ok i know now that i need the e-153 tranny in order for the 3sgte engine to run smoothly and allow everything to work fine and not blow anything up. my question is how much would it cost me if i was to go to toyota and ask them for one? what year should i get for this v6 camry tranny? all i need is this in order to start my 3sgte swap. I'm really excited to start on it but this is the only thing holding me back. can't wait

If you want to get an accurate price, you may want to try calling the parts department at Toyota... When I called one locally, I was quoted around $1500 just for the (brand new) tranny... |

1500? that's a little pricy if you ask me that's about how much it cost to get the half clip. are you sure it's that much?

For a BRAND NEW tranny... yes... and that what I was quoted. That's why I said... call your local Toyota Dealer... People here don't maintain inventory of genuine Toyota parts (unless we have guys here that work there)... Sheeesh... and people wonder why I'm so hard on people and noobs... people need to learn how to use their common sense... The Toyota dealer is just a phone call away bud... Give them a call and find out how much it'll cost you from YOUR local dealer if you want a brand new tranny... |

Yeah, a NEW tranny is always preferrable to a used tranny, and it's gonna cost you. Same as if you ordered a 3sgte from autozone (you can, I checked). Costs $2500, but it's either a new engine, or one that's been rebuilt, so it's worth that much. Used stuff is "cheap", new stuff isn't

I believe what he is asking is from what year camry, and what other parts are needed to use this transmision with the 3s-gte.

i work for toyota and they said they are charging me for it for 2300 and that's with employee discount because they have to order it from japan since it's a rare occasion to find a stick v6 tranny so that's what they are asking for. same goes for the mr2 turbo tranny. And shut up about the noob thing. i may be a noob but i probably know more than you dickhead i was just making sure.

I bet you DON'T know more than me... lol... The fact that you work for Toyota and you asking a question of this nature is a perfect example that you don't know jack ish... In addition, if you're asking how much it costs, and what years the E153 was used in a Camry, this tells me that you know very little and need LOTS more research... What exactly were you making sure of? C'mon now... gimme a break... I wasn't directly calling you a noob at first, but now I am... on the grounds that: 1. You work for Toyota and needed confirmation from US in regards to the cost of the E153. 2. Your second post here asks for a SECOND confirmation on the price when I clearly indicated how much I was quoted and that I TOLD you to contact Toyota directly for an EXACT figure. 3. You obviously don't realize that there are other dealers in the states who STOCK the E153 or who can get it from a dealer without having to go overseas. 4. YOU DON'T NEED A BRAND NEW TRANNY... Why pay that much for a brand new tranny when you can get a used E153 for NO MORE than $1000... 5. By you resorting to name calling is a clear indication of your ignorance... Seriously kid... I WAS trying to help you and was going to tell you all the parts that you need for your ST204... but oh well... you can go shove it... since I already mentioned what was needed in another post... go do your own dirty work and start searching... ![]() |

I guess I'll just try to answer your questions then... You'll need the tranny, cables/linkages (if you have an ST), axles (not completely sure about the GT...but definately for the ST), front hubs depending if the Camry axles fit the ST hubs (pretty sure they don't...), and mounts (which I believe there's one on the tranny...) you might need some other small parts... but I don't know exactly... I believe the 5speed V6 Camry trannies were availiable from 90-96...but i'm not exactly sure. I'm fairly positive they had them in the late models of the older 90's style and I know they had them in the 93-96 bodies... then again in the 98-2002 Solaras... On a side note...if the New Solara had a 5 speed or even 6 speed option...I'd buy one in a heartbeat... I love that design... and 3.3 liters of V6 goodness...mmmm.... |

I'm pretty sure they do... that's if you get the right ones... but it's not the WHOLE axle that you're going to need... ![]() |

if i already have the half clip for the st 185 do i really need all those stuff? i know that you must change the tranny if i want it to remain as fwd but.....shift linkages and other parts too? is it really necessary?

***Half Clip? meaning front clip?
Hey, I am doing that swap right now, and YES you do need all the parts. I might be able to get the 3SGE(E-153) tranny but I will need to make custom axels. As of Now I am using the 5SFE because of toysport. You will need a lot more even if you are doing the swap. There are a lot of little things you need. Also depending on what you are going to do with the body, you might need a FMIC and is recommended. Also you will have to make a custom exhaust and maybe intake for the AFM You can make a search and you would see there are a ton of stuff that you may need or may not need. PLUS the wiring is pretty hard if you are getting a JDM clip |

so wouldn't it be easier if i was to get just the engine and transmission or is it better to get the front clip?

if u can afford it get an st-205 from clip, u will need is the diff from an mr2 turbo gearbox to make the gt4 gearbox fwd and half shafts from the mr2 turbo and u will have to get custom axles made. every thing else u will need the front clip will provide.

no matter what it will be FWD, the only way to make it AWD is very expensive, so no one will give you any advice on how to make it anything other then FWD.
Whats different about the solara tranny, and did someone say that the 3s-ge tranny is an e-153? |

Like I said before
You will need a custom exhaust Maybe a custom intake for the AFM..? Probably a Full Tune UP FMIC is recommended, unless you are going to install a scoop There are a lot more little things you need so you should do a search and you will find it easily since this swap is constantly talked about. |

the st185 axles are too short for the st-205 so i had custom axles made unless the axles off the v6 camrys fit. let me know what u used.

It was with LSD. The one without LSD was around $1100. |
