellow EVO X.

See? You just contradicted yourself. You're already quivering and cowering. laugh.gif Anyway bfd he drove your car. I'm sure he had your permission. That's kinda the point here - PERMISSION. Ya just don't mess with other people's sh1t w/out permission. Ya might as WELL test drive the g/f!

Permission is the key i suppose, but anyone leaves their car in my position with the keys is basically giving me permission. And how am i cowering? I'll be a Death's place on Friday and we'll be having a good laugh about this rolleyes.gif

But for the sake of argument on the thread, daazndood, just go test drive one at a dealership, then call you buddy and tell him how great (another) 06 lan evo IX handles laugh.gif (thats like banging his girlfriends sister in some peoples terminology rolleyes.gif )

hahaha dam you guys are crazy! i've never had a thread get so many replies!

ok so heres the thing. he DID say i could move it in and out of the garage if needed so he already gave me permission to "drive it"

so heres my plan. im not gonna toss it around turns or go 120 on a freeway. im gonna give it a nice wash because its filthy!

i've driven several manual cars and i know how to drive manual. i drove my brothers prelude and my friends rsx-s and the reverse was simple. my brothers rx-8 you needed to press down on the stick to move it to the reverse gear. not so sure about the evo mr tho....

You'll need to lift the shiftstick up in order to shift into reverse gear.

And have spent well over 3.5-4K since then rebuilding whole sections of the car including a near $2500 build job on the motor. I've spent countless hours redoing whole systems of wiring and many more hours pulling entire interior from the Bpillars back and reinstalling them correctly, The rear seat brackets and seatbelts sourced bought and installed, both doorpanels and wiring, the mirror swap of internals. Removed The entire front body components and reshim them cause it had been hit before, Hammered out the huge bends in the DS side Raditor Support [The Vertical one. I guess that's what they call it] until it was as close to restored as possible. Full a/c delete [regreting that one]. Bought and installed many more after market components and changed most of the one that we're there. Bought and installed a ton of entertainment system stuff including custom work.
I could go on. Don't even get me started on the Gremlin list.
That car is now mine. No offense to those who came before me - I like ya'lls style.
Sorry for the hijack - back to topic.

I just wouldn't risk it, especially if you had trouble with it while it's still parked! Just imagine if you were to lend him your celica and he decided to take it out w/ out telling you. Would you still trust him completely?

He told you to take it in and out of the garage. Maybe he was expecting JUST that. That's why he specified. If he wanted you to use it, he could've been brief and told you, "drive it if you need it". I wouldn't have driven it, unless he gave me permission. Imagine if you have an accident. tongue.gif

At least you got it out of your system, LOL. Those cars pull pretty hard even in stock form, man. They actually feel rawer than the X. I rode in a stock blue X and it felt a bit disappointing in terms of overall pull. It's cushier, heavier and has a different tranny, so you don't feel that strong umph that you feel on an IX. It's more linear. I have to do a shoot of another blue X, but that one already touched the 10s. It's a given that I will get to taste its power and change my opinion on it being "slower". tongue.gif

where do u ppl come up with this lol...i think that if the guy trusted him to park his 25k$ car in ur garage he must trust u,and to leave the keys with u he really must trust u..but he did say if u want to move it in and out of the garage..and u did move it in and out. This is wat id say:

"well i had to move ur car out of the garage and i could have sworn i heard something so i wanted to help u out and take it to the garage and fix it for u, but when i got to the garage it was closed so i jsut brought it home and didnt want to touch ur baby any more..sorry"

because that'd be a dirty lie.

