so this was my first attempt at painting my car. never done anything like it before what you think.

before

during

where i backed into my friends car lol

after

then thought it was missing something so i bought some red ghost pearl, but it turned out to be more pink and purple than red so i went and bought some red air brush pearl and put it on top

ghost pearl

red pearl

i wanted to put the dragon on the hood with a racing stripe down the back, but instead of the typical racing stripe i put it on like a trail of blood

yeah i know the dragon messed up it ripped the black and clear coat when i pulled the tape off but this was all trial and error ill be going to school for it in the fall.

i like the blood strip. you should do a lil wet sanding to get the orange peel off and shoot some clear and call it good. but not bad at all for your first attempt

i liked the staight up black you did before you put the stripe on it. hey, im all about blood and guts, but it is a little much. I eventually would like to have my ST painted like my guitar, red chameleon. id go with a unique color instead of a design.

is the stripe supposed to have paint splashed all over around it? like not a perfect line? it would look alright if it was clean and done neatly, imo, but you accomplished your goal, nobody has what you have....nobody..haha

Not going to add another obvious comment about the paint, but that front bumper... The molding into the OEM bumper is just not complete. It needs to be filled properly and smoothed. It left a very obvious line and in the last picture, you can see where the black cracked and the red shows through! frown.gif

well its different!....not something i would be seen in personaly but hey its ur car and u like it right! so thats all that matters....i was young once.....wanted to be different so i put flames on a four door tercel.....got some greef for it but w/e made me happy so in turn i hope your happy with your kit and paint....like said before u gain some experience so if you decide to change it you can.... the molding of your front bumper wouldnt look bad if you spent more time on it....spread out your fill more and work your way down to a finner grit paper....you can see the scrath marks in the bondo in the pics....but u get an E for effort and a thumbs up for going at it by your self and on you first attempt

I like your idea, but the execution needs some more work I think.
If you want the stripe to be messy, then I'd say what you did with the edges is a really nice touch, proper irregular. However, I'd vary the thicknes sof the stripe as well as twist it a little, make it less straight. Also, I'd spray the main body of the stripe. At the moment you can see brush strokes which isn't great.

Question for you though: I noticed you have an invader style front bumper. Do all the versions of that bumper come in multiple pieces, with the edge to be fitted to the original bumper?
Have you got any instruction manual for that body kit (electronically), and if so, could you send it to me? reason for asking is because i want to fit the exact same front bumper on my celica...

Oh, I have some sick ideas for your car: Why don't you install some amber/yellow/red flashing lights in the opening of the bumper, so you can flash them... It would look like a dragon breathing fire. Would suit your car... hehehe

youmay not be allowed to drive with them on legally, but you could still use it for show when not driving.
there is a lot more that is not legal and gets you into trouble, yet it is all for sale in the shops (e.g. neons are illegal to drive around with in the UK, both inside neons and outside, yet they are still for sale...)

Am i the only one who doesnt hate it? It looks more like a show car that will have 100 subs and lcds everywhere, than a daily driver. I dont mind the artwork that you put on it. It puts out a lord of the rings ork vibe or a "300" vibe.

I'm not totally disliking the car. I don't mind the paint job. But money's gotta be spent where it needs to, and that includes things like getting a proper body kit, and getting a proper paint job.

It looked decent with the black only before the red paint and dragon were added. I think you should rewind back a step and it'd be good again.

I like it, Some people paint their stuff flat colors and think its the best in the world and if thats what they like than it is but at least you got some color it jumps right out at you when lookin at it a real eye catcher i say u did a good job. The front bumper needs a little more smoothing but other than that nice work man.

I just want to add in that when you say "what do you think" in your initial post, please be open to replies that are both positive and negative. Just because it isn't constructive or positive doesn't mean that you didn't ask for it all along. You requested feedback and you are going to get it. If you want positive replies only, post something like "tell me how much you like it!" That way the only way you will know if no one does like it is if no one posts.

On that note, people can do what they want with their cars because they are just that. Theirs. Still, fi you ask for opinions, don't expect strictly rave reviews.

depends on the product your using.
most call for a 5-10 flash time between coats. i give 20-30 minutes for primer/sealer to dry hand slick, and ~15 minutes for base.
clears are a little more tricky, some call for 3-5 minutes between coats, some longer, and some are wet on wet.

Sorry to say but the stripe and dragon has to go! It does not look right on the car at all!
You want to be different? That is not different, that is just goin overboard imo!
You should have just got the kit fitted properly and painted the same red colour as before.

If it was me, I would be embarrass to drive that around. I agree with your dad on this one!
Sorry if I sound harsh, but you wanted my opinion smile.gif

I just hope that you save up enough money to get it painted properly the way a 6GC should look:)

thats constructive!

yea really....(this post is not directed at you mstoochn but to the ones saying these things).....the way a 6gc should look? ..... what? holy whats wrong with you ppl what makes you think a 6gc can only look like a 6gc if the 6gc looks like a 6gc......really! so what is it that you THINK a 6gc should look like........4 head lights? one color paint? hatch? coupe? vert? skirts? 16in rims? 17s maybe 18s? just like ur car? not like ur car? like my car? like this guys car who just did an amazing paint job? hood pins? no hood pins? like your neighbors car? maybe like the car you trashed in highschool? your moped? you say it doesnt look like a 6gc becuz it dont look like your tricycle?.....maybe i should post in every topic to everyone and break there emotionless hearts that there 6gc isnt a 6gc becuz it dont look like mine.

when your opinion was called for im pretty sure he didnt want the disrespectful remarks.....if you dont like it then fine say so get off your tricycles and your big wheels and show respect when posting

hey guys and gals been a little busy, oh and got in a car chase two drunk rednecks at 4 in the morning after work and pulled a beautiful J-Turn for the first time. anyway thanks for the comments. yeah ill take the good with the bad i did ask for your opinions but being an ass about it, you must understand, will discourage others from wanting to post any of their stuff and they might have some great ideas but just need a little guidance. be honest but not soo blunt were supposed to be a community. but i am glad to see some of you like it. yeah im 20 and i like crazy if you knew me you would understand. yes the front and back bumper are coming off and being replaced by proper invader kit. no im not taking it back to just black i want to pursue a carrier in this and like i said before i knew nothing about what i was doing but i loved doing it everyone should try its fun as hell. the times i used for painting, about 20 min between same coats and i left it overnight to add the next coat. and i hope it inspires some of you to think outside the box a little, when you really step back and look at things you realize there is no real way that any car should look except your way.

I kinda like it. Specially the dragon. I expect some clearcoat to get on there. I'm not the flashly type for my own personal vehicle, but that definately shows your desire to put hard work into your vehicle. I can apprecaite that.

yeah i sanded every coat, it may look smooth but when you feel the car after painting its rough, not horribly so but after a light wet sand with 1500 grit you can really feel the difference and truly get a smooth finish. you can see little white spots and streaks all over where you wet sand but when you clean the car off and go to the next step they disappear. although this is just my experience.

I liked the black, personally I don't like racing strips, I understand I put that on my car, but I just wanted to see how it looked, it looks OK, but i'm gonna finish the whole car off in black soon, However, very good job on the dragon and the blood effect. Where did you get your paint?

wow I'm actually really digging it. Only thing I would say is a darker red would work better and you definitely need more clear coats on it but other than that, nice job. I'm a big fan of doing unique paint jobs.
