I recently found myself to be bored, so I reinstalled the original Max Payne because I liked it so much a few years ago.

It's still a great game. Graphics are pretty good, but the gameplay itself is still awesome- shootdodging a baddie just does not get old.

So, does anyone else dig up old stuff, and if so, what are you playing? I hope I'm not the only one.

And I'd consider an old game to be something like five years old, considering how quickly the graphics are evolving.

Maybe once a year some friends and I try to make it a point to play some classics like Age of Empires, but that's definitely more than 5 years old. laugh.gif

No one ever likes the old Mario Karts, I find i'm the only one. Props to you, sir. I grew up on MK64, but the original had a bit of playing from me too (i was only 5-7 though).

I go through a large backcatalog of SNES games every so often.

Doom is an AWESOME game. I still play online occasionally, but there's no legitimate servers (all of them have stupid mods that bastardize the deathmatch).

Anyone play Starcraft? Best RTS, ever.

I play MK64 now because my brother doesn't have his old SNES anymore, but I'd love to hit up some Super Mario Kart or Super Mario Bros.

Hey guys im sure some of you have owned the playstation, playstation 2 and playstation 3. I currently have a 2nd gen ps3 80 gigabytes but it will not play ps1 or ps2 games mad.gif

I used to be into Gran Turismo, had Gran Turismo 1, GT2 and GT3 and i must say that game was so addicting.

Is there an SS-III celica on Gran Turismo 2 and 3. I just want to start tuning the hell out of the celica and make it go fast? But i cant play ps1 or ps2 games on my ps3!!!

The 20 and the 60 had full backwards compatibility, as it had the same physical hardware the PS2 had integrated, however the newer PS3 models (40, 80, etc) only have software emulation.

no way! ps1 ddrs are the best! i have the original, best hits, 2nd remix, 3rd mix, 4th mix, 4th extra, 5th mix, and disney ddr. gameplay is just like the arcade. all the port overs that they have now are lame and some don't even include the original songs. and the ones that do, the steps are way different. i have to side with the classics on this one too. i love modchips tongue.gif

The song selection is infinite in Stepmania. I have everything you have, and more on my computer smile.gif

The problems I had with the DDRs on the PSX was the engine. I had Konamix back in the day (that was a great mix, had a ton of good songs) and after I moved to stepmania/PS2 versions of DDR, I couldn't go back. It was harder to read the arrows just because the video was a tad choppy.

Rhythm and Police is probably my favorite song. I've essentially muscle-memorized the heavy stepchart from playing it so much (most of the time I can AA it biggrin.gif ).

My friend's got an A on Max300. Such craziness, I can just barely pass it on a good good day.

I will agree with you on the song selections of newer DDRs, the whole library of crappy American pop songs are pretty annoying. The original Konami songs are where it's at smile.gif

I started playing Chrono Cross for the PSX about a month back. Got about half way through then realized I fcked up sometime earlier through the game.

Other than that, been playing Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on the PS2 and picked up an N64 again to play Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye, and Perfect Dark. Probably gonna start on Star Ocean: The Second Story again in a couple of weeks.

Fo sho. It just came out on Xbox Live but I haven't given it a whirl yet. Been mostly playing it on PS2 and I'm trying to pick up the Dreamcast that has the game included locally.

It's not quite 'old' yet, but I have to say that Half-Life 2 is the best game I've ever played...it's ridiculous. I almost don't want to finish it.

Hey which Baldur's Gate was it where there was a dude that was like "THe PRIEST! Someone killed THE PRIEST!". It made me laugh. Is it part 2 that is Shadow's of Amn? I dunno. I just know I used to play Dungeons and Dragons in high school, AND magic the gathering! WHAT?! I had the best elf deck ever! But it was a type 1 deck. Destroyed any infinite deck, from squirrels, to slivers.

I used to play Magic all the time. We finally found a cheap way to play any deck we wanted. We would just print out the cards from online and build our decks by cutting them out and putting them in card protectors. I made the best fast effects deck ever for 1 on 1. I think it was game over in less than 5 turns

Ah yeah, we called out a lot of people who did that. LOL It just wasn't fair, so if they used any proxies, they had to show us they had the cards. We knew a shop owner who would hold all nighters after hours. We would order pizza and stuff and play in the store. On Fridays, I worked at a call center, so after work about 10pm, I would play all night and go home, take a shower, and head straight to work that Saturday at 5am-12pm for over time. They made all the newbies work that messed up schedule.

well, we just played with a small group of broke college kids that didn't want to spend +$70 for a deck. it was a great way to put them together and try out new ideas and combos. plus, if its common knowledge that everyone is free to print off their own proxies, it isn't hurting any player (sure, the card shop probably doesnt like the idea). I've actually still got the deck saved to a word document.

It's not quite 'old' yet, but I have to say that Half-Life 2 is the best game I've ever played...it's ridiculous. I almost don't want to finish it.

You still have Episode 1 and Episode 2. Such awesome games. Also, get Portal if you haven't already. It's a marvelous game, just far too short.

Old school? Anyone ever play the original two Metal Gear games? I'm not talking about the NES bastardizations (MG2: Snake's Revenge on the NES wasn't even a real MG game, though Kojima still liked it). I mean the MSX versions. Even for their age, they are awesome games. Real difficult and intricate, especially for their time.

But aren't Episodes 1 and 2 pretty short? I'm excited to get into the story...the gameplay is so deep.

They are short, I'll give them that. But the storyline is far too intricate to not want to play them... they are also just as fun as HL2.

The first was in a league of its own, though. HL2 was good, but HL was just crazy on the first play through. I felt like I was glitching some parts of the game, or skipping around/advancing the wrong way, the puzzles were just so obscure and abstract many times that it feels like you're doing the wrong thing. Its dated graphics make it slightly less enjoyable now... Waiting for "Black Mesa Source" to be finished. It's a third-party conversion of the original Half-Life to the Source engine with vastly updated graphics, models, textures and levels. It looks gorgeous.

I'm also eagerly awaiting Episode 3 and Portal 2. Shame that the "episode" trilogy is essentially HL3. Still, when everything's out, I will probably want to tank through all of the games in a row. Preferably one sitting biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I have to say that I like HL2 a lot more than the original...the original was awesome, but looking back it felt a little repetitive...I mean, most of it took place in the corridors and hallways of Black Mesa, but HL2 is much more varied in setting. I'll definitely play the Episodes though, I want every single second of the story.

I think I'm getting close to completing HL2, I just finished Entanglement.

Well, I just had my HDD replaced, which means I lost my "free" copy of HL2. So I bought The Orange Box, figured it's worth it. Downside is that I now need to start the game all over again, and I was almost finished.

I've been digging out some of my old games, even got my old computer out for some of the DOS based stuff that Windows 7 doesn't like. Mostly some Elderscrolls 3: Morrowind, old Need for Speed games, and Baldur's Gate.

I'm surprised this thread grew so quickly, nice job guys. thumbsup.gif

For anyone looking for a good series to play, I'd recommend Max Payne. Great games.

Also, a newer game I highly recommend is Portal. Fairly short, but very entertaining.

Just re-installed Starcraft after a 4 year absence. Will take about a week to shake off the rust and re-learn the hot key's

But considering it was my game of choice for about 7 years logging 40-50 hours a week on average...

I think an old pro can get back into it.

speaking of old games.
Monopoly is doing a world-wide game starting pretty much right now, but the servers are getting destroyed with traffic.

It should be interesting to see how it all works.
