For those who haven't seen it, I've got a progress thread going in the Multimedia section and now that I've got the motor in, I've got a no-start situation.

I picked up a rebuilt 5s from celicatech that was out of a 93 convertible. I pulled my old motor and swapped over all the sensors (I did miss the sensor by the crank pulley) and accessories but now that I'm trying to start the car, I'm not getting any power when I turn the key to the 'on' position.

The courtesy lights work as does the airbag light, but those are the only dummy lights that come on when the key is turned. I've gone over all of the fuses and there are none that are blown. I'm only showing one wire that has power at the ecu and the other 2-3 that should when the key is turned are coming up as grounded. I'm at a loss as to what the issue could be.

Also, will I be able to run the motor without that sensor by the crank pulley? I really need to get this car running......

Thanks!

there's a problem with ur harness, either a cut that is shorting the entire system or a corroded plug

do you get power at the pins with the ecm unplugged? how about plugged in? could be a damaged computer or a relay not kicking over to feed power

Okay. Thanks to an idea that I read about in one of the last boosted tangerine posts, I rechecked my fusebox connections and found that my main harness wasn't completely locked down(so much for letting friends help....) So now the motor will turn over, but it won't start. I'm thinking that its b/c of the sensor that's by the crank on my old motor that I failed to transfer to the new motor. (crank angle sensor?) There doesn't seem to be a port on the new motor for the sensor to plug into. It looks like it goes directly into the block, but again, there is no way to mount this on the new motor....

Is there a way of eliminating the need for the ECU to read from this sensor? I've got a buddy with a 94gt and he doesn't have one. Am I going to have to swap in a 94-95 ECU to get this to work?

Manny? Tweak? Anyone?

EDIT: This pic was taken from another thread and it shows the 5s without this sensor... (Circled in yellow)

you will need the loom and ecu that was with the new engine, your old ecu won't work if its a different engine.

I took the hard road and decided to pull 3 of the motor mounts and take off the front cover and oil pump to reuse the front cover that has the port for the crank angle sensor. If I can coordinate my friends resources, I may have it done tomorrow. *crosses fingers*

The sensor just bolts to the front cover on the motor. I have to swap timing pulleys because the one from the new motor doesnt have the pickups that the old one did. I'll try to take some pics today to better explain what I mean.

thats the correct way to do it. swapping the computer is really no easier since you either need to swap the whole wiring harness with it or repin and rewire your harness, both are a big headache. not to mention it will never pass emissions with the older computer if it needs to.
