So basically I have a 94 gt with the 8 speaker setup. 2 speakers in the doors, 2 speakers in the back, and 2 tweeters. The factory amp that comes with the car blew, and now I want to replace all of the speakers and install a headunit. I took out the factory amp and am trying to wire all the speakers directly to the headunit(since the harness goes to the factory amp). But I do not want to blow the headunit since it is only supposed to power 4 speakers, not 8. So what should I do? Also, replacing the 8" speakers is kind of annoying. Has anyone replaced them with 6.5? Thanks for the help guys.

There is a write up on how to put aftermarket speakers in the door. The speaker in the door is actually a 6.5" mid. Its very easy to install a 6.5" in its place. I recently put aftermarket speakers in my car. Components in the front and 6.5 mid in the rear. If you are going to replace the stock speakers, I would recommend just getting a 3 way component set up. You dont need 8 speakers. 3 way in the front and a sub in the trunk. All the sound you will need. I'll post some pics of my install.

He actually has 8" in his doors. The premium setup that came stock in his car came w 8", 4", and tweeter in the door. He's gonna do a 3 way setup in the doors then the 6 1/2s in the rear. I have the same setup in my car... well I had the same stock setup in my car now its nothing close to stock.

but your right w/ no 6 1/2s in the rear. The three way in the doors will have plenty of range to fill the car.

why not get a new factory amp (i got mine from car-part.com when mine blew) and keep the factory 8 speaker setup by using this:

... with your new headunit. i have it and all 8 speakers work great.

you should only have 4 sets of speaker wires that connected to your stock player. The tweeters and front speakers have splitters that split the highs and lows and come together in a box that then converts to just one set of speaker wires and the back speakers are the other set, and you only mention 6 speakers total not 8. You can swap out the 8" speakers for 6.5" but you would have to weld different mounts onto the car so that the speaker can screw into the mounts and hold it in place, which isn't worth it in my opinion. Anymore questions feel free to ask

He has the 8 speaker setup. Tweeters on the mirrors, doors have 4" and 8", and back has 6 1/2s. He's gonna have a 2nd factory amp under his seat. He knows what he's doing now. He ordered some parts now just gotta wait and see how it turns out.

Not too many celicas came w/ this setup.
