Wheel shakes at 90+? Options

I know this typicaly has to do with alignment and tire balance. I was curious if after you all got after market 17" rims, though it takes longer to reach that speed, you dont shake anymore right? Im hoping when I get thoes it will fix everything.

I have 18"s and doing 110 doesn't shake at all. Sure if you hit bumps its going to pull a little more hard, but its expected.

Steering wheel shake/vibration IS caused by wheel balancing and wheel alignment.
So once you've sorted that...problem fixed.

As far as reaching a certain speed is concerned, this depends upon the overall diameter of your 17" wheels including tires against standard/original diameter.
A smaller overall diameter than standard will give you better acceleration, lower high speed and a speedo reading higher than actual speed.

Oh yes, with larger width tires you get a certain swaying movement on uneven surfaces.

what is the overall diameter of the original tyres(tyres+rims)..
Is it advisable to get a larger diameter, smaller diameter or same diameter as compared to the original tyres....how does it affect, acceleration, speed.

I believe that the standard diameter is 609.1mm this equates to 195x65x14 tyres on 14" rims.
The advised replacement diameter is 215x40x17 tyres on 17" rims.

If you check out the tyre calculator on www.tirerack.com they provide you with the original size based on your vehicle and options for having larger rims.

I guess it's advisable to get, as near as possible, the same diameter in order that your speedo reads correctly.

Smaller diameter = better acceleration, lower top speed and a speedo reading greater than actaul speed.

Larger diameter = lower acceleration, better top speed and a speedo reading lower than actual speed.

Your shakes are probably being caused by having the wrong offset.

That's a very good point.

For an ST, your PCD should be 5x100, your offset in the range of 35-38 and c/bore 54.

Mine used to do the same thing, but they were stock wheels. I got them rotated and they were fine.

Another note:

I have 17 in rims coming this week, with 205 40 17 tires. Will this affect my speedo rating? if so can i adjust it?

It could just be a bad tire, but usually thats noticable long before 90mph.
