25th anniversary edition was only the 1.8l ST's. So if yours is a 2.2l it isn't a true 25th anniversary edition.

Congratulations man, I wish you the best of luck with it. Mine is also my first.

Just keep it clean, don't rice it out, and when you see what your high school friends do with their car...just generally try not to copy it. If you take care of the engine, then you'll have a great car for a long time, and you already have a clean-looking and fresh platform to start modding from.

Good luck.

What would you recommend doing to it?

I want to get a body kit, but I lack something very important... Money.

I also was going to get a chip to increase the horsepower a tad, but I read that Celicas can't be chipped because of the override or whatever...

...So yeah. Lmao.

I'd recommend you just do small, tasteful things. For example, grab yourself some dental floss and some Goo Gone and take off those badges. If you want, you can rattle can your rims black for around 50.

As far as body kits go, just stay tasteful with it...but then again, if it's what you want, then go for it.

I think you shouldn't even bother modding it. Just enjoy the car man. If anything just do new headers with 2 1/4 piping into an Apexi or Magnaflow muffler and call it a day. Some splitters or coilovers would be sweet if funds are available, but that is as far as I would take it. Save some money and just stay on top of maintenance. That way when you get some real money then contemplate a 3sgte swap.

SS-III lip kit looks great. Most people on here tend to steer clear of big body kits. Personally I feel it ruins the smooth lines.

For performance- I would suggest finding a muffler that you like and take it to a nearby exhaust shop and have them build you a catback.

If you want a big power gain you'll need to swap it (3S-GTE) or turbo your 5S-FE. All of which has been well documented on this site. Be sure to check out the parts database here and find things that you like.

How much (approx) would turboing my car cost?

And would it still be street legal?

And where can I find the SS-III lip kit? Lol. :]

Don't know how much it costs, as I've never owned a GT (3 ST's).

SS-III lip kits can be found in the buying/selling forum from time to time. Look up "ST202" on eBay and you'll find a bunch of goodies.

Are all of the logos on the car adhesive? Even the Toyota emblem?

I might head down to Kragen tomorrow and get some adhesive remover and some black spraypaint for the rims.

The "TOYOTA", "CELICA", and "GT" emblems are stuck on, and can be removed by using a blow dryer to heat them up for a couple minutes and then running some fishing line or dental floss behind them. After doing this a few times they'll pop off. Heat up the leftover adhiesive and rub it off, or wipe down with some Goo Gone. The large Toyota logo that is center on the hatch lid and front bumper cannot be removed, as they will leave two holes from where they were mounted. Be aware that the paint behind them will be better than the paint on the car, so you'll want to wax it as well, or else you'll still see where the emblems were.

For painting your wheels, buy some sand paper and lightly go over the wheels (take the wheels off of the car). Then after they have been cleaned well and sanded you can spray on a couple coats of primer. Once it dries you can spray them black by spraying several light coats, letting them dry fully between each coat. Pick up some note cards as well and line the rim with them so you don't get overspray on your tires.

Thanks! Helped alot :]

I think I'm just going to do the emblems today. I'll do the rims when the weather gets a little better.

Welcome to the 6gC family...and the GT brotherhood. wink.gif

Like the other guys said, stay on top of your maintenance and keep her looking good. Other mods you might want to look into would be JDM tails (the Kouki ST202/ST205 tails on eBay) and maybe replacing the power antenna with a smaller S2000-esque one.

Either way, congrats on the car.

Update:
(apologies for the car being so dirty)
I took off the emblems! :]

Haven't waxed it yet. I'm going to do a complete wash and wax of the car this weekend.

And I'm also thinking about taking off the Toyota emblem and patching the holes. What's the easier way to take them off? (Front and back)

Thanks,
John

I'd say leave the back on, it's clean. The front is nice when it's taken off on a black car (just look at 808celica), but I wouldn't recommend either unless you have immediate access to body filler and paint.

The glare on the wing in the first picture looks like smudge; I think that's what Swiss was referring to.

The de-badged car looks nice...can't wait to see the wash'n'wax shots.

Should I paint my rims black or white?

I don't have enough for new ones, and I'm getting bored of the look.

Any color choices are welcome. I was also looking at a bronze color. That might look nice with the black.

You guys choose. You know Celicas better than I.

Do NOT paint your stockers white.

Gunmetal would be good, a dark bronze as well would look good.

I found my car's twin! Sweet action!!!

