I got tired waiting for my fabricator to get started on building my pipes for my turbo system, so i spent some pocket change and got the Ebay header. Install was very simple. i did have to loosen the alternator to get the header around that stud, but that was it. took me abot 30 minutes to install.

Before.

During

After

after a quick trip around the block

Now for review....This header was an excellent bang for the buck. Cost was about 110 after shipping. i can feel a huge difference in acceleration. Im on stock exhaust from the header back so the car is still very quiet. In fact, i dont hear much of a change in engine noise. But the Butt dyno says more power is there.

Can you post a link to the same one please, and did the sensor on top just pop in or bolt on perfectly? I think it is surewinproducts.
I am editing I assume the bottom one is already in the exhaust.
Thanks

nice looking header. as you can see, the header are starting to fad to that blueish gold color. header wrap them later on if you want. Im sure the enging bay heat gets pretty hot in there when the radiator fans turn on. I had them without header wrap for a while, but then wrapped mine.

i would suggest posting them on the ebay header thread for the next time wink.gif

Surewinproducts is in La Puente CA I could drive there to pick up but they won't let me. They must overcharge to make money on shipping.
Why give Fedex 40 bucks for nothing if you can pick up.

Just a quick question. Where did you get your gaskets from for it? I went down to lordco today and they said they didnt have any >.>. I was going to go down to toyota or napa tomorrow, but just wondering where you got yours.

I would just repaint the header with high temp paint before installing it or get it ceramic coated.

On my header (same one), there's two bungs in it for both o2 sensors. Doesn't make any sense to me because both are sensing o2 where only one is needed in the header. I can simply re-route the bottom 02 sensor to the cat and put a bung in it right? My cat is a hi flow aftermarket and currently has no bung in it for a sensor.

the cat is on the factory header. one sensor before and one after. you are talking about the CAT in the downpipe. there are no sensors back there

Both upper and lower 02 sensors are in the bottom of the header. I need to relocate the bottom 02 back to my cat (new bung) and cap off where I took it out of the header...right?

IF YOU GET THIS Header, you need to port match the flange to the tubes. You will get way better flow with about 15 minutes of grinder action. I got mine for $75 shipped, rock on.

Which one is the better header, the one by racedesign is selling or surewin products? They look exactly the same could be the same but which one is the bolt-on one with no mods?

the surewinproducts previously only had 1 hole, the newer version which has been out for a while now has 2 holes for the 2 sensors.
all st204s have these 2 sensors, it doesn't matter if it is from california or not.
the racedesignimport only has 1 hole, so it will need to be modified.

Well that just sucks. I never saw one that said 2. guess i shoulda asked her before i bought the Speed Daddy Ones.

you said racedesignimport only has one, but mine are speed daddys.. i asked the guy directly if there are 2 holes, and he said yes. are we talking bout the same one?

^ I just checked ebay, Speed Daddy had a '97-'99 'racing' 4-2-1 header for $85 and a regular 94-99 header for $55. Racedesign also had one, but I saw no Surewin product.

The OBX header you will not be able to get from what I've gathered from the company.

When I ordered mine they refunded my money immediately and when I called and asked what was up they told me that the product was on back-order for months and suggested I look elsewhere.

I personally think they just stopped making them because I couldn't even get a clear answer as to when they were going to be available.

^^^Thanks, real good to know.

Do you guys think it would be worth the $200 to ceramic coat the surewinproducts header?
I know it would look good forever and there would be a lot less heat in the engine bay.

anyone have vids of their installed ebay header, I'm hesistant of getting it if it sounds ricey. I'd rather custom a 3sge header in.

what have you guys done for the downpipe since that is not available?

or look for 3sfe headers, that should also be an exact match. Can anyone vouch for it, I mean the only thing different between the two are the slight internal differences, so externally they should be the same.

I've also done research and it appears headers from the 5th gen 5sfe can fit, even ebay's listing says 90-97. I think the 5gc header can fit almost for sure but noone has tried it yet.

not as long as my engine is running, but i thought about turbo though. but I am holding that thought because of getting another toyota that I will build for straight performance.

