Ok, so in the past 6 months i've been pulled over 3 times for not haveing a front licence plate, 2 of which I got a ticket for. I finally got tired of it and mounted the plate, problem is I HATE the way it looks...

So I went on a search and found a "retractable" licence plate. I got if off of ebay for 60 (I think) but it was made for a corvette. I figured it wouldn't be too hard to modify and about 10 mins ago I mounted it up. This is how it looks....

This is a far away pic (probably like 6-8 feet away fom the car)

Here is a pic that is a bit closer and more focused on the mount

Here is a really close shot of the mount

And this is with it up, (for those of you wondering - Yes, that is my actual plate and it pretty much says "Your Hating")

Now I know it is blocking the fog light a bit, unfortunatley do to the design of the mount that was as far over as I could go (as far to the passanger side). I did take a shot with the lights on, doesn't appear to have THAT big of an impact, espically because the fog lights are designed to point to the sides...

Hopefully I'll be able to get away with it like that. Legal limit in CA is 12" from the ground. Where it is now I think it is JUST under 11.5". So unless a cop busts out his tape measure I think I'll be good.

Why didnt you just do an OEM mount location? and bad part is that it blocks your fog. If you had to go with it, put it in the middle since we don't have space on the corners to do that style.

I like where you put it, putting it on the side is so baller. I was thinking the same thing, the whole dead centre thing is so cliche and ruins the front of the celica imo. But that will then mean i will have to pay and get the front 2 holes filled and painted up lol.

wow, cops don't like you... back when i lived in cali and had my neon, i never had a front plate on, and never got pulled over, for that reason anyway, and was never ticketed for it until i drove to nebraska, they got me there.

we dont have the extra space on our bumper to mount our plates like an evo on the side, without covering or blocking anything. Ive already mounted my plates before in many places and didnt like how any of them became. Even custom brackets to push it off way to the side but that low looks a bit off and generic. But hey I think that would look great on the center bottom.

that's really cool, its ideal for taking photo's of your car (as long as you remember to put it back up again afterwards). in the UK you have to have front numberplates so i'm not sure if this would be legal over here or not? where did you get it from?

No it has to be used manually...There is a powered one but it was like 150 bucks. I got this off ebay, just search for retractable licence plate and you'll find them. One of my main reasons for getting it was to get it away from the middle, I like to be different.

I really like it. I used to have mine up in my dash area on the pass side but i got pulled over for it a handful of times and i didn't care till i got a written warning for it then put it in the middle like this:

I wanted to put it to the side but i didn't research the fold away license plate. I will now because of you. thanks

That bracket looks bad right there IMO.

The only one I liked was the one I had on the Yellow Celica (bias, I know.)

i'm thinking of getting an Evo or Alfa Romero 156 mounting plate and putting it to the side as i have a FMIC that needs alot of cool air and the UK plates really hinder airflow
