I don't see any oil on my dip stick, what's going on here? Options

hi guys. I have a 95 with 7afe, I just bought this car 1 month ago.
now, I just did the oil change, but when I pull my dip stick out to check for oil level, I don't see any oil on the dip stick,
but then I took my Tundra's dip stick and put in the engine to see If I have any oil, it show I have oils.

what's happen here?

Someone may have changed dip sticks. How many qts of oil did you put in?

you're like 2 quarts low on oil or parked on a hill. Just give it an oil change and be sure to check the oil level every week or two, it's normal for our cars to use up some oil.

I believe it almost 4 Qt. I change the car about 1000 miles ago.

sounds like u have an oil leak. add more oil.

the only leaks that I have is the valve cover gasket and the seal from the distributor. Is that the reason why I lose so much oil? or like 6Gencelicast said, some one may have change the dipstick, the previous owner maybe?

Valve cover/oilpan/distributor are very common YES! but over time within 2000 km's or less you can lose almost 4 qt's of oil from my experience, and not to be to dramatic but YOU CAN REPLACE THE DAMN VALVE COVER GASKET AND SILICONE THE DISTRIBUTOR FOR 35$$$$$$ AND DO IT IN YOUR GARAGE, YOU CAN DO IT IN ALASKA!!! thats alot cheaper than buying oil no?

I had my engine rebuilt in Jan 08 and of course they do a terrible job of that sort of thing so i redid the valvecover gasket and made sure i put a fair amount of FIGP (silicone) on the corners and its been almost a year and a half and i have not lost a drop of oil. people say that every engine burns a little bit of oil. Well sir, mine has not burnt 1/8th of a quart in 16,000Kilometers

Actually it has - just not an a visible amount. It is a fact that every engine that lubes it's own cylinder walls will burn oil - just not very much.

Actually it has - just not an a visible amount. It is a fact that every engine that lubes it's own cylinder walls will burn oil - just not very much.

unlike the 5s-fe, the 7afe is known to burn oil to alot of oil after 100k.

did you turn the engine off and let the oil collect back down at the bottom of the engine before checking it?

damn it burn alot of oil, I ad 1qt to the motor, and I can see the oil now.

EDIT: Funny story actually, my friend had his friend change his oil. Finished putting the oil in, and the oil level was double. Turns out the stuff that was drained was transmission fluid. That was almost a nightmare. Be -very- careful not to drain your transmission fluid.

4. you cannot use another car's dipstick, they are for different lengths and measurements.
5. maybe you changed your tranny fluid

parts... valve cover gasket... can't remember if its one or two pieces... they usually are about $16-$20... dizzy o ring... maybe $3??

both are easy... valve cover gasket... 5sfe... pull your spark plug wires, undo the four nuts on the top where the spark plug holes are... pull off the valve cover gasket... clean both mating surfaces, use something like brakleen in the red bottle and razor blade on the half moons.... put in new gasket and FIPG the half moons on the corners... put cover back on, tighten to spec.

dizzy is just an o ring... two bolts on the dizzy... dizzy pulls out, clean shaft and replace oring... make sure to put a little oil on the oring to slide it back in smoothly and not knick the oring... semi tighten the bolts... use timing light to get correct position... tighten the bolts down the rest of the way to spec.

edit: oil pan is just a whole bunch of FIPG and 10 mm nuts/bolts... really easy but all your oil has to be drained first... then just clean it with the same stuff as above and apply the FIPG in the groove...
