My car also does this, with a slight blue tinge (which I know to mean that it's burning oil... I think)

Just a small, sparse puff of blue-white smoke as it starts and exhaust is clean afterwards. Not just the first start of the day, however, every time the car is started cold.

I've kept it out of mind, car runs fine. I personally wouldn't worry about it.

solid, I think your problem is valve seals. I had the exact same problem and had them replaced and no more blue smoke at start up. It's about $300 from where I live.

If it goes away after the car warms up it is probably just moisture that accumulates in the exhaust that is burned off after the car warms up.

Constant white smoke would be that coolant is getting into the combustion chanber - which would point to a head gasket. Check your coolant overflow. Does it look normal? Or does it have oil in it?

This is about the 18,000 thread on this...

My GT does that too- seems to be a thing with the 5S. But my car runs great. It's got issues, but the motor is fine, especially considering it has 160,000 miles. What I've found about my car smoking is that it only does it after a few weeks of me being lazy and not checking the oil- it does it when I'm a quart low. I don't think that's related at all, it just always inspires me to check my oil tongue.gif I've been told countless times that it's just the valve seals, no big deal. Just keep an eye on your oil levels and forget about the smoke.

I had my head rebuilt a while back on a block with 180K on it. The block passed kind of with weird readings for both a wet and dry compression test at first. After everything was cleaned up it passed with awesome numbers and the mechs told me it was in very good condition depending on the readings. Anyway, after the head was done and back on, the blue smoke at start up totally gone. No smoke anymore whatsoever and I just went my first 3,000 miles after the rebuild and the oil is exactly where it was right after the oil change. Our blocks are awesome my car runs mint. Valve seal job is pretty inexpensive and it's nice not to have to keep up with the oil level.

I did also have a problem with the distributor o-ring seal leaking oil before the rebuild. Maybe check that too for the hell of it. Mech said it's common among celicas.
