yea, a quick seach can net all the results you need.

to sum it up quick:

gen 1 3sgte came in the 4th gen celica alltrac. (st-165)

gen 2 3sgte came in the 5th gen celica 90-93(st-185) and usdm mr2 90-94

gen 3 3sgte came in the 6th gen celica 94-99 (st-205) and jdm mr2 94+

gen 4 3sgte came in the JDM caldina (st-215) (not sure of the years, i wanna say 99+ but again not sure)

alright and i remember i believe it was you or jum saying they went to a 3gen b/c it was dual entry?
and is that referring to when/how the turbo spools and when it forces the air in?
i think it was in the jims build thread, and what benefits do the 4gen have that 3rd gen doesnt?
thanks

The dual entry ct-26 turbo was in the 2nd gen 3sgte. The first gen 3sgte had a single entry ct-26.

3rd and 4th gen 3sgte motors had the ct-20b turbo installed. The difference with the 3rd and 4th gen is the fact that the turbo exhaust housing is one piece with the exhaust manifold.

The benefits of the 4th gen would probably be, its a newer motor and puts out a little more power then the 3rd gen.

bccentaur. everything you say is correct appart from gen3 doesnt have one piece exhaust manifold and turbine housing, im assuming it was a type-o.

while we are on the subject does anyone know if gen4 have stainless 3 angle cut valves and oil squirters like then gen3?

it makes me wonder if toyota made them as tough as they didnt use them for rally racing etc and therefore didnt need to be as unbreakable.

Cuts, I meant to say that the 4th gens turbo is one piece with the manifold and the 3rd gen isn't

so just to make sure im understanding, power lvls are pretty muchly the same...between first and second and then same between 3rd and 4th? i was reading how the 3rd gen is easier to tune than 2gen...i think it was batman or jim answering to batman on a post but for the life of me i cant find it (jdmguy and rest of ec6gc crew have waaayyyy to many car story threads) anyway-how is it easier?
and what is the difference between dual and single entry-does dual give you a little boost then alot to cut down on turbo-lag?
and i read the ct-20b is a smaller turbo than the ct-26-yet somehow it gives the 3sgte more power...how is this?
so i guess final question-difference between dual and single entry
and how is the smaller ct-20b in a 3rd or 4th able to give more power than a ct-26
thanks again
-and i read the wiki articles

the ct20b isnt smaller than a ct26, it's bigger (on the exhaust side for sure, I dont know for the intake side).

For Cuts_the_pilots, the gen 4 has oil squirters (I can post a pic of my 4th gen bloc if you want). I have a gen 4 head at home, how can I see if it has stainless valve and what is a 3 angle cut??? If you tell me where too look and how to test, I can give you theses answers.

Celiman dont believe everything you read unless its from people that are in the know.

ct20b (or ct26 gen3 as its really known) is deffo not smaller, exhaust housing is a bit diff, wheels have slightly diff design, and in the case of adm have a steel turbine wheel.
dont even thing about gettin a gen1 ct26 (single entry) they are a pos and not worth anything, duel entry makes it spool faster without loosing anything in the top end.

3 angle cut means the valve seats on 3 angles, i cant remember the angles off the top of my head but its prob 20, 40 and 60 or so, means the valve edge is smoother better for flow. The better engines have them, gen3 3s, 2jz, rb26 etc. Just by lookin at the valve and seat you should be able to see 3 diff seating angles if its 3 angle cut.

To check if the valves are stainless put a magnet on it, if it sticks to it then its not as stainless in pure forms isnt magnetic.

no swapping or anything is not in the cards...so dual entry forces some of the air in right off the bat and the rest for bigger boost later?
am i correct? lmk
thanks

no.
the twin entry system keeps the exhaust pulses for 1&3 and 2&4 seperate, for improved spool and response.
