to put it simply, the engine shakes a fair bit during idle, but stops in gear.

Does the check engine light come on at anytime when its acting up?

Is the idle rpm very low(<500) when its "shaking" ?

You could try shorting each spark plug wire to ground and seeing if one of the cylinders causes little or no change when shorted. Be careful not to run it for long with the wires disconnected if you choose that route(I recommend grounding them), and watch that high voltage so you don't get shocked.

It could be a fuel injector or some other electronic item. Works fine when uniformly cold or hot, but one of the components in it shrinks faster while cooling than others and causes an intermittent open circuit.

Might also be worth checking your fuel pressure when its idling rough, if you had an emission gas analyzer you could check for a lean or rich misfire very easily. There are a few things that could cause this actually.

Check your oil level? lol

Edit/I had some engine shaking recently too, but it was all around. Just needed 3/4 qt. of oil though.

I have the same problem. The engine runs fine, but after riding it for a while at a high rpm or when it gets really warm the vibration gets rough when it goes back to idle. I think my idle it a lil low. Does anyone know how to adjust the idle on a 7a...

I believe its adjusted by the cable under the hood. Sappose you just turn the screw a few times til you find where you want it.

its strictly an idle issue.... it has nothing to do with running the car at hi rpm or anyhing like that

i can start it, it will shake while it idles around 700-800 rpm, i can rev it up to 3000+ and let it go back down, once it gets back to its normal idle it shakes again. Idle speed is the same as its been for the past 6 months so turning up the idle will not effect anything if its been running this long just fine.

engine mounts?
bad fuel?
electrical?

I was answering that question. I guess I need to quote.

Or just not post.