I personally wouldn't paint the stock wheels at all. They suit the car well. It's worth it to save up and buy a different set rather than painting the stock rims. You can tell that they are factory wheels that have been painted. Instead of spending your money on making an already sexy car look better, spend it on performance. Get one of the intakes from Ebay. Perked my car up a bit. Not a LOT, but it made a difference, and it was only like $30.

Bronze would look good, but I'm not sure it would be likeable in the long run...you know, you might get tired of it?

I say go for something in the range of gray to black.

Nice ride kid, wish I had a GT model. Looks good as is, a drop an a lip kit and your set on looks, well I would consider that perfect for me.

And about the paint, I say go with the bronze. It really looks nice on black and if you get tired of it, there's always the can of paint remover so wouldn't be hard for you to repaint them another color.

I know! It got stolen out of my backpack at lunch. They didn't touch the four $20 bills sitting in the front compartment, though. Haha.

I went out and got myself a decent (better than before) camera. The pictures in the day time are gorgeous, pictures at night are garbage.

I'm gonna go on a photoshoot tomorrow with my car. smile.gif

^^Photo quality. The night time picture quality is definitely better than my old camera, but not great.

Turn off the flash, if that is possible. Your night shots will be exponentially better, so long as you can hold the camera still enough for a clear shot.

Yeah, I did. I can't hold a camera still to save my life. Those 2 night pictures were selected from the 86 I took. Most of them were so blurry it was insane, and the other ones the color was messed up. Only the middle picture has flash. That's the only way I could make it look half decent.

I wonder how this camera will do in the rain... I love rainy day picture shots. I don't know why.

Haha, 86 pics sounds like my kind of fascination- I have a few hundred pics in my photobucket.

It was pretty much like;

*Click* *Reviews picture* "CRAP! BLURRY." *Click* *Reviews picture* "CRAP! BLURRY." *Click* *Reviews picture* "CRAP! BLURRY." 86 times... All alone in the empty road in the middle of the night.

...Yeah. The flash finally made it a bit more clear, and even though it looked like complete garbage, I was psyched that it wasn't blurry. Haha.

I went to some reviews, and apparently I've been doing it all wrong.

I gotta start learning about iso and shutter speed and all that jazz. Because now that mine's adjustable, I don't have an excuse for crappy-looking pictures. frown.gif

What camera do you have now? I highly recommend you invest in a tripod. Then there won't be blurry photos anymore!

Update 8/23:

-Washed inside and out (lmfao, finally!)
-Removed front Toyota emblem
-Removed front License plate
-Added alarm system
-Ordered JDM tail lights, they will be here friday (keep your fingers crossed)
-A pleasant scratch on the back bumper from some idiot hitting me in the parking lot. Not noticeable at a distance of more than like 2 feet, but it's there. Hit and run. **** Civics.

Interior (Doors are cleaner than they look in this picture lmfao.)

Butt-Shot

Removed the license plate & Toyota emblem!

The holes... Repairing asap. School is limiting my time.

Thanks for looking.

It's starting to feel a lot like Christmas... biggrin.gif

I'm getting a good deal from a buddy of mine that works at Les Shwab.

I'll get the exact wheel names and pictures and stuff and put it on here in a bit.

They're 17" with black on the wheel and a chrome trim around the outside.

I get that and new tires for $700 installed. Which is definitely not bad.

And I plan to sell the stockies. They're in great condition for a car so old, and spraypainting them ruins the value.

Congrats! JDM tails are probably, in my opinion, the best exterior mod you can do to the car for the money. The car itself looks great, but those tails are very obvious early 90's, and the JDM tails bring the car into this century. Plus, they are a whole lot cheaper than splitters of JDM headlights or anything else, so in my opinion, the best mod for the money. I'm glad you decided to not paint your stockers- it's always easy to tell when somebody took factory wheels and painted them to try to pass them off as something else. I like the stock wheels just fine on our cars, just so long as they aren't painted. But your car is very clean, and you seem to have a good head on your shoulders, so keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback, guys :]

The pictures didn't exactly turn out as I had planned (They're horrid, actually) but in any case, here they are;

I like the look of my JDM tails, though! biggrin.gif

Monday I'm getting a new radiator and setting up an appointment for a new clutch.

And also, I'm going to buy those rims that are on the Red Golf GTI. He is going to sell the wheels and tires to me for $600.

You might notice some of the pictures have a sticker that says "Just 4 Fun, Nothing Personal." That's a car group/club that I've been hanging out with recently. It's not a club where you pay to be a member each month or something, but it's more like a family of a few people that spend more money and time on their cars than they do their relationships. I've been hanging around with them the last few weeks, and yesterday they invited me in and I got my stickers :]. I know that doesn't seem like much (a sticker) but it's a big accomplishment to me.

