it was really easy to get out the old one. but i can't seem to push in the new one. any tips on how to do this, i've never done it before. i expected it to be hard but not that hard.

Do i just push? can i hammer or pry it in?

im not the buffest guy around, so i could just be lacking power.. lol.

HELP!

1. have the little opening of the o-ring facing down
2. gently wiggle the axle in until it lines up like it should inside of the trans
3. take a long flat head screw driver and a hammer and tap the axle in place using those little groves on each side of the part that the boot connects to.

Just make sure it's aligned well then you can tap it with a hammer or rubber mallet. It should go in pretty smooth. Make sure the seal is in good shape while you're down there.

did you lube up the spline with some grease?

once you get it lined up, you can stretch (gently) the boot and use the heavy middle section of the axle as a hammer to tap the axle past the ring.

you cant just push it in. you have to tap it in from each side with a hammer. it should go right in that way.

if you've distorted the snap ring then it won't pop in, you have to have the axle straight when you hit the end, and hit it with a big rubber hammer, block of 4x4 post or something with some weight that won't damage the threads for the axle nut.

I got it!! Thanks everyone. The snap ring was kind of bent so I tried to shape it back a bit, thanks bitter. And intstead of using a pry bar and flat screwdrver to tap it in we used a crowbar and it went right in!!!
