I've wanted to try the $50 paint job for the longest time. Since my husband and I are saving for a house, I didn't want to spend too much money fixing my crappy winter beater. ...and so, I finally got a chance to try the $50 paint job a few weeks ago.

I used Rustoleum paint. No primer. No clear. Just paint. Sprayed on. No rolling. All work done by me.

Not much shine to the paint but for the money spent, I'm not complaining. The paint needs more buffing for a better shine. I'm just too damn lazy to do that right now. Overall, it's not too bad for a crazy cheap/ghetto paint job. However, I would NEVER do that to any of my celicas. My celicas deserve much better than that.

I've been driving the corolla to work everyday and so far, the paint looks pretty durable. No chips anywhere.

What do you guys think? Any personal experiences with this paint?

Yeah, all I can say is wow. That's pretty amazing. It looks really nice... Is there some bad orange peel, or drips, or anything? How many coats did you put down? How did you prep the car?

dang, where were you when I painted my RH fender.......... LOL Mine looks like $#!T

Good job, your hubby is lucky to have a girl like you. I would be lucky if I can find a girl who can tell me what kind of car they drive, let alone shut the hell up with their long stories of nothing. Anyways, that's my problem, good work though.

Man, I know pictures can't capture everything perfectly, but that looks REALLY good. I would never have guess that was only $50. So uh... You up for spraying my car in silver? tongue.gif

It took me 3 days to finish painting the car because I had to wetsand in between coats. I'm very picky. I laid down the paint in thin layers because unlike real car paint, this paint drips easily. I did so many coats that I lost count... ..so I'd say 10+..

As far as prep goes, the only thing I did was sand the car down and mask. No need to waste money on primer smile.gif I also pulled out a few dings and dents before paint.

SwissFerdi - Thanks. $50 sure beats spending $500 for paint!

Ruroniarc - Thank you. No drips or anything... just not enough shine biggrin.gif

Random_Stranger - Thanks. My hubby thinks the paint job on my corolla is "cute" ..WTF is that suppose to mean?!?! Anyway, I'm sure you'll find your girl. She'll come around before you know it.

2bcelica - Thank you!

richee3 - Anything can look good with the right amount of effort smile.gif

Bitter - I like my wheel covers. ..and besides, I think white wheels look like cheap plastic on a car. Also, white + white = too much white for me.

soulshadow - The back lights and Toyota emblem were the only things I took off. I masked everything else.

Nice job, that came out very well! Looks alot better than it did before, and from the pictures it looks better than some paint jobs that people pay $200 for.

People doubt what you can do with some rattle-cans. I just painted my Yamaha and while it's not perfect and needs some polishing, it only cost me $10 for everything.

very nice. ive been contemplating doing this to my car for a while. How many cans of paint did you go though? Also are you thinking of spraying on a layer of clear coat for protection? because something tells me that in a year from now it may start coming off if you dont protect it.