Thanks for the feedback again guys. Thank you :]

Upcoming list of things to buy:
Those wheels (18")
Headers
Exhaust
Strut bars front and rear
Lower an inch
Cold air intake

smile.gif

As always, suggestions are always welcome and appreciated.

EDIT:
Here's a link to the photos I currently have of the night if anyone is interested.

Yeah, I agree, but I've been having doubts about how they'll look on my car. They are 18", and it will raise my car up about a half inch. He still has to save up for new rims before he sells them to me, so I have time to lay out my options.

How do you guys think they'd look?

So then it's a mod by the previous owner? I'm pretty sure there is no factory strut bar, but I don't own a GT either, so.

The rims would look good in general, but I think they might be a bit big. The 6GC is a relatively small car, and I wouldn't personally go over 17". Better ride as well.

Oh haha. The guy I bought it from was an old grandpa who drove it to and from the grocery store.. So I don't think he put it on. I'm pretty sure GT models have it stock, can anyone confirm?

And I agree. I wouldn't go bigger than 17" either, but the deal I'd be getting for these rims is unbelievable.

Maybe I'll just go buy some new tires and leave the stockies on there. Who knows. wink.gif

If you really want different rims and have the cash, I'd say no to your friend's rims and look for some 17's instead.

x2 on the strut bar. I think it might have even been offered after that as part of the sport package that had stiffer suspension.

By the way, that's not a cold air intake. That's a short ram intake. It's kinda like a hot air intake, since it's sucking heat right off of your motor. It'll pep the car up a bit though.

I've got basically the same intake on my car. I guess it's actually literally the same intake. My air filter is blue though. It doesn't add any power, but it peps the car up just enough to notice, and sounds better than Civics and their fart pipes. I'm jealous of your strut bar, by the way. Having a '98, I have to do without frown.gif

Cool man. I know how it is. Computers are a crazy rapid market, the next gen parts are just around the corner. Your car reminds me of mine, rapidly modding being a first car and all. Its exciting. Ive toned down my car modding alot, back to my roots with my computer.

I see you got the same SRI I have on mine. I plan on removing the filter, and putting a Weapon R 3' Dragon filter on it. With the heatshield, ran to the fender entrance to pull cold air from there.

Telepopmusik - Breathe

And thanks :]

Any feedback on the cold cathodes? My friend who is completely anti-rice hates them, but I don't think they look ricey at all. I like them a lot :]

I had some problems with installing them, though haha. I got them all wired up, cut a hole in the inside of the dash for the switch, then I glued the switch on... And the switch got glued to the "Off" position >.< so I had to go get another switch and do it all over again. But I think it looks great for a grand total of $13.50 :]

The lights aren't my taste, but they're nicely done. Better than underbody neon for sure.

You into trance BTW?

When are you going there? I was there for the last two days for a vw show.

New clutch today... Ran me about $750 for labor and everything.

Feels SO much better. My old clutch failed every test they had.

Put on the header today, with difficulties. That last bolt just didn't want to come off...

^Jerry just loveees working on Toyotas :]

^That's meee! biggrin.gif

^Almost done, few more bolts (Miguel in the pic)

^After the drive home, GOLDEN! biggrin.gif

I can DEFINITELY feel the difference in acceleration. This was the biggest horsepower gain for the least amount of money that I can think of.

Woo! biggrin.gif

Dont' forget to wrap that header. How's it treating you though? I've always kinda been tempted to get one, but never wanted to cough up the cash.

I can DEFINITELY feel the difference when I put my foot down. Worth the money. When I was pulling out from a stoplight today, I gave it about 3/4 throttle (I drive aggressive... biggrin.gif ) and it seemed like I flooring it before. Like 3/4 now is full throttle before... Idk, hard to explain haha, but you can feel the difference.

How's it sound? I've been told it's like the intake, how you don't really hear it unless you are in the throttle.

Honestly I didn't hear much of a sound difference at all. I have the stock exhaust, that may be why. The only sound difference I hear is that it sounds like the intake is taking in more air.. Like before I could make my car sound completely stock by just easing on the throttle, but now you can hear the intake even when just barely pressing the gas.

Maybe my imagination though, I dunno.

Was the gasket any good? I heard ebay gaskets are ****ty and leak. And would be better off getting a toyota gasket than having to go in the touble to change it the 2nd time round when it leaks. Anyways i like coming to this thread so see pretty pics of mods and parts. Any clues on whats next?