I didn't convert to manual transmission until my auto trans gave me probs. I did fix the auto trans problem, but I went ahead and converted still. So who knows, I don't think I would want to do a swap and let this car sit for a long time, because of the time I have. As you can see in my profile, I have spent sh*tloads of money to get a very detailed, accessorized, mint celica. My car is full restored inside and out. I don't wanna ruin what it is now. I would swap though if it was stock barebone

Well, just got this thing on. Kind of upset though (not at the header), turns out when I got my new "used" down pipe the new hardware that I supplied the shop (gasket, nuts, studs, etc) never got used. Enough about that though. So removing the stock manifold was fun, every nut came off save for one, which took the whole stud with it. But by looking at the stud (totally stripped) I think that was shoddy work done before I got the car.
As far as the header (surewin) it went on with no problems, everything lined up great, but a little off by the downpipe. Throttle response is felt, but as far as any real kind of gain, cant say without some numbers to compare. It does sound better though! I'll take some pics later when its not raining.
And one more thing, I couldnt salvage my downstream O2 sensor, so I left it unplugged, but have yet to throw any CEL's. I thought for sure that I woulda thrown one by now....but I'll romp on it and see what happens.

Ok, the pics......

Looks good Spider. Reminds me that I need an intake...and a header...and a less restrictive exhaust system...and a manual swap. Then I'll be happy.

Well, I could say I want an S54 and 3S-GTE...but that's not happening. I wish I could let go of this car and get a manual ST or maybe GT, but I can't. She's my baby. smile.gif

So yes, I want a manual swap and better exhaust flow. I wouldn't mind a turbo either. wink.gif

ha ha i know how you feel, my parents offered to buy me an '10 scion tc, but it would be bone stock and i would be able to make no mods at all on it, so i stuck with the celi, i like having a car that is rare and that i know i have and will do all of the mods on it, but seriously get an intake, they give it alot better sound, and i love my manual, thats the main reason i got the car biggrin.gif

There is soooo much I wish i could do the the Celi (and a manual swap is one of them), but being my primary DD I kinda cant afford any downtime.

I got mine installed today. Was a pain in the a$$ to get the bolts off the exhaust manifold. I did feel a little more power from the header. Mine was $80 shipped.

I really had little to no problem getting the bolts off...just soak them in PB Blaster and take a break (or get things ready to start). Did have to totally loosen the alternator though, but that's what, a two min thing?

headers makes your 3rd gear stretch, better top end. but after the headers I did get an EGR CEL code. Must be dealing with the way the whole headers thing works with the engine now. More carbon?

Havent thrown a cel yet. I couldnt get the second o2 sensor from the exhaust manifold out. I just plugged in the first one. Gotta get the second one out of the manifold one of these days.

i never installed the second factory O2 sensor in mine. what you see in the picture is actually a wodeband O2 sensor. i never got a CEL.

as for the EGR coding. check the vacume lines on the EGR. one of mine kept blowing off, i had to zip tie it on.

Still running with upstream O2 sensor only...still no CEL. I got the downstream one in a box, but still see no need to install till I pop codes.

You wont throw a code for the downstream O2 (Post cat.) because its used for checking emissions not controlling, their for it doesn't effect your air to fuel. Which means no light.

Good to know...how exactly is the down stream sensor used for checking emissions?

It reads the gases moving threw the exhaust after the cat. and see what gases are leaving the tail pipe ie hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, exe. and then stores that info in the ECU, and for people who know what Im talking about, it is also used for short and long term fuel trims.

It depends on the state regulations(not familiar with cali), also many of our cars come with 2 cat.s (1 header and 1 after the down pipe) and if you have the 2 cat system then yes you will pass.

P.S. I thought cali was a no mod. state?

So that pretty much applies for OBDII then. I got OBDI and dont see any way of anyone pulling info off my ECU.

you will never pass smog in CA with this header. its not CARB legal, but its a 30 minute job, just switch back when you need to.
