I'm wondering how many people with 3rd gen 3sgte swaps, particularly ST205 motors have their A/C working.
I'm looking into doing a ST205 3sgte swap into a different Toyota - not any gen Celica nor my Camry, something completely different.

In order to be able to pull this swap off the A/C would have to work properly. I'm just too old to deal with no A/C in Tx anymore.
I would send off harnesses to the Doc but I feel there is more involved than just the wiring in the engine looms, but not sure what exaclty.
Any insight from those with working A/C would be greatly appreciated - thanks smile.gif

You're probably gonna have to reveal your secret swap vehicle in order to really be able to get help with this...

...so post pics!

i don't have the vehicle yet - it's a more futuristic thing, at least a year away unless a super deal falls in my lap.

thanks for the response batman. it's not plug n play with ST205 into ST185 so i was unsure.
the vehicle i'm considering is closer to a ST185 in some respects (sharing some parts) but may be close enough to an ST205 that it may not be a huge issue.

this is only AC folks, im sure you can have some lines made up to fit. the compressonr will be on the engine, you just need to have lines made up to the firewall and condenser.

Awesome. I've been concerned about that for my swap, and I literally started looking and found the answer in the within 15 seconds.

oddly enough, when install my 93 sard ecu (rewired harness) AC stops working. i wonder if its a side effect of a rom tuned ecu or if its a problem with the 93 ecu in general.
if i put the 90 ecu back in, it works perfectly.

My 93 engine's A/C had some problem that stumped it's previous owners - I just yanked all those "unnecessary systems" when I rebuilt the car thinking to save weight and drag on the engine - I'm kind of wishing I hadn't. It's possible I had the same thing you are experiencing?

I'm kindof doing a ST205 swap, I just have the block and head, I'm adding my own turbo and have a front mount I/C setup, I'm using all of my old 5sfe pullies, sensors and other accessories. The 5s compressor should bolt right in to the block, so you can take the compressor off of your old block and leave the entire cooling system intact during the swap, just bolt the 5sfe compressor onto the 3s block. I don't see it being an issue since the 3s and 5s blocks are nearly identical. But I haven't dropped my engine in yet so I can't tell you for sure, I can just say that the blocks are nearly identical and this should work.

sorry, I reread it, you're swapping out a Gen II for Gen III, I would imagine the old compressor would bolt in fine. Some compressors have an extra RPM increase sensor that bumps up the RPM a hair when the compressor kicks on but thats usually on newer celicas (96 up i think), and I would guess might be on the ST205 compressor. For that reason, I would say ignore what I said above and just keep the new compressor. If you're getting a whole ST205 clip then you can rip off the evaporator, dryer, condensor and lines since you would probably have a leak in the system somewhere anyway with an almost 20 year old car.

That's pretty interesting lagos - never heard of that problem before.
Death, you just have a stock RC motor & ECU so your prob must have been in the wiring somewhere.
Wiring gremlins are a bitch to find & figure out as you know only too well.

I'm just getting too old to deal with the Tx summer heat & I don't really care how much weight it saves at this point - I want cool air!

Thanks for the insights & answers everyone. Doesn't seem to be a major deal even to get it working.
