well, i got my trd quickshifter in a couple days ago and i must say...this thing is sweeeeet.
with the trd knob the length of the shifter itself isnt all that shorter..BUT, the distance between, and the feel of the shifts is GREATLY improved. just guessing prolly 30-40% shorter. real nice. the install wasnt too bad, sorry i dont have any pics, but its pretty straightforward, and commer will be doing a install feature real soon. you gotta remove the lower section of your console to get at the bolts and stuff...the back section has 2 bolts in the armrest and 2 under the shifter boot. just slide it on out...now i couldnt get the front section off...so i used my go-go-gadget arms to snake the shifter assy. out through the whole where you shifter boot goes..(not an easy task!)there are 4 bolts holding the old shifter in, then disconnect the 2 cables...and these 2 things that hold the cables to the shifter assy. the new unit comes with these 4 washer/spacer type things...its very important to put these UNDER the new shifter assy., commer!( it wont go into gear without these.) reinstall all the other stuff and whamo, short, precise shifts!!! now the car handles like a racecar,AND shifts like one, just need the 3sgte to make it one for real!!!! I NEED BOOOOOOSSSTTT!!!!!lol ![]() ![]() -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

I've got to go for that mod, I hate the long drag from
1st to 2nd. How easy does reverse go? |

I can't wait! I'm gonna go to my friend's garage in a few hours and install this and my struts and springs! I'll be sure to take notes and post a how-to article for you all.

Forgive my ignorance, I tried looking up exactly how a quick shifter would work and got nothing. What does it do exactly?

its shorter than a regular shifter, so that the length of going from one gear to the next is decrease, thus making it easier and quicker to switch gears.

Yep, a short shifter is the same thing. TRD just calls their short shifter a quick shifter. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

it doesnt actually make the shift shaft "shorter" (hehe say that 10 times fast:p ), it changes the pivot point or axis of rotation higher up on the shaft, which infact creates a shorter "throw" between gears, while below, where the shifter connects to the transmission via cables (you know what im talkin about if you have ever removed your shift boot) remains the same "throw" as a stock shifter, hope that helps people from thinking you can just saw off the top of your stock shifter, which ive heard of people actually doing...

along with the short precise throws I also enjoy the little "clink" noise from gear to gear.
