And why do people say that I'll leave because I no longer have the car? I'm still staying here.

Epic, epic, epic fail. I would take my Celica, as stock and boring as it is, over an even more boring Civic anyday.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that's a nice car to choose! I'd still much rather have a 6th gen celica, but if you are ready to move on, then you gotta do what you gotta do.

Those cars have alot of potential. Enjoy it!

I wanted to move on and like I said before, I got a newer car for free so I decided to take the jump.

it is sad that you dont have a celi...maybe you could fix up the parts car (the suspension is ummm ballin?) but ya-180k 95 for 120k 01-id do it, well i dunno if i would but i dont drive nearly as much, plus we all know youll be coming back supra, celica, civic, mr2???? biggrin.gif

i mean considering it was straight up trade nice....no going from drive to neutral pretending like you still have a manual : )

but the best part...
VTEC GOES BBBBBRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!x a trillion

If it was a free trade, I can't hate on you for that...but that's pretty high mileage for an 01.

Screw it, I can't fight it. You go from a clean, crisp white Celica with nice rims and everything else to something like that? The Civic has NO style compared to the Celica.

I'm sure it wasn't perfect, you can't expect any 13 year old car to be, but I see Civics just about everywhere I go...they're known as economy grocery-getters, unless you have an Si. At least Celicas have some old-school sports car rep.

Sorry to blow your balls but celica's have the rep of being S L O W laugh.gif x999. They look cool and that's much about it!

... ok well they do have some other qualities..

I think I'd know what a slow Celica is...7A-FE coupled to an automatic, aka...MY car. laugh.gif

But they're at least somewhat cool...Civics are just so common. Plus you can say it backwards and it's the same thing, that's just weird.

The Civic is just about as fast as my other car was, except it starts to pull around 80+.

The main reason I did the trade was for aftermarket choice. There are MILLIONS of parts the the Civic, I am honestly sick of the 6GC having nothing good going for it.

I guess so...that's the ****ty thing about USDM. I'm thinking a JDM or European GT-4 tuned to around 350bhp and customized to my liking would probably be perfect. But, that's not possible here.

I don't get it...the point was to own a newer car with less miles, but with less personality and style?

Civics are so....generic. Not saying they are bad/good, just...really typical cars.

Not really, you should've known. I can commend you on newer and lower miles, but other than that...it's a Civic. Not even an Si, just a Civic. Everybody has one and it's known as an econobox and not much else.

Besides, you even went from a manual to an auto. :fail:

Lol, give the guy a break! you have 7 posts in this thread hating on the honda. His civic looks pretty nice compare to the crap out there. Honda and Toyota's reliabilty is pretty much the same and well..Honda just makes more interesting cars than Toyota nowadays.

Congrats on the new car, or newer anyway. thumbsup.gif

anyway, you really had to have expected some flaming, you did post a honda on a site full of toyota owners, so what you think is "harsh" is probably just the love we still feel for our cars.

Good luck, BOTH honda and toyota have great reliability. You should have no worries for a long time to come.

But manual to auto was kinda a fail though... tongue.gif

Surely you didin't expect everyone on a Celica website to congratulate you on swapping your Celica for a Honda?

I'll say this - put the right motor in it and those are the fastest year civics - I believe they are the lightest right? Some rediculously low weight like a MKI MR2 light almost. biggrin.gif

The headlights are already gone. wink.gif I have nice stock headlights now.

And Death, these are really light. I think around 2700lbs?

EDIT: Nevermind, 2222 lbs.

That's what I was thinking. With the right motor swap and a Turbo kit that car will be a monster [And it wouldn't cost 10K for that car - the joys of Honda to be sure]
IMO Honda = Toyota for reliablity

it's everything that's attached to the honda with zero reliability. Everyone that i've ever known to have one has random sh!t go wrong with it. Like an ex girlfriend of mine had a civic, and when she unpluged her radar dectectr from the cigg lighter, it blew the interior fuse, the signal/break lights fuse, wiper fuse and the foggs fuse. Just from unplugging something kindasad.gif the ac went out after 8 months. THe exhaust man. had loosened itself about the same time. Radiator fan fell off while driving ((and fluid went everywhere, i was driving behind when it happened, hallarious to watch, not so much fun to get beat up for laughing when she finaly pulled over laugh.gif ))

IDFK, in my exp. i would never own one. Nor a kia for that matter, i i've already given up on mercury products.