If that's the case, atleast just limit the amount of truth that you give him. "yeah, i pulled it out of the garage, and after i did some stuff i put it back" wink.gif

I'd say fcuket, and tell him later when he comes to pick up his car. Big deal, you took it for a spin around the block. Nobody got hurt, nothing got wrecked, everything is fine. Just tell him when he gets back or something. It's not a big deal. rolleyes.gif

its not like i hurt anyone or anything. you guys are acting like im some sort of criminal. so i put like less then 3 miles on his evo. whoopeee....

now, if i had taken it downtown and went clubbing and cruising and came back like 4 hours later then yeah i can see how thats pretty messed up.

its not like i do this often. the only time i'll ever have an evo in my garage ever again in my life is if i buy one. and at least it wasnt his 08 m3....

On a forum where cars are treated as family members, you broke a major rule. You have no idea what could have happened in those 3 miles. Imagine it got away from you or someone else crashed into you, how do you explain that?

not gonna lie, if my friend had a evo and left it in my garage, i would have done the same thing! but i would tell him i did it, wash the car, and top it off on premium!
I'm not gonna hide it or anything, just come straight out and tell him i did it and that his car is amazing and talk him up and hope he forgives me!
and to give you a clue on how i drive, the local dealer doesnt let me test drive WRX STI's anymore... frown.gif

so just tell him you did it and that you love his car and you think its amazing. if he's a good friend he'll understand.

Sorry daazndood, but i cant agree with you on this one. Sprint is right. Not towel drying is FTWS (for the water spots) laugh.gif

And water spots on a pretty car = FTL thumbsdown.gif

(i still dont think driving it is so bad, just tell him that you drove it when he gets home, no biggie rolleyes.gif )

or celica owners are too poor to own an evo :-)

I know I wouldn't own my celica if I had extra money for another car. Its a 4 seater car that really only seats 2, lol. Much like the supra, rx7, and 300zx. Except we arent fast (excluding the gt-4) and arent nearly as good looking.

laugh.gif evo's aren't all that, it getting you ladies, fail.

I don't know what's sadder: Trying to use cars to get girls or wanting girls lame enough to date a guy for their car. Epic fail.
Personally there has never been a part of my life where I needed a fishing lure to get the girl I was after but owning a 6gc has certainly helped I'm sure.

PM sent, and you agreed with my POV. Now retract your statement (and you know damn well that that was one hell of a way to pick-up chicks in an EVO laugh.gif )

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

omg, dude u washed it too? WHAT in the ****ing world.

either A) your buddy doesnt give a crap what happens to his car. or B) u have a death wish my friend.

Not only did u take the car for a "spin", u risked scratching the paint. (god forbid there was a small stone or dirt on the sponge/shammie/etc)

daazndood (2:13:53 AM): sorry
him (2:14:05 AM): 0.0
him (2:14:09 AM): LOL <3
him (2:14:15 AM): man you see her scratches
daazndood (2:14:19 AM): yeah wtf man
daazndood (2:14:20 AM): on the hood
daazndood (2:14:22 AM): big rock chip
daazndood (2:14:24 AM): made me sad
him (2:14:27 AM): WTF!
him (2:14:29 AM): ON THE HOOD NO WAYS
daazndood (2:14:32 AM): seroius
him (2:14:36 AM): gege
daazndood (2:15:24 AM): dude
daazndood (2:15:26 AM): i had to wash it twice
him (2:15:53 AM): woah
him (2:15:54 AM): thanks.
him (2:15:55 AM): lol
him (2:15:58 AM): ill clay bar it when i get back

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

that pretty much seals it. and devilsden97, again about the reverse , not all cars engage into reverse the same way. hell, the evo X doesnt even have a dedicated reverse gear.

and i have one of those weird high-tech mesh netted sponges. no need to worry about stones being stuck in it otherwise i wouldnt use it on my car either.

eh he seems like the 95% of evo owners out there... much like the celica owners that drive them just because they are cars

dark colored cars + air drying = water spots (most the time)

if this guy was anyone with respect for his baby, im sure he'd be pissed as hell. and all the evo bashing... i think thats just jealousy - next thing gonna hear about some crank walk bs - anything to shoot them down. 20k for a car that can outrun a gtr & carry 4 people during the week is a good car in my mind
