So after reading a few posts about cai and seeing that its bad to have your filter in front of your radiator like i have mine in the first picture. It really does blow a lot of hot air through those fans wow! figured this out today by myself. anyways, i was trying to find out different ways to put my piping so that the filter wouldn't end up in front of the fans again. I think i got it down right, but tell me if this is totally wrong. the filter is now above the radiator fans btw. This is also 3 inch piping it should be fine right??

Your fans aren't blowing constantly, so you still will be sucking in hot air from the engine. Why not route it to the factory air resonator box in the fender wall? With the intake located under the hood you will still be getting hot air. 3" piping is okay, not bad about it. I bet it sounds mean huh?

hmm well i was thinking of buying a little extra piping and going under the battery and under the cooland resonator. but if i go that low ill need to get a bypass filter right. or should i just put it behind the battery like mostly everybody has here on the site??? Ya it sounds pretty mean. but its hard to hear since i do have an exhaust. No i didn't purchase it from chrom intakes. it was another place on ebay that i bought it from like over a year and a half ago. the cai was the first mod to the car that i bought. i was so amazed by the sound when i first installed it.

I'm going to build a cold air intake for the 7A and the 5S pretty soon here, when I do I'm going to use the routing of this upper intercooler pipe in this pic:
![]() And install the filter down below. Probably run 2.5" piping and a bypass valve on the top side for extra safety. That's how I would do it ![]() -Doc This post has been edited by Dr_Tweak: Dec 10, 2008 - 8:20 AM -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

hey Doc, any clue as to how soon it will be ready?? Also tomas i used the K&N air filter kit to clean it like 3,000 miles ago. So does it really look that dirty?? Also i know K&N filters suggest you clean them every 10,000 miles. If the doc was to make a cold air intake piping that goes inside the fender how would you clean it. Would it be best to get an apexi filter since from what i read its almost maintenance free!!
