hi guys, sorry to bring up another exhaust thread.... but, on my st202, i have put a custom muffler/can on the end (for sound difference only i know) ive de-cat'd too, now rather than have a totally new custom exhaust, i was wondering if i'd be better off just having a 4-2-1 custom manifold made up and use it on the existing pipe.. how much power (if any) would i gain doing this?, or should i just go for the full custom? thanks in advance for any help...

Dude, he/she just joined a month and a half ago - have some patience. I often think we loose potentially valueable members cause everyone jumps at the chance to chastise for not using the search button etc.
We were all new here once.
OP - You should definetly use the search functions and also just look around in the appropriate sections but if you don't find what you are looking for feel free to post up - that's what this site is for. Also you or anyone can feel free to PM me if you have any questions you don't want to post - I spend a good portion of my day answering PMs that range form the simple to the very complex. I never tire of helping others if they want to learn more about their Celicas. wink.gif

I know that they are new, but the thread was the second one down when he posted. If he didn't notice it then they took NO effort to see what was already here.

I am relaxed, but there are two new exhaust threads made almost everyday. I'm trying to make it easier for people, so threads like this aren't made so often.

A simple "WELCOME TO 6GC, there is plenty of valuable information on this topic...just take some time and use the search feature" would have sufficed. thumbsdown.gif 0o0o0o0o and Glitz_Celica........ EASYY guys, i actually did read your thread 'GotToyota', and it helped me with the dimension of pipe, but dont feel it answered my above question, i was just honing in on a certain point.... 'the manifold', i meant no offense or ignorance to you mate...

No problems here man - no worries. Which gen motor do you have and which manifold do you have currently? Some of those later 3S-GE manifold are pretty damn good as is - helps explain the bump in HP vs the 1st gen we got here [as well as the newer more agressive tune].
Post some pics so we can help better.

Ditto - welcome. And ignore GotToyota, he's crabby today because the infrastructure of our nation is crumbling today. tongue.gif Your day is already over, so you've had more time to adjust to your economic infrastructure crumbling than we have.

Sorry for the grumpiness, welcome to 6GC!

I need to add a manifold part to my exhaust thread as well.

lol, well thanks for the open welcome anyway guys... erm ive got the 1993 gt if that helps... i just figured that seens as im already de-cat'd as i said, if it would be more sensible just to get the 4-2-1 tubular manifold, my basic goal here is just to get my 'gt' to hit the 200bhp area the most cheapest and economical way without sacrificing reliability (which i know is normally impossible... but anyway, thanks again for your help...

BHP and notice he's starting with a 178BHP [IIRC] 3S-GE motor - in theory it's totally doable.
In theory anyway.

IMO Cannon muffler and de-cat pipe is all you need on a 3S-GE, the Headers are already somewhat long-4 into 2 into 1, And if you've ever seen FE headers, you'll see how damn good the 3S-GE headers are designed...

What I'm thinking of doing with my exhaust headers is heat wrapping them and doing away with the tin heat shield, This will keep your exhaust gasses hot in the pipes (the hotter the gas the faster it flows) aswell as doing a good job of reducing intake heat

The 5S-FE guys regain arseloads of power with full exhaust system tuning that us 3S-GE guys never lost in the first place.

as for the 200HP mark its totally do-able

The redtop beams is 200HP stock, Just think of the differences

1. Slightly higher compression ratio
2. lumpy cams in VVT-i mode

So perhaps you could go for a half size head gasket to bring the compression up and go with another set of camshafts and port and polish your ACIS manifold. then to regain your lowend torque set the position of the ACIS air throttles to a slightly more closed position.
