I decided to pay close attention to my mileage this week.
I'm driving a 94 GT 5-Speed.

I don't really go over 70-80 on the highway..but I drive
"peppy" on the surface roads (can't help but have fun in
the Celica)..

I'm getting about 280 a tank. With recent plugs, wires,
rotor, cap, distributor.

How's your mileage this summer and how do you drive?

My new, blue spark plug wires gave my Celica, roughly, 250 more horsepower..

Wow, that's pretty crappy.

I get just under 400 a tank, maybe even 400 if I let it go all the way to empty.

Yeah, I drive at pretty high RPMs on the surface roads...but I think
I need a new oxygen sensor and a couple other things.

You're doing nothing wrong. You're driving a GT. He's driving an ST. It all depends on your
driving. My city driving RPMs are almost always above 3k. And I do mostly city driving.
If I took it really easy - drove soft, shifted soft and lightened up on the gas foot, my mileage
would jump up considerably. In the situation where I am doing highway driving, I get about
31 MPG.

Get a block heater or a oil pan heating pad !!!

I have the same crappy winter MPG...winter blend + cold + snowy road = excrement!

i have a block heater.. it's just that my parents think it's a waste of electricity if i leave it on overnight (i can agree to that). they say turning it on in the morning a couple of hours before i leave is ok.. and when i park at the university, i park at the 'cheap' far lot with no power available. frown.gif

oh yeah, btw we get much harsher winters than you.. wink.gif

i love snow... i just hate the cold.

OOH wait there, I will not argue with you, but last winter here was the worst ever! I had no blower and no place to put all my snow, it was insane!

Buy a timer for the block heater (I guess you have that already ), 2 hours of pre-heating proably only costs like .20 $ of power.

Crappy. About 21.5-23.5 depending on how much I use the A/C and throttle. I guess the motor has something to do with that though. biggrin.gif

I check my mileage every time I fill up to make sure everything is kosher; it hasn't been below 25 in a few years. 27-29 combined city/highway with AC on is average. I've gotten over 33 on highway trips.

I went to albany this week. 90miles there. 110ish back (car accident...long way around) crusing 3k RPM + some city driving and the tank is empty.

currently 368miles on the tank....and i have enough to get to the station.. 7 miles from my house.

420 miles on a tank easily before I start getting scared. That's mostly highway miles, but with stop and go traffic

That's about what I used to get with stock 15'' rims. Now I usually fill up around 370-380 to be on the safe side (it would probably go over 400 though) with 17's. About 27-29 mpg, which I think it's pretty normal, considering I use my A/C every now and then and I don't drive slow either.

IDK if there's anything I could do to raise my MPG...I'm assuming the engine is working pretty efficiently even though it's older.

Assuming I drive 400 miles and empty the tank, I'm only getting 25 MPG. Good, but I drive pretty relaxed, with AC on 75% of the time and the rest with the windows down when I do less than 55. Weird since the factory estimations are 27 city, 34 highway, I would think I'd get somewhere in between that.

i have a ST 5 speed. with new spark plugs, K&N cold air intake, with one new ntk oxygen sensor and full exhaust system. I drive all city. Shifting at no more than 2,200 rpms and never going faster than 50mph. Pretty much driving like a grandma you can say... i get 380 miles with 13.5 gallons. The tank itself can carry 14.5 gallons. I always fill up when the gas light turns on or a little before. like in between empty and the 1/4 line. the best the car will get on the street is 28 mpg. still need to change my main oxygen sensor that has 110,000 miles on it. I NEVER USE THE A/C

According to some post on some other forum kilometers per litre (kpl) = mpg * 0.3540, i know my car does 8kpl around the city (probably about 9kpl if hitting the very bottom of the tank--below e) and i reach between 9-10 kpl if any motorway driving is done on the same tank of gas, by this equation i'm getting 22mpg in the city and between 25 - 28mpg with motorway driving included. On a scale between 0-10, 0 being conservative without freewheeling, 10 being lead foot, my driving is about 7.

Using the maths given by delusionz, I get about 11 km/l (31 mpg) around town and 13.5 km/l (38 mpg) for purely open road driving. Around town I get 550km from full to when the light comes on (~50l), and about 680 km on open road driving. I wouldn't call my driving "nana" driving but I don't take it to 7k with every shift, usually to 3 -4.5k with the odd one to 6k.
