Okay, so i installed an AFR gauge this weekend, and everything seemed to be in working order. Until i got on the road for work this morning. After my engine warms a bit, I fall lean during idle (red light); and WAY lean when i begin driving (green light), after a second or two (not sure yet if it's related to RPM or speed) it'll return back to stoich, and stay there until i come to a COMPLETE stop and will gradually dip back down to lean. kindasad.gif at the worst of it, it sits about 2 points into lean.

WTF could be the reason for that?

That's correct for a stock 5S-FE ECU [I watched a very good quality narrow band reader for years on my last 5S-FE]. I'd have to watch it in action to be sure but what you're seeing is in line with my experience but basically that's the 5S ECU doing what it's designed to do - save you on gas. What you need to do is get your SAFC-II wired up and watch for knock to be excessive during those lean moments.

Well, also, i'm getting this nasty little "pulsing" noise coming from the engine at times of cold idle, like a cats purr. and last night it stalled out & died on me. (is that knock?) It seems to have something to do with the oil & water gauges, but it's not consistent. IDK...

Definetely not knock - you'll know knock when you hear it.
Purring noise that may be related to the gauges? WTF?

IDK, but it's deff. stalling out for some reason. frown.gif like it's not getting enough fuel or spark or something. When i plug'd the water gauge last night, it's began struggling and just died off. But this morning (w/o nothing except for the AFR gauge hooked up (not causing problems) the first start-up was doing the same thing, and it died. But when i started it a second time, it' was all gravy and ready to go. confused.gif

Where are you getting your power from for the gauges and do you think it may have anything to do with your weirdness last week and the rain?

Nope, that one is slain. Turns out the alarm had nothing to do with it, It was a striped wire elsewhere. I'm thinking i'll check that set of wires for other imperfections, but i wanted to know what could cause this, that way i can track it down on the wiring diagrams, and know exactly what wire is bad, or know what mechanical error is wrong. W/E the case.

the AFR is:
POS(+) cig&radio fuse
NEG(-) BATT
SENSOR at the sensor rolleyes.gif
and the other wire didn't do anything but dim the gauge.

Also, Negitive is on the BATT because when i grounded it, The car died. frown.gif WTF?

But when you went to the battery it acted right? Where the fcuk did you ground it to? I still have all my old wires for that gauge setup so we could always test things that way [Yeah I didn't use that dimmer wire either - leave that one alone]

First i had just tested it under the hood to figure out the wiring, everything was good, so i installed it, and grounded it under the fuse panel, where the bottom plastic screws to. Then when the engine started struggling, and AFRG was showing me a lean reading I went back to under the hood (test position) and everything was fine agin. So i put the neg. to a bolt near the Driver headlight, and the engine died right away. So it seemed that unless the NEG was on the battery, than the engine was going to fcuk up. I figured maybe there was too much ground-noise in the ground for the gauge, and maybe it was bleeding into the sensor and causing some unwanted reactions.

Could be - how did you splice [hopefully not] into the sensor itself? Hopefully you did it like I showed you and just added the wire loop around the correct terminal in the harness to sensor connector. From the sound of your readings you did indeed choose the correct wire from the sensor. Maybe your loop is also touching the other wire soemhow? IDK. If it's working right now don't mess with it I say.

no, i didn't splice into it rolleyes.gif there was room enough in the back of the harness to plug in a small wire, And fit into the plug inside the harness.

Right on and is everything working fine right now? If not - stop by my work after work and we'll get it figured out [I have zero tools in the car today which feels weird]

Yeah, for now. But i dont want it to STAY batt direct kindasad.gif I want to be able to USE my groundings.

Also, when i went to lunch just now, it never hit lean. confused.gif i suppose i need to go inspect those wires again rolleyes.gif That's probably the problem. (i hope)