Sorry, but I gotta consider the source here - the guy who wants to turbo his car BEFORE giving it a basic tune up. Everything attached to it has zero reliability? I know first hand that that is absolutely FALSE. My ex has/had a '97 Civic (she wrecked it a year or so ago and now it's put away for when the kids get old enough) and she literally drove that thing into the ground and it NEVER ONCE broke down. She doesn't know jack about oil changes, fluid, NOTHING. The kids stomped the sh1t out of it, the dog ate it, everything you could imagine, and boy we took that car EVERYWHERE, on some serious road trips and through terrain that anything with 2WD should never see. That car, while in my opinion was ugly and had no guts, got GREAT gas mileage (40 mpg) and just took a beating like a champ.

So your one story about this chick's car? I guarantee you it's an isolated case. That story goes more along with many American cars. Manphibian is right.

LOL I saw that thing on the news the other night, and while they were showing it the weather guy's mike was on and he was like "OUCH! THAT'S gotta hurt!" It was funny as hell.

I own a Honda now... but it's one of these (not this exact one but same model)

First, congrats on the newer car. If it makes you happy then screw everyone else.

On that note, that body style civic is by far the worst. I think the EP3 SI hatch was the best looking car from that generation. I personally wouldn't have traded a Celica for it, but that is just me.

However - with that said, it looks very clean. And as long as you're happy thats all that matters.

A buddy of mine who works for Honda told me that Honda makes their brake rotors out of scrap metal left over from when they make the rest of the car, so he recommends that those get replaced with better ones as he has worked on a few with the OEM rotors and they cracked. How true can that be? I've no idea, but it's just something random I was told.

Nice car though. I thought about getting one of those before the Celica mainly cuz that body style is one of the few that doesn't get stolen here in town and it's got Honda reliability.

As for the 3049867340 parts for the Civic compared to 249 parts for the Celica, it's all generally the same parts with different brand names; some with slightly better quality than others, but when it boils down to it, most are mass produced in China. How else do they keep up with the demand from tastefully done/riced out Civics? It's up to people like us 6GCers who let our creative juices flow and experiment with stuff to get us stuff like custom 7A-FTE exhaust manifolds, 5S-FTEs, 5S-GTEs, 1MZ swaps, and so on. That's where our aftermarket support comes from. smile.gif Just my $.02

edit #2: now that I think about it, it's probably about demand. Silly me.

Congrats on the car.

Its too bad everyone seems to be hating on it though. I like it. Its not necessarily the most stylish car around but it is certainly a platform that you can play with. I mean, its a perfect car to be a sleeper. It doesn't look like a ricer car (yet) and it drives a hell of a lot faster than my car does (and my car DOES look like a ricer car).

Just get a K20 and you're set or there's even a small community that does great things with the D series, though you'd have to strengthen the bottom end a lot.

If it was a free trade, I can't hate on you for that...but that's pretty high mileage for an 01.

Screw it, I can't fight it. You go from a clean, crisp white Celica with nice rims and everything else to something like that? The Civic has NO style compared to the Celica.

Makes me mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

QUOTE (RickJamesBish @ Nov 10, 2008 - 8:30 PM) *
I'm sure it wasn't perfect, you can't expect any 13 year old car to be, but I see Civics just about everywhere I go...they're known as economy grocery-getters, unless you have an Si. At least Celicas have some old-school sports car rep.

QUOTE (RickJamesBish @ Nov 10, 2008 - 8:48 PM) *
I think I'd know what a slow Celica is...7A-FE coupled to an automatic, aka...MY car. laugh.gif

But they're at least somewhat cool...Civics are just so common. Plus you can say it backwards and it's the same thing, that's just weird.
